Well, we got 5.87 inches of rain yesterday in our small town, which is actually quite a lot though far less than what was

thought possible. We never got the really heavy downpours typical of thunderstorms; actually we never heard a single

rumble of thunder. It was just a steady medium rain from early yesterday morning til the wee hours this morning.

 

The wind kicked up stronger late last night as the eye passed south of us. All the old growth trees are still standing but

a cypress tree I planted maybe 12 years ago came down and took out  part of the back yard fence so I have some saw

work and fence repair to do today.

 

Compared to our neighbors down south we are in great shape. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in Alabama...... ......and

Pensacola, FL were whacked hard with winds over 90mph and as much as 30 inches of rain plus storm surge.

Pensacola, Fl. got 30 inches of rain in four hours. Basically a summers worth of rain in those four hours. Glad you missed the heavy stuff Rad.

That is still a lot of rain Conrad. Can't believe Pensacola getting that much rain...that is the equivalent of 30 feet of snow.

Joined FB a few months back to start selling stuff on Marketplace.  Sold off some golf implements.  Not incurring the eBay/PayPal fees and not having to ship is nice.  Sold the Mrs'. car last week as she got a new Ford Escape.  I keep my "homepage" presence as minimalist as possible.  I have no friends (ha!).  With all the cyber gymnastics occurring on WRX (and finding this reboot more than annoying), joined several FB golf related groups.  Different cast of characters to digitally interact with.  

Believe it or not my 01 Benz has blue tooth capable and even has a phone built in. On Facebook I am on the Persimmon Golf Society and on regular FB most of the friends are folks I know from different churches I have ran sound at. If you see me on there send a friend request cause I know your first name

They were talking about passing a law here similar to that. Georgia has a law on the books and our folks were having meetings with their folks. But have not heard anything in a year or so. It is against the law to text and drive here but the fine is only $25. Besides Law Enforcement has enough to do without enforcing that

Well it is supposed to hit us from the west this afternoon with some wind and rain. We are under a Tornado watch now. Highly unusual for us because most of our storms come directly off the Atlantic. Now in the winter if a winter storm comes from like Atlanta east we are going to get some white stuff

PGS is one of them.  Also:  Old School Ping Group (only a couple of months old, growing rapidly and the fav at the moment).  Forged Golf Club Appreciation.   Forged Golf Club - BST. PGS - BST.  Golf Club Pickers & Collectors, interesting for us scroungers.  I've noticed some of the usual suspects (only identifiable if I know their real names) in PGS and Forged.  Couple of putter and hickory groups, but haven't joined.  Couple of Michigan related groups also.  Not being a FB'er, didn't realize these "groups" existed until I got a heads up and began poking around.

we now in some states have cameras that are dedicated to catching drivers on the phone, they can tell exactly what you are doing even through tinted windows. It can also be illegal for a passenger to use a hand held device as it is possible the driver may try to look and see what you are doing, eg; playing a game. They are good cash cows, catch hundreds every day and the fines can be as high as $300.

On the camera thing here in the USA and in certain states that kind of enforcement brings on Constitunal law issues. It is a can of worms no wonder the good old USA has more lawyer to people ratio than any where else in the world.

 No constitutional law problems in Australia, the state governments can do almost anything they like, and they do.

Nothing personal friend, but I'm glad I'm not there.  You've been describing the actions that have been taken during the pandemic and they're pretty draconian IMO.  I thought things were restrictive here, but not like Oz.

I have to agree, some states have gone too far. Victoria has been almost completely shut down, this is because they used totally untrained staff to supervise the quarantined hotel guests. They were letting people out to go shopping having drinks and parties with the guests which resulted in a very big unchecked spike in positive tests, they now almost have it under control and are relaxing the rules. Our state Queensland has closed its borders to other areas where the virus was out of control, but now it is almost back to normal as our premier has had a good contact tracing system which has kept it right down. In Queensland only the idiots are looked for,  the rest of us are living an almost normal existence, we went to Costco on Tuesday and our normal shop today, the only difference is people are not invading each others space. It has been two months now since an infection was not traceable In Queensland. From what I have read Canada is also in a good position. 
 

our biggest problem was when one of the cities, Sydney, allowed hundreds of positive people to disembark a cruise ship knowing they had the virus, of course no one took responsibility but it caused most of the major problems we have had. As I said most of the country is now clear and restrictions almost gone, those that are in are very minor.

 

We still have contactless deliveries, they place all parcels at the door, knock to let you know and take a picture of the delivered item in place

We can use phones in MA, but it must be hands free, and you have to mount your phone on top of the dashboard.

Things are not great here.  We've have an uptick in the number of cases over the past three weeks or so that more or less coincides with schools reopening.  We're getting prepared for a second wave and measures have already been announced rolling back some of the increases in gathering size in a number or urban centres.

