What Are You "OCD" About?

Sean2

Recommended Posts

*clean clubs regularly. hate seeing clubs with caked on dirt

Β

*No phone or wallet on me, 3 white tees and a Oakland Raider ball mark/divot tool in left pocket . (Raider logo down on birdie putts for extra OCD points)

Β

*dad taught me to fix mine and two extra pitch marks on each green. This is a must before starting my putting routine

Β

*I clean my ball with spit and my hands unless I make a bogey. Then I wash the bogey off with the machine on the next hole. Double bogeys? Ooooh weee those balls go to my wife. Even a brand new Pro V will get sacrificed if it has the audacity to give me a double.

Clubs and shafts have to be spotless to include no fingerprints.

Β

Β

Used my TPC at Eagle Trace ball marker since high school for every round I've played the last 20 years or so.

I'm very thorough with my club cleaning post round, it's therapeutic. I was treating my equipment with care even as a little kid with liquidation clubs. Nothing has changed lol.

Β

On course, like others have said I try hard to keep my home course pristine. It's true when you disrespect the course, you don't get breaks.

Β

I don't have a unique ocd, same as most others

12 balls in bag.. even though I really dont need that many.. But I always start w/ 12.

I have 7 tees in my right pocket at the beginning of the round.. every time.

I have several things in my bag that ive had for years that I keep in the bag just because. a purple scooby doo tee that my wife gave me before we were even dating. also a chuck e cheese token that she gave me.

Β

thats all i think!

- Clean club and back in the proper slot in my bag after I hit a shot, head cover goes back on as well if its a wood or my putter

- No golf balls in pocket; only my pitchfork, two quarters and some tees

- I always take my glove off after every shot. It gets hot down in the NC in the spring/summer and it helps keep the glove dry

Β

Probably my only strange one would be if I get to the tee box and will be teeing off first but the group in front hasn't cleared the fairway/green, I won't tee my ball up until I'm ready to tee off. My buddies I usually play with will sometimes tee it up right when they get to the tee box if they are teeing off first and let it sit there until it's clear to go. Just can't do this

1. Pre round stretch done after taking a few practice putts, the only time I didn't do my stretches I tore an intercostal muscle.

Β

2. Extra ball in my right pocket, Ball Marker small tee and divot tool in my left pocket

Β

3. replacing / sanding divots and fixing my ball mark plus 2 more

Β

4. Cheap Balls in top ball pocket, Expensive Balls in smaller bottom pocket

Β

5. Gotta have a dog and a beer at the turn or the round doesn't feel complete

Β

6. Club goes back in the same slot it came out of. I have full dividers for all my clubs in my bag, so the top is driver left 3 wood right, then 3 hybrid left 4 iron middle 5 iron middle 4 hybrid right then 6 iron left 7 iron middle 8 iron middle 9 iron right then PW left Gap wedge Middle SW middle lob wedge right, then putter on the bottom

Β

and yes I do realize that is more than the allowed amount of clubs but I dont play for money or in tournaments yet so no big deal to me

My only OCD thing on the course is removing tees left in the ground on the tee box. When I step on a tee that has been driven into the ground it makes me want to snap someone's neck. I have no idea why it irks me so much, but it does. I pop every one I can see out and throw it aside before I tee up myself.

Fixing pitch marks on the putting green. I fix 5 or 6 on every green. Why don't people repair their pitch marks?

Β

Preach it man! I recently went to try out a private course I was thinking of joining and the greens were almost akin to the surface of the moon. I can understand on a muni but why are the members not taking care of their own course? Makes no sense!!!!

1. Cleaning my clubheads after every round including making sure there is absolutely nothing in the grooves.

2. Having my lucky 2009 Bethpage US Open ballmarker on the right side of my cap every round

3. My tees in a ziploc bag in the lower front pocket

4. My balls in a toiletry bag in the middle front pocket

5. My sunscreen/bug spray/sunglasses case in the top front pocket.

6. Towel and Frogger brush clipped on the right side of my bag

7. My iPhone (gps app) in left pocket

8. Two balls, two tees, ballmark repair tool in right pocket.

9. Fixing every single ballmark I see on every hole.

10. Cleaning my clubhead after every shot.

Β

I know it sounds like a lot, but my pace of play is pretty quick.

