The two hatches I've owned have had a lot of room in them a Saab 93 and current Pontiac Vibe....my clubs fit without having to put a seat down....they are not all created equal, but it seams like most these days are tiny cubic foot wise in the hatch in comparison....I did drive the fit and it would have been my next choice over the vibe....really it was 1a and 1b, truth is the Fit is a bit nicer, but I had significant cash incentives at the time plus employee discount made it a no brainer. The Civic hatchback def sounds promising.

I went and drove an Impreza Sport and a Mazda 3 today. I really like the Impreza, and it is the leader in the clubhouse. I looked at the CX3 too, but the Mazda 3 has more room and was nicer (IMO). I need to go drive a Fit and Civic.

I'm thinking I'll go automatic because I'm sure my daughters will not want to learn to drive a manual, but the manual is tempting simply for the fact it would be harder to text and drive. Anyone with teenagers have an opinion on manual vs auto?

Not sure if they fixed the problem, but I had a 2012 Impreza in manual which was the first year of the newer design including the the flat 4 2.0L engine. The car burned through engine oil so bad that I had to make sure to carry a quart on me at all times because the oil light would pop on before every thousand miles. I got 72,000 miles out of the car before I traded it in for my current Jeep, but I read online that the manual version was the type that experienced it most consistently across the nation. It was a great car beyond that but this problem was a big nuisance.

I'd stay far away from Chevy.

any specific reason?

The cruze is POS. our 2011 cruze that my wife babies the piss out of, no revving pass 3k, no heavy acceleration, no hard corners etc only 115,000 KM (not miles). Under warranty we had the computer for the climate controls reprogrammed twice and replaced once, water pump replaced. Once the warranty was up we had the camshaft cover go (throws an evap code) then we had the purge solenoid go (again throws an evap code). Chevy so graciously makes the coolant housing out of plastic and yup that cracked and starting leaking slowly. My final straw with the car was both front lower balls joints and tie rods needed to be replaced.

I thought at first maybe I just got a lemon or these are not common problems... think again. Google cruze climate controls, or camshaft cover or even the coolant housing.

I have a 2013 Hyundai elantra GT with 138,000 km and the thing has been great. no issues other than a wheel baring covered under warranty. The only thing that sucks about this hatch is the solid rear axle which takes some getting use to.

I would hope the 2017 is a better model....

I wouldn't "hope" when buying a new vehicle. Style wise, the car has changed. Quality wise it doesn't look like much as changed.

I am leaning towards the Civic Hatchback right now, hope to get out and drive some in the next week or so.

Whatever hatchback you end up with, hopefully it has the retractable cover that hides your gear from view, especially if you're in the habit of keeping the clubs in the car.

my Elantra GT has a fairly decent trunk. Anything more than clubs and that cover is not fitting. I have push cart, my bag, shoes and some other crap and there is no way the privacy cover is going on. The best defense is tint that is nice and dark.

They have the exact model/color/ package on one that is on it's way to the dealership, hope to get out and drive it Saturday after my tee time.

I guess my point is . . . the druggie (and there are a lot of them) that steals clubs usually doesn't know the difference between Miuras and 40 year old Northwesterns. He just wants to cash in your clubs at the local pawn shop to help finance his habit. I haul my clubs in an SUV, but I bring them in at night if I leave the car out. And I live in a decent neighborhood. Call me paranoid . . . .

I agree... .even with my dark tint I now take my clubs out whenever possible as I dont want to worry constantly about them.

They fixed that issue. I have a 13 Impreza Sport 5MT and have no oil consumption issues. OP, get the MT. The kids may be timid to learn but once they do theyll love it. Every teenager that works for me has been taught how to drive a stick.

I'll never buy another daily that isn't a Subaru.

I'm a Honda guy. The HR-V looks like it would check off most of your boxes. OTOH, I drove a non-hatch Civic for a few years and had no problem fitting two sets of clubs in the trunk.

Honda is always at the top of my list (see my posts on the Fit), but the reviews I've read of the HR-V are not that good - depending on what you want, I think the Fit, CR-V or Civic Hatch is a better choice.

That's good to hear, because I really loved the car minus the oil issue.

It appears the only people who like the Cruze Hatch, are the "non-actors" on the TV commercials.

I like the looks of the Cruze hatch, but I have not driven one. I know a lot of people crush Chevrolet, but we have a lot of Impalas for my day job, they lead a very tough life and have done well.

I need to drive the Civic, but I'm going to most likely buy an Impreza Sport. The Impreza has style, value, and AWD is nice up here.

I am a Hatchback guy from way back in the day when the Hot hatches (VW GTI) debuted in the 80s

I too have a 4 wheel drive truck and was looking for another vehicle to use for work that got better mileage. A good friend owns a Toyota dealership and I really liked the iM, and he suggested I test drive a Prius. Really? I bought the Prius. Really like it. Solid car and 55mpg.

I'd go with the Audi A3 1.4, the boot (trunk) is big enough maybe minus the driver in the bag which isn't the end of the world. Good car, drives nice, fairly light of fuel and well put together.

Honesty I'd probably end up doing what I always do which is chuck a towel down on the back seat and then my bag on top.

Not sure if you've bought anything yet but if you buy or lease a NEW Sube. Let me know prior, I'll send you a $500 coupon.