Another reason I don't engage in social media like FaceBook, Instagram, SnapChat, etc. Between that, CCTV, being able to track your vehicle, etc., privacy is becoming a thing of the past. Heck, last year I was on the 10th hole and a drone was hovering in the area, lol.

Drones seem to be a problem everywhere now and in Australia it is illegal to shoot them down, been caught many times perving on people sunbathing in their own back yard.

behave accordingly. But you can bet your bippy that if you make a hole in one you'll never see it on video....but

the video does exist........somewhere................................so you run into the clubhouse and ask to see the video

and they're like "WTH are you talking about? Call Google and see if one of their satellites caught it"....so you call

Google and they say what course and hole was it on?" So you tell them and they say "no, that's not us, call Larry's

Drone Service". So you call Larry's and they ask you what date you made the hole in one. You give them the date

and Larry comes on the phone and says Billy was out sick that day and the drones weren't flying the course.

Played 9 four days last week. The two things i became aware of:

#1:  it really feels good to be hitting golf balls again.

#2:  The "Proper dress on the course" group on here would go crazy seeing what

       the younger generation are wearing while teeing it up !  I played on 4 different

       courses, and i saw tennis shorts, basketball shorts, muscle shirts, cut off jeans, and many many hats worn backward !

 While I didn't care, it did make me think of the proper attire brigade on WRX !

I think it is important to have some standards but some courses go overboard, we have a relatively local course that will only allow you to play wearing club socks. If you do not have them you have to buy them and wear them before teeing off, if you do not you do not play. 
 

suffice to say as a Griller I have never been there.

 

We were on holiday in Queensland and by the resort we were staying at there is a golf course located on an island half mile off shore. There is a regular free ferry to the island. We wanted to go over just to walk on the beach not to go in the club house, they would not let us on the ferry because we were not in the clubs dress code. We objected and said we only wanted to walk but as this is the only ferry and the club is up itself big time we could not go. Already on the ferry was a young man dressed in the most inappropriate golfing gear you can imagine, when we pointed him out to the driver he shrugged his shoulders and turned away
 

As far as we could find out the club does not own the island, but still act as if they do.

Fella--- Last night in the 9 and dine we had an older gentleman dressed to the nines in old school Scott Tartan etc. he actually looked distinguished. Talked to him a little while and told him about my vintage clubs etc. He agreed and both he and his wife were thrilled that I asked him later on to pose for a photo with my Macgregor Tartan Staff Bag.

 

Speaking of yesterday it was one big positive for me. I played both the Shoot Out and the 9 and dine with my wife. I had reached down deep inside my brain and figured out how to plot and plod my way around the course. Now all day it was cool and extremely wet and windy. In the scramble we had some long shots into the green even with good drives. I had knew from my standpoint this was going to happen. I had psyched myself up to miss it in the correct spots. Tell you what it was brutal. I darn near wore my 4 wood and 23 hybrid out. Basically played my own game. I always had a good short game and the last few months I had honed it back pretty sharp. We shot -7 which was good for 2 nd place no side bets. I had went back to putting with an old Ironmaster blade putter with a conventional grip both the grip itself and my hand position. We finished 2 nd out of 16 teams. Had to really pace my back since it was CPO. 

 

The 9 and Dine is basically a Husband wife team scramble for 9 holes. I figured we would get killed since my wife does not play much. I stuck to the game plan for me. As cold, wet and windy as it had really gotten in the afternoon I figured maybe plus 4 would take it. I hit a low ball anyhow and the Stuey Stinger was working. I had conserved myself during the scramble that morning and had rested 4 hrs before working out and playing the afternoon. I knew some of the teams were older guys and ladies had played the event in the morning. Did make my goal and birdied the 2 par 5s. On the 4s we had trouble reaching in regulation I went to plan and left it for up and down. We failed one time to get up up and down thus the bogie. Ended up winning the darn thing and out of 20 teams and we were the only team under par. I remember when I posted our card our GM/ Owner said " really?" I told him we played our butts off.  The couple who played with us verified the score. I think the closest score to us was +2. Was stoked to the fact I actually thought my way around the course and I had the confidence in my short game to pull it off. Had a great dinner of fresh local boiled shrimp with corn on the cob potatoes and all. The play was not all me. They had the ladies tees way up since you had some older ladies in it and it was wet and cold. On those holes I did not get on the driver too much because my wife could hit it off the ladies tee about 120 or so and we could get into position. Part of my plodding and thinking game plan

 

I have started my intense physical therapy and am getting stronger and stronger. Yep I am doing 3 sessions a week 3 hrs per session. So I am doing good and getting there