Now THAT sounds a bit OCD.

Always a day late and a dollar short,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but there's a difference between OCD and habits.

Β

Are you guys really OCD about all this stuff ? Are "bad things" going to happen if you don't do these things ? Do you have to get these things done ? Or else what ?

Β

I mean I have habits like everyone else; small tees in my left pocket and long ones in the right. Ball mark tool is always in my right pocket. I fix other ball marks on the green IF I have the time (don't go looking for all of them).

Β

But these things are habitual, not OCD. And the sky's not falling (and I'm not going to shoot 150) if I can't find my ball mark tool in my bag or forget my ball marker on my hat and have to dig for a coin.

OCD to me is guys like Coco Crisp and Dustin Pedroia batters box antics. Or in golf certain guys' tee box/ pre shot routines like Dufner's waggles. One guy at my club goes berzerk anytime somebody is in line in front of or behind his putt and has to start over. Even if you're 20 feet away from the hole he throws a tantrum. These are OCD things that people HAVE to do before they shoot/putt etc.

I have to immediately take any stickers off my shafts after purchasing and rub down with Goo Gone. Drives me nuts and many of my buddies leave their stickers and price stickers on the club forever, doesn't bother them at all.

Price stickers, info sticker, yes. But shaft label...are you removing that too? I try to keep that perfect. My OCD is with grips. I want the same grip on every club I play. I remove the stock grip and replace with a standard size Tour Wrap. Even if the stock grip is a standard size Tour Wrap, I don't want the company logo on it:)

Lol! I'm the reverse ... I regrip clubs that DON'T have the club manufacturer's name on the grip ... and grips MUST be all black. I also, like many others, remove all stickers added by the retailer and have to have the clubs in the right slots in my 14 divider bag. And yes, I do use iron head covers (howls of derisive laughter),

I have to leave the house/start the round with my clubs in the correct layout in my bag. I do this for two reasons 1. to make sure I have all my clubs(I have a small range bag that holds 4-5 clubs and move clubs to that for range sessions), and the right clubs before I leave the house (i.e. I might pull my driver, 3W etc. out of the bag for executive courses or maybe I'll add a lob wedge and remove something else etc). 2. During the round I know exactly where to reach for the club I plan to play for my next shot.

Β

I have to towel & brush off a grassy or dirty club after hitting it. Clubs that were used during a round get cleaned with hot soapy water when I get home. I'll also wipe down the grips at the same time.

Β

I'm also with everyone else who has an issue with the dam stickers/decals on the club shafts. They have to go as soon as I get a club. Goo Gone works great.

Β

I'll replace/refill any lost balls upon returning home, so I'm all ready for the next time I head out to play a round.

Β

I always carry 2-3 gloves, once they get sweatty and start to deform a little, I'll switch to a dry one.

Β

Those are pretty much it.

Β

* Post Note: I rarely play a round in shorts. I almost exclusively have to play in lite-weight pants, I'm light skinned and my legs burn easy, even with sunscreen. Practice range, shorts or pants...either is OK. But, I've found when I golf in shorts, I just feel... off. So it's kinda OCD.

I've become OCD about my golf clothes. I have nearly 100 pairs of shorts

and a few hundred polos plus coverups, jackets, etc. OCD may not be

the correct word....more like HO! Mostly all Nike with a little Adidas in the

mix. I could play golf every day for a year and never look the same. It's a

sickness. I transferred my club hoing over to clothes hoing. It's a slippery

slope!

have to clean my sticks thoroughly after a round. Immediately. Bag comes out of the trunk, and into the yard, while I fill a bucket with water and scrub down each club with an old soft toothbrush.

Β

Must have 2 long tees, one short tee, ball marker, repair tool, and two balls in the pockets

Β

Any sand must be brushed off immediately after the shot, then wiped off with a towel.

Club arrangement in the bag.

I recently rented a set of clubs while on vacation and they had some nerve putting the longer clubs at the "bottom " of the bag and the shorter clubs at the "top". I had to re-arrange them even though it was just a one-round rental...
