I have to admit I get frustrated when I putt badly. I always feel if I'm on the green a 3 putt is not acceptable. I shot a 42 the other day with 3 three putts. That irked me. Last year I went a month without 3 putting one time. That's the way it should be. 😅

Back when I could putt I always thought I was subject to make any putt whether 3 feet or 30 feet. Now days it is streaky

Those guys only exist on the interwebz. The “good ball striker with the bad short game that keeps him at a 15”….is impossible.

What this invariably is is a guy who thinks he’s a good ball striker because all of his shots are airborne and he plays every week with ~25 index guys. He does not know what a good ball striker is, and by definition, a good ball striker cannot be a 15 index!

Or it’s ego — somehow you have more street cred if you are a good ball striker with bad short game versus the other way round. The same guy feels like more of a player if his miss is left.

I can’t remember if I was there for more than one refresh cycle but I was once below a 4 for a hot minute and I was never, ever, but never ever a good ball striker. I got there because I had a decent short game and was a good putter. Poor ball striking kept me from being better.

Back when I could play I never considered myself a good ball striker. I used to not be a club ho. My old Mac Irons (First set of VIPs) I played on and off for darn near 20 years. Look at them and I do not have the "desirable" dime sized wear on the faces. My wear is all over the faces same with wedges. Back in those days I had a stellar short game and was a get out of jail artist. LOL with the real lumber I was long but could not spell fairway much less hit one. On really tight courses I used the 1 iron a lot. For some uncanny reason that was one club I could hit fairly straight. I can remember when my Old Man ordered me a set of 1974 Spalding Elite MV-2 irons (I paid for them) he ordered me an extra 5 iron. He told the guy he knew at the Spalding Custom Department " most players beat a wedge and 9 iron to death but my boy can't find a fairway so he beats a 5 iron to death". Yeh like I said before he was always about GIRs and FIRs and could not stand my game no matter the score. Yeah the 5 iron was mostly my get out of jail club and to some extent now still is. My old man would tell anyone if I could not get out of jail and was not a good wedge player and putter I could not break 95. But I always did things my way right or wrong and still do

I've always been a pretty confident putter. Never been all that technical about it; don't use any alignment aids other than "Is the face square to my line?" I'll visualize a white line from my ball to the cup once I have a read; step up, get comfy and let it go.

Easy game!

Speaking of which, they opened one of T-Dub's Popstrokes here; just south of Mandalay Bay. Def wanna go check it out.

I was always an instinct putter. The last few years I had gotten away from that and had gotten really technical. Went through all the "stages" with SS grips on the putter and using the claw grip with my hands using a SBST stroke. I was always an arc putter with a slightly open stance. Now for a while because of my back I went to a Broom Stick. You have to really be technical with those things. My back had healed up so I went back to putting with a regular putter. I had noticed on the Par3 rounds with my wife that putting with one of my vintage putters I was actually relaxing and went back to my natural stroke which is an arc stroke. Now that little course the greens are small and fast with lots of undulation but are always in good shape and roll good. My home course is just the opposite. We do have some ridges but our greens are bumpy and grainy. The only way they roll decent is if they roll them. I know all of our guys were complaining yesterday. Of course right now as SOP this time of the year they are being trampled to death. Right now they are putting out between 120 to 140 players a day including us. I looked at reviews on line last night and most of the complaints are about the greens. But on the other hand we have the cheapest walk in rates on the beach and the lowest booking rates on the 2 sites they book on. I guess one can not have everything. But yeah I went back to one of my old putters I have had for 30 years and I love the feel so I am sticking for a while.

I used to fix my putting woes by being the most aggressive approach player on earth.  Stats showed me twice as likely to get up and down from anywhere vs trying to 2 putt a 35-40 footer. So I’d essentially miss greens to make pars.  And at the same time , stuff a few impossible approaches and two putt from 6 feet for par 🤣.

I think I’m done talking about this.  It’s bad juju to relive some of this.  I’m certain of it.  Speak of the _____ and he will appear.

Well do not feel bad. I had a blow up round yesterday as in nothing went right. I did hit the driver good only missed one fairway with it and got a bad break there (shrug part of golf). Had some crazy stuff happen around the greens but it is golf. Shot 87 (+15 ) off of a 10 index so I did not do squat. Looked this AM and my handicap went up to 12. Our handicaps change daily with the system we use. Like my partner said yesterday typical Stuey 77 one day 87 the next. With me anymore it can be drastic swings. Yesterday we were the first group off and played the first 9 in under 2 hours. On the turn with the double tee tourist traffic we ran into a log jam on the back. took us 3 1?2 hours to play the back and I lost all concentration. Back never tightened up but I lost all focus. One of those days I had to keep reminding myself I was lucky to even be playing golf.

I am off in a little to play the Friday small money game

Nothing more demoralizing than a bad putting day when you're hitting the ball well.

Well. I was closer than I thought.  Awesome.  That’s a nice thing to look at in my opinion.  Much better than 2k neighbors.

😁 I’ve played Pings most of my life, with one lengthy detour to Titleist 755 irons, so I’ve never gotten the satisfaction of the dime wear spot. Or in my case, 14 different wear spots. 🤣

Their lies are the straight part.  The distance isn’t really talent in today’s equipment. It’s just youth.  A 6-1 6-3 guy who’s 25-35 can fly it 300 if he’s coordinated enough to tie his own shoes , with today’s drivers .  But he has no idea where it’s going.  You can go play any of these am events for state or county level and see a field full of them.  Only about half will be in control.

( I’m not arguing by the way. Just telling you what I’ve seen in person ).

Correct. I learned that fact sitting on the Patio at my course watching the 10th tee when I was rehabbing. Almost anyone can hit a modern 460 CC driver. Even us half crippled old farts. Like I said I practice some with one of my beater persimmon drivers on the range quite a bit. I have told the guys in the league numerous times. Want a dose of reality? Hit this thing as I present a persimmon driver. So far no takers. In reality I only hit a modern driver about 200 to 220 these days. Persimmon about 180 and 190 when I nut it.  But by practicing with the persimmon makes me straighter with the modern.

well, it’s friday martini night. 2nd one being prepared by the lovely wife before i cook a steak while she makes a killer salad.

gimme some ideas. it’s ask soloman1 night!

OK.  Although it's now past martini time Friday.

What shafts do you use in your SLED putters?  Specifics.  A new putter head is in-coming and trying to determine whether I want to pull a generic steel shaft from one I no longer use.  Or install one of several steel iron shafts I have on hand.  Like an uncut TTDG R300 Sensicore .370.  Weight is similar to listed putter shafts.  Been researching, and not found consensus on tip trim amount.  Read 4i, 8i, PW.  Do putter shafts make a difference?  IDK.

Comments from anyone would be appreciated.
