Any love out there for the old Ping isi beryllium copper model?

 

Came across a set for a steal on ebay and have been gaming them for the last few months with pleasing results. A few pictures attached. The patina was very irregular so I wanted to return to there original look and let them darken whilst I game them. I soaked the heads in white vinegar and sea salt for and hour and then gave them a gentle rub with a very fine scotch pad. I am pleased with the results;

Aside from some pitting on the zz-65 4 iron shaft and a couple of minor leading edge battle scars on the wedges they are tip top Roger. The SW head always surprises me when I pull it out the bag though!

 

Funnily enough I shipped a set of Apex 99's to a guy in N Zealand recently. Is the 2nd hand market quite limited out there for clubs?

Had a set of these for a few years, until they were stolen. If ever there was a set that I had laser like accuracy with, it was these. I've been so busy hoing JDM, kinda didn't think to look for these.

 

Now I have something to do before breakfast. And, as it's my usual golf day and there's another typhoon bearing down on Japan, maybe I can excuse myself for buying a set.

That's some of the best "artificial' patina I've seen. ISI's are still one of my all-time favorite Ping irons. Had stints with both the BeCu and BeNi. While nothing beats the look of BeCu, I preferred the feel of the BeNi. While they play just fine, my iron game needs the benefits the G25s offer me.

For the OP, if you want to get rid of the pitting on the shafts, wad up some aluminum foil, wet it, and rub it briskly up and down the shaft until the rust is gone. Little trick for you....

I looked on Ebay last night, and they are going for about 400 for a set...

 

Eye2s and iSi-Copper.. all 20 plus year old designs and they still go for 75% of what they were new.... I paid 699 for my old copper set.. I wish I still had them just for the way they look

I know when I bust them out a few times a year I always get comments from playing partners about how they look.

 

They are forgiving and indestructible. Top tier irons worth the 400 or whatever that they are listed for on ebay.

Wildly underrated set of irons. Better than the Eye2's IMO. And--correct me if I'm wrong--but I believe they were the last BeCu set of irons Ping made?

Saw a guy gaming them a few weeks ago in a tournament. I love how they shine from contact and dull everywhere else. Really the opposite of all other clubs. They pop.

I just sold my old set of ISI-K's to a coworker who is getting back in the game. My all time favorite classic Ping iron is the ISI hands down. I love the ISI but it was time to let them go because I don't need a back up set anymore. 3-LW blue dots with JZ stiff loaded with cushins.

 

Call me crazy, but I liked the Zing 2's as well.

Ha $400 is NOT 75% of what they cost new. I paid too much for mine, but then again they are hard to find.

yeah, that would be 600 new... math is hard at 5am.... but new at 699 and 20 years later being 400 dollars is pretty killer value retention

I would love a set of Copper iSi's--- I would soak them in a bath of Diet coke overnight (just like I used to) I would then hang them on the friggin wall and stare longingly at them...

Diet doesn't leave a sticky residue like the full sugar version does. That said, I prefer white vinegar or CLR to either of the soda options. And, actually, on old Pings I prefer the patina look--the darker the better for me.
