What Are You "OCD" About?

Recommended Posts

JP has this ball repair tool. It is just a simple magnetized brass colored prong that is tactually pleasant that holds his ball marker - assuming he needs to putt - that he likes to have with him. It's not really OCD so much, but he is fond of it beyond its actual value monetarily. He bought it used off a lesbian, which is not really relevant, but she did bring it up at the time JP bought it...but he does like it.

I guess I am a little ocd about how my grips are put on. I use ribbed cords and they have to be just so (open about 10-15*). Before I used compressed air, I was pumping grips off 2-3-4 times before I would be happy. Used to be quite the production.

I also have to have clean clubs at all times. I carry three towels and a brush.

I also feel if I don't have a divot tool in my pocket, I will not hit any greens.

And finally, I have two raw vokeys that will rust after a light drizzle. It drives me crazy. No rust on my clubs!! I have CLR and sanding sponges just for these clubs.

Thanks for listening.

I'm not OCD in life at all. In fact, my boss calls me "No CD"

But golf is different:

- ball marker must go in right pocket. divot repair tool must go in left pocket. nothing else may be in any pocket.

- full tees are for driver. i have to use broken tees i find for any other club. broken tee must be found on tee box and left behind when done.

- put my left shoe on before my right shoe. same for socks. left shoe/sock also must be taken off before right shoe/right sock.

- always use same side of coin or ball marker. it can change round to round, but same side for each round.

The flag drop. I have a good friend that whenever he pulls a flag it seems like he tries to drop it from the highest point possible on the green, "whoosh, thwack!". It drives me crazy. I've tried to explain to him that dropping the flag like that actually leaves an imprint on the green but he's oblivious. I've perfected the flag drop:foot catch, years of soccer no doubt helping.

Not much other than I have about $15 worth of quarters from the years 1965-1974. I have yet to shoot my coin :(

Only a tee and a quarter in my pocket, nothing else.

Ball marker and ball mark repair tool in left pocket. Tees and ball are in right pocket. The reason for this is I have a glove on my left hand prior to teeing off so right hand more easily slips into pocket to get tee and ball out. When I'm on the green I don't have a glove on so I can easily get ball marker and repair tool out. I wipe my clubs off after every shot but never clean them at home.

I have a friend who I have been playing golf with for 7 years. He is still playing an R7 driver and the same irons as when I met him. They look absolutely brand new. He is the guy whose shirttail never comes untucked and he looks just as fresh at the end of a round as the beginning. Drives an older SUV that looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. Great guy who is also always fun to play with and is always upbeat and positive.

I think my biggest pet peeve/OCD trigger is litter on the course. Well...litter in general, but on the course...it drives me nuts. Granted some of it is an accident (ex. Snack wrapper blowing out of the cart dash), but a big plastic bottle (falling out of the cart and bouncing along the path)...there's no way that someone didn't hear that. My last round...I was picking up drink bottles and snack food wrappers. Which brings me to hand sanitizer...a bit OCD about using that stuff.

All my grips need to be the same.

I keep cheap grips around to test a new club, but before is goes in the bag I will cut off the cheap and install the NDMC.

I also use a set of digital calipers to make sure the wrapping is the same from one shaft to another (some need 8 wraps, some need 7 to get to my starting girth of .666).

Yes, I doubt I would really notice small changes - but if I know they are there........

Fixing pitch marks. Most of the guys in the league make fun of me because i'll walk around the green fixing pitch marks. I figure this is a good thing to be anal about, though.

Me too. If I see a bunch I "have" to fix them. I try to do it while others are getting set up, putting, etc. so as not to delay anything. I once fixed over 100 in one round. I don't get how people can walk by one without fixing it but then again, I'm the one walking around the house all the time turning off lights :-)

Raking a bunker after I have been in there is another place I also seek perfection.

I'm OCD with picking up trash if it is near where my ball is. These courses are too beautiful to let someone's skittles wrapper ruin the ambiance.

Better that than waiting for them to replace the head cover after every shot.

Uh, slow play vs fingernails on the chalkboard, lol. Really, though I don't

have a problem with people putting their head covers back on......maybe

because I do it myself and it takes 5 seconds.

I've been thinking about this.....and how that would come up in conversation.....

Did JP 'crack on' to said lesbian and get knock back?

I would say I'm OCD about keeping my equipment nice but primarily with my putters. I keep all my putters as nice as possible which includes never EVER tapping down my coin with my putter. I just can't stand anymore damage to my clubs than the unavoidable wear and tear from normal play. I have a Scotty Studio Stainless Newport that my dad bought me new in 2003. I played it until spring of last year and it still looks like the day I got it.

Pitch mark repair tool in my right pocket, ball mark in the left. My push cart has places for four tees. Must have two long tees on the right side, two short tees on the left. I keep a spray bottle of water in the cup holder to clean clubs & balls.
