Baba booey 25th

As who, pray tell, will be the arbiter of what is, and is not, inane Sean?

Sean2 was in the Marines, so, I would give him full power of command on this.

As his civilian advisor, I would make recommendations.

Like, if you yell bababboey, they drop a 100lb sack of potatoes on you ; )

Or how about an Acme anvil ala coyote roadrunner? Hilarious.

I wonder why you don't get this behavior at LPGA events?

I'm not sold on the 'at least it's not in their backswing' argument. If I knew someone was going to yell really loudly a split second after contact, I know I would start flinching. I'm sure there are a lot of players who don't like it, but I think they are encouraged to bite there tongues publicly to not shed a negative light on golf fans.

If that's the case, it's pretty sad. The last round I played, I played with my kids late Saturday PM. There was a (for the love of all that is holy, SLOW!) family of four in front of us. Luckily they were done after nine and we only caught them at six. Regardless there were 4 times that one of them yelled/screamed in my backswing. This predictably led to 4 poor shots. I was playing with my kids and just having fun but it was still frustrating. My kids even stated "gosh gee wilkickers dad-cause we talk like that-EVERY time you swing they yell". I won't go as far as blaming my poor play on them but after 4 times, it was certainly in my head. It just was what it was though. Nothing to do about it (other then remarking about it loudly enough to be heard by them-and I will note that none of them were so young that they couldn't contain themselves otherwise I wouldn't even be mildly perturbed). I hope they had a good time still and it was more bad luck for me than anything. They weren't super loud unless I was swinging.

Divits, all I'm saying is (not you necessarily) every time this comes up we have guys, in the same post, talk about these yellers as immature morons, and also that we should "poop on them!". Metaphorically, of course - they actually say things like "string em up by their balls" and other crazy mature things.

So, my question is - yelling may be immature, but what is barking on the internet about the crazy violent stuff that should happen to people that yell? I mean, I have two three year olds, and thats how they see the world - something happens I don't like, I should smash something. It's reasonable to a child - here in grown up land, it's just dudes yelling and it's nothing more than a silly irrelevant event in an otherwise (assumptively) important life. And those with the power to stop it obviously don't want to - or it would be done.

So, bark away, little doggies - if only you had the power to bite so you could prove your moral and maturity superiority to everyone.

Edit: also, in case you couldn't tell, I'm not upset or anything, just wish there weren't these things on golfwrx that cause otherwise rational dudes to put on panties...and, yes, I'm goofing around, but I really do feel that way - nothing screams "girls day out" more than a bunch of guys wailing on the internet about something that is entirely unimportant and entirely out of their control. Suck it up, Glorias - it's just dudes yelling.

Now that's funny - if you went to a drinking party, and kept yelling bababooey at the top of your lungs you would probably be sitting by yourself after a while. Even drunk people would be like 'wtf is wrong with that guy?'

Fa-fa-fooey

Look, guys, I realize it's the internet, but you are talking about violence against people as justified because they yell stuff at a spectator event. Same guys that argue golf is a sport prolly.

It's not my thing to yell, pretty much ever, much less at a spectator event, and while I think it's funny in a stupid kind of way, I don't advocate it at all - most of the bababooey bits are the worst part of the stern show, in fact (IMO obviously) - but is it really worth the consternation being shown?

Get a grip folks. It's dudes yelling. This isn't church and you aren't a deacon.

Second confirmed. Thanks.

Saying that you'd like to throttle someone that you view as obnoxious in the internet isn't quite on the same level as actually doing it. For the record I don't want to hurt those yelling this, however if they were barred from procreating and thus further contaminating the world, I'd be giving that a big fat thumbs up.

And barking all day with no intention of biting makes you a pretty sorry canine.

All kinds of big talk on the internet. Bet it makes you feel like a big man.

Coming back to this one last time. I will state to you that I will NEVER state something on here or anywhere else that I wouldn't say to ones face. I don't talk a big game, certainly that couldn't be construed as such, but I will back up everything I ever state. Cmon man! I'm not tough talking on the internet. Generally 99% of what I post I do with a big sarcastic grin on my face. I know one can't see that fully in text, but my intent should always be looked at as "yanking a chain" or "having general fun". Sarcasm is usually wasted on the internet, but it's not for lack of effort.

