i used to go to an indian curry place. wafting waves of curry would float from the roof and walls. if you ordered a cheese sandwich on white bread, it would taste like curry. used to like some heat, but some would blow the top of my head off.

Love all kinds of curry. I’ve always craved spicy food (“…but is it spicy?” 🙄) and I’m good with Hot, but I cannot handle “Indian Hot” when a restaurant offers that.

I have plenty of Indian friends — some recent immigrants, some first-gen, and some number of them cannot handle real Indian Hot. That level is no joke.

Salt, fat, sugar & portions are 4 horsemen of diet.

Cut the proportions & portions, pounds come off. Lost 15 in last 6 months and not dramatic about tweaks. Not a day of exercise either. I'm injured and high activity is limited, when I go there, input/output of energy needs to stay matched. But American diet is for the birds. Diet programs many times are also. I started that fruits & veggies in a pill thing too. Can recommend it and it's only 3rd week.

I wanted to wish a Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians @scomac2002 and @Soloman1

In true Canadian fashion, I will celebrate in a more relaxed way than what most American folks do. My day will start off with a fun golf tournament which is a modified version of the Tombstone events. All participants have a small Canadian flag with their name on it and once they reach their limit based on their handicap, plant their flag. Typically, the 17th and 18th holes will be covered in flags. I of course will be dressed in red and white and will have my special Canada headcovers in use.

The weather here is going to be fantastic and I may take in a local fireworks display this evening.

I actually got shut down 2 times in the same week Hauling for Ontario Hydro. Shut down for Canada day so I played golf with my 7 club set I carried on the truck. Unloaded and loaded up a burned up transformer going back to South Boston VA to be rebuilt. Time that happened we got shut down at the border because US Customs was not working commercial loads that day and we could not go in Michigan anyhow. Shut down at the US border and bobtailed over and played some little course up by Windsor on the Canadian side.

My wife hates what she calls fake money grabbing holidays like valentines day. She'll actually get mad if I waste money on some flowers for her. 😅

Mine is exactly the same way having worked at Kroger for 13 years and now working part time at Wal Mart.

I can remember when my MIL was living one year we did gift cards at Christmas with BIL included too. I was like this so stupid all we did was exchange money. Every year it was like what do you want for Christmas? Hell fire I had no Idea because if the wife and I wanted something during the year and we could afford it we got it. I would never expect anyone to buy me anything we could not afford ourselves. After the SNAFU on the gift cards we stopped the "gift giving" all together.

Great referral for business.

But unfortunately too many friends going down with wrist and shoulder injuries and torn Achilles.

Yeah just ask Bernhard Langer on the Achilles playing pickleball. One of the guys in my golf league his wife broke her wrist and Ulna playing pickleball a few weeks ago. At 78 years old that is a serious thing

One thing I have done on my diet is cut out processed meats like Beef Bologna which I love. I have also cut out Italian type sandwiches which I also love. My ankles used to swell up every time I played golf. Since I cut that crap out I have not had any pain or swelling. I was under the impression that the Diuretic in my BP meds plus the fact I drink a lot of water would take care of the salt. Evidently I was wrong and over loaded the little Diuretic. I know I am losing weight. I also cut out all white bread period and eat very little like grain bread. I cut out most rice except on occasion brown rice. And this was extra hard for me I cut out grits and hash browns too. I have dropped almost 20 pounds in 6 weeks and feel great and not starving myself

I’m more of a Chicken Tikka Tandori fan than curry.

But once when living in Mpls we went to a place on Hennepin Ave. We ordered some curry dishes and like idiots not knowing any better specified medium spice when asked.

We managed to get a few bites down before the heat caught up. Couldn’t finish it, even though it was our first time out in weeks on our limited resident budget.  I remember asking who ordered the hot level and was told only the local Indian families (said to me with a laugh).

Edit.  Was typing this and see others have also posted about hot food. So sorry to be redundant.

There was a little Thai spot run by a likely 300 y/o Thai lady at the end of the block from my old Hollywood place. One of those awesome hole-in-the-wall type spots; only could order by phone and cash only.

One day, had a hankering for some Thai Fried Rice and called down to put in an order. Also happened to be on a work call and with divided attention; replied "Yeah sure!" to "You want spicy?"

Picked it up, get home, open it up and just get hit right in the face with HEAT. It was just strewn with little green Thai chilis.

I never answered "Yeah sure!" to "You want spicy?" from her again. (It was painfully delicious though!)

Oh yeah, can relate! Open the box up and that oil vapor hits your eyes all 💥 🥊

Only thing hotter is get the same chili pepper load in some Thai soup and let those babies steep in there for a while. So dang good but that heartburn though. 😱

My mother loved spicy food, basically any hot pepper, we’d sit there staring at her like, “how you eat that?!”

My father hated hot food. Sometimes my mother would mess with him and put something hot on his plate and he would start

yelling at the top of his lungs!

”Ahhh! Ahhhhhhhh!!!”

🤣🤣

🤣 my wife has many Filipino titas and lolas like that. But, Filipino food is not really ever spicy.

I can hear it, that lady hears you “yeah sure!” and she’s all eyebrows raised like “oh, he trippin’, I’ma show this boy now!”

Also, post just made in the “unpopular opinions” thread you might like. 😂

Carolina Reapers are very hot too. Those are what they were using in the one chip challenge. In fact it was reported some people died after doing the challenge. I think the FDA or who ever made them take them off the market. I know my local Circle K had them and they were like $5 for one chip

😂😂😂😂😂😂 Almost pulled back a nub….yep! Got to have the rice cooker. Keeps the rice great overnight then cook up some mean leftovers with a bunch of eggs the next morning. 🙂 Zojirushi is what I have, it’s 20y old and gets HEAVY use.

@Soloman1 is right on, you don’t get the right texture without the wash either, gets rid of all the powdered / crushed rice that makes it way too sticky if you leave it in there. Plus the chemical residue!

I won’t even work with those. The Thai chilis, habaneros, Scotch bonnets all have heat and unique flavor and bring something to the dish. The Reapers are just like tasting bear spray. Guy I used to work with grew them and was always giving them to me, man those bad boys are serious business, too much!

You might enjoy the dirty jobs episode where Mike interviews the guy in South Carolina that invented that reaper. It was pretty  informative and entertaining to me.  Guys a regular Joe , and has turned that business into a money maker extraordinaire. And he hires Ex cons and recovering addicts to work the warehouse / production line.  Cool guy.
