Weird looking headcover. Like a cross between their standard one and the m1. Also never liked the d2 shape, looking forward to the d3 pics

I love the gray coming back. I still have a 905S and love looking at it. here is hoping the heads don't look like alien space ships in person.

hmmmm.... I look forward to hearing what that weight adjustability does tech wise.

 

Also, I wonder who on tour will give it a go this week... it will be interesting to hear some of the feedback.

Yeah, I am curious about the reasoning behind the weighting system. What choice is there to move weight farther back (for more forgiveness and more spin) versus toward the face (for less forgiveness but less spin)?

 

I love the gray paint.

 

I wish the face was (more) plain stainless.

 

I am maybe most interested in how they got it to be more quiet than 915's.

The weight plug chamber is the same as the C16. Each weight there are two plugs. One is labeled neutral and can go into the chamber either way. The other is labeled fade/draw with a + and - on each end + being the heavier end. Heavier end is inserted + toward the toe to encourage a fade. The + end toward the heel encourages a draw. Basically three weight positions to change the CG along with the angled chamber the plug is locked into (surefit CG).. Wonderful opportunity for Titleist to make a lot of money on weight kits as these plugs are obviously more expensive than the old weights..wouldn't be a new driver without new weights... Just left Costco, must have missed all the drivers with similar face graphics..

 

Don't understand the comments about feeling sorry for the people that bought C16 if the technology is in these. Yes the weight plug and recoil channel appear to be from the C16, but the 917 won't have the premium materials in the C16 head. Plus most of all many people have had a C16 since April. That is a full 8 months before the 917 will go on sale..In view of the amount of money that is often spent on tour equipment or prototype clubs $1000 seems pretty cheap for a club 8 months early which will probably cost $499. And if available you sure aren't getting the surefit grip technology in the base price. Don't know the cost of the limited production shafts in the C16 so can't compare that to OEM offerings in 917.

They're already on sale for $349 in case you didn't know. Selection is rather slim though.

I'll be picking one up when they are available. I waited so long in buying a 915 that they are ready to be replaced by these so I'll just get the new one. Always been a fan of Titleist drivers. Out of the eight different series that I've used the only one that I've been remotely disappointed with was the 907D2. This one should be a winner as well.

I'm in. Love my 915 and if the 917 is better (lower spin / more ball speed) I see no reason not to change.... my wife on the other hand....

Any idea if the hotmelt port shown in the photos will be on the retail clubs or is that only for tour issue heads like these?

Cool. The toe on the 917 D2 appears to be more rounded than the toe on the 915 D2 to me.

Just viewed the pic's of the D2 that is on the home page, Ugly would be understated! The shape is disgusting to look at, and the face graphics look like a driver sold at Costco! Hopefully the D3 is better!

 

It's not THAT bad. I'd reserve judgment until you see them in person.