I'm the absolute last person ever that should be considered in a light that suggests he's hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. The way it works is you present a view, I present a different and opposing view, and we either come to an agreement or agree to disagree. I called you a Baba Booey! yeller and you said that I was a rabid dog hiding behind a keyboard or something. I forget the exact context and being inherently lazy I'm not scrolling up. I'll agree to move on if you will? I don't want to have to ask someone to get out a ruler. This dawg doesn't bark at all. As always thanks and YMMV.

Ok. We're mostly on the same page. I have kids too, I totally get that. I also didn't advocate violence (not saying I'm above that, just that I didn't this time, lol!). I just stated that if those that yelled stupid stuff were (basically) sterile, the world might just might/could be a better place for our kids. In the grand scheme it means nothing, sure. If someone came up to me and said "you either have stage 4 stomach cancer OR no one ever yells stupid stuff at a golf tournament again, what's your choice?" I'm certainly in favor of those yelling. I think my original point was that wishing physical harm on those that yell stupid stuff over the internet wasn't the worst thing ever. Sure no ones going to follow through. So I see no harm. I stop short of posting and/or doing anything that I wouldn't say/do in real life. That said, others venting at a frustration, even if they say that they'll rip out another mans spleen, are ok with me. I know that they won't follow through and frustrating things are very frustrating. In essence they are barking, I guess. I wasn't doing that. I jokingly said that you were the second guy that was confirmed to yell stupid stuff in a backswing. I'll end this post by sincerely apologizing to you for that if it offended you. That wasn't my intent. My intent is always to make someone smile. I'm a jokingly sarcastic SOB always and that's what I'd love to convey in my posts. Jokingly sarcastic. If my posts are read that way then my mission is achieved. If not then no matter how many words I type, my pony isn't conveyed. As always, thanks.

I find it equally-amusing that crowds of grown people audibly create reactions to a rolling putt... "oh... OHHH... OHHHHH... OHHHHHHHHH.....[putt lips out] AHHHHHHH!

But

The ohhhs are done in suspense and empathy with the player

Those ohhhs are all of the same level. No single one rises way above all the others.

None of the ohhhhs are done to intentionally draw attention to themselves and get on TV so that their friends can save a you tube clip of it.

Here's a thought - why don't you hear bababooey on the putting green? Why is that?

Serious question: what is so fun or funny about yelling non-sequiturs?

Reminds me of when my stepson was about 13 and he would pick up various phrases from internet media. We were at the Boy Scouts blue and gold dinner eating amidst 100+ people and he was joking with his friends and suddenly he yells 'The power of Christ compels you!'. Everyone grew quiet and looked at him. Boy that was just hilarious. Really funny stuff. Needless to say his mom smacked him in the face in the parking lot.

All due respect, that is WAY, WAY funnier than yelling stupid stuff at a top level golf tournament. Or at least is in my blasphemous opinon. :)

I might actually allow that one to be used sparingly at golf tournaments, but only when relevant. Like when somebody yanks one out of bounds or dunks it in the water coming down the stretch in the lead or in a play-off.

OK, 8 yrs later he and I chuckle about that one now. But he didn't think it was funny when his mom smacked him, he cried like a little girl. I'm glad his mom hit him and not me because I would have used a fist. And let's remember this came from a 13 yr old and not from supposedly grown men.

I suppose this whole issue boils down to respect. Respect for the people with whom you are sharing your immediate surroundings. That's it. Really nothing more to it than that.

Edit: I'm not so sure I would try that one at a tournament gretch. That one might actually get you escorted off!

Yup, news flash: some people are rude. You basically have to decide to live a good life and move past it in spite of that indignity.

I bet nobody knew that until someone yelled "hit em with the hein" at a golf tournament.

It's like kids whining "it's not fair!".

Cop out highspeed. So no one should speak up about things that aren't right. People drive drunk, that's not fair. People insult others, that's not fair. People rip other people off, that's not fair. Politicians steal our money, that's not fair. Let's all just shut up eh?

I have witnessed over my life many instances in public venues where some jackwad would get out of hand whether it's a concert or a grocery store line and people come together against the wad and put them down. It can work sometimes. Have faith my friend.

Adam Scott said he's fine with it. If the players don't care, then why should we?

What do you think the reaction to Scott would be if he said he wasn't fine with it?

Answer: he'd be heckled 'till kingdom come by the same sh!theads that think shouting "get in the hole!" and "baba booey" is funny, and he knows it.
