Bushnell v2 Eating Batteries?

Recommended Posts

I love my Bushnell but it sure goes through batteries fast. Especially since I started using my Monument magnetic cart holder.

Good news - I found a 6 pack of the CR2 batteries on eBay for $12.99 shipped. This beats having to always take the battery out between uses.

Just a little disappointed that the design basically really makes it easy to push the button when you didn't mean to.

Anyone else have this issue? Any secrets you use other than removal of the battery?

Thanks in advance.

I definitely get a full season (100+ rounds) out of a V2 battery.

Do you pull them or is there something else you are doing to keep it from self-draining by the button being pushed while in storage?

I bought mine back in July and just put the third battery in it. Granted the first battery was the original one and who knows how long it had been in the box but still...

I know my old Bushnell went three seasons or more on a battery.

Thanks in advance!

I had (well I still do, but it's retired since I bought a Tour X) a Tour V2 and it also had a tendency to eat batteries. Sometimes it would last many months and then it would eat one in a few weeks. No idea why. I did test one of the dead batteries and it was far from dead but not enough power to run the laser. The thing that really bugged me was that it gave you absolutely no indication it wasn't going to die. Always had a spare in the bag.

Only thing I can really think of is that as parts corrode inside, it takes more power to run the circuits. Still works, but not as efficiently..

Tour X is doing well on the first battery so it seems to be better in that respect,

I don't do anything special. The V2 sits in its carrying case clipped to my golf bag 365/24/7.

I put a new battery in every March as a precaution - but I've never had one go dead.

Yup, both times battery went dead there was zero warning. Today I used it on one hole and it worked fine. On the very next hole I pulled it to get a reading and it was dead.

I will be carrying an extra battery with me now. Just a little silly that their design is so flawed - my old Bushnell 1600 circa 2005 has a very accurate battery indicator. Never once left me without a laser. Bought this one as an upgrade to get the pin seeker tech that my old one lacked. Hate the idea of having to take the battery out all of the time but I guess until I once again upgrade that might also be a possibility.

You can get CR2 in batches of 10 or 20 for a couple dollars per battery. Just keep a couple in the bag and the rest at home. At worst you'll need to change one every 20-30 rounds and probably less than that. And look at it this way...It sure beats having to charge a GPS before every round!

Wow you're lucky. My experience is the same as the OP. If I leave the battery in the device it chews through the battery in a matter of weeks. I take it out between rounds and I get reasonable life out of it but if I leave the battery in the laser it chews through them far too frequently. My experience is also the same as others have mentioned re the battery dying. No warning whatsoever. One minute it's working fine, next minute it's dead. I learnt very early on to always carry a spare battery.

No Battery issues here with my V2. I play approx 50 rounds per year and might change the battery 1x per year. You are absolutely right about no warning however. Shoot a flag get a reading...next hole dead :) I always have a spare battery in the bag just in case.

Got my spares from my eBay sale. Got one in there now!

I love the device. Just frustrating when it craps out without warning.

I had a V2 and replaced it with a Bushnell Z6. If I remember the V2 display would stay lit for about 30 seconds after tapping the start button. The Z6 shuts off after about 5 seconds making if more battery efficient. I believe after many complaints later model V2's were modified to shut off earlier like the Z6.

Timed mine and it's about 20 seconds from initial wake-up button push. But I also have one of those Monument Golf magnetic sleeves that is REALLY close to the button and, once in the case, might actually have been pushing the button while I was carrying my bag.

As I said I love the device and now that I have a spare battery on board should not be an issue. Could not help but wonder if others had also experienced this issue. Definite thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the info. I just went on eBay and picked up 6. That's a lot cheaper than getting a 2 pack at CVS.

Mine used to rip through batteries until I contacted Bushnell. I sent it back and they adjusted it somehow. That was two years ago... same battery to this day, granted I don't use it every day, but maybe 50 rounds a year?

Good luck.

I'm somewhat amazed at all the reports of the battery lasting for some of the people here. In my case it didn't so I replaced the unit with one that has a GPS also attached but allowed recharging. It's been a few years now and I still have not activated the GPS but do use the rangefinder regularly, recharging the night before. Still no problems.

  • 4 weeks later...

...and right on cue, my V2 gave up the ghost mid-round today...

Now I feel your pain.

I actually feel guilty. : )

Seriously, that deal on the bay is incredible. I now carry enough spares to never have to worry. I am out there ranging everything in sight too. "Wonder how far away that squirrel is? Hmmmmm, 27 yards. Interesting!"
