Purgatory is a bit out of the way (NE of Indy), but it's still doable. I really enjoyed the course. Prairie View is also decent, and a bit closer to I-465.

The Trophy Club is a bit north of Indy, and just off I-65. 'Haven't played it, but it's on my to-do list.

How about the Lafayette area courses?

I think they are offering stay and play options.

Also, you can play this course using a free boxgroove membership.

It's not cheap, but supposed to be really good, so one could say, worth it

Zer how are "things" of late?

Thanks for asking, made a big step towards recovery in last night's golf league. Finally figured out what I was doing wrong with the driver and got back to hitting it as well as I have all year last night. 7/7 fairways and no awful 30 yard slice. Irons were going better as well with much bigger and confident swing resulting in more yards. Was even through 4 with a birdie and then had a bad hybrid shot which led to two straight short iron shanks. Got it back on next hole, but limped home with a few more shanks. Finished 7 over for the day, still a huge improvement over where I was even a few days ago.

trip is shaping up nicely.

Thursday: drive to South Bend, pick up buddy and switch to his RV. His business owns an RV that they only use for ND football games tailgating so it only gets used a handful of times per year. Drive to Indy and pick up 6 people at airport coming from Orlando. golf in Indy TBD. Drive to Jasper that night and stay at Hampton Inn.

Friday: 7:40 tee time at Sultan's Run. 1:45 tee time at Donald Ross course

Saturday: 9:00 tee time at Pete Dye for 36 holes

Sunday: drive back to Indy and play somewhere TBD

Best part of the trip is the cost. Buddies bought 2 4some auction packages at golf outings in Orlando where the betting isn't too high for FL golf package. Got packages for $1000 which includes hotel for 2 nights and a round on DR and a round on Dye. So, $250 per man for 2 nights at the hotel and a round on each course.

If you're driving back to South Bend I would suggest Rock Hollow in Peru. Great layout and friendly folks.

Great suggestion - one of the states bargain courses. LOTS of wildlife and just a pretty course.

Martinsville CC is an option. Pretty course w/ mature trees. Haven't played it in a while so I'm not certain of its current condition.

Good choice on the Hampton in Jasper. Schnitzelbank next door is pretty good. Get the 2" smoked pork chop.

Staying at the FL hotel or the Baden? You have to take a shuttle over and check out the West Baden hotel. Has been called the 8th wonder of the world.

Eat at the Ross Course Friday night (fish or ribs), on the deck towards West for sunset cocktails.

It might be a small bit out of the way, but check out Otter Creek in Columbus Indiana. Very nice 27 hole facility that is always in great shape. Have dinner at the Upland Pump House nearby, a really cool local brew pub.

Otherwise Hickory Stick and Timbergate are decent courses on the south side of Indy, but the best golf is on the north side.

You could try the Brickyard if you haven't before. It's worth $100 for the novelty of playing a few holes inside the speedway. A nice course as well. Probably only 10-15 mins from the airport.

How good is Hickory Stick? The course photos on their website make it look like the course is along the ocean in Scotland.

I've never played it, but those course photos can't be real. There's no way that's Central Indiana, lol!

Damn. I thought we discovered a hidden gem in central Indiana, How convenient that the wrong photos are of Portrush and not of, say... Fresh Meadows in Hillside IL.

Indy has some great golf courses. I can recommend any of these!

Wolf Run

Brickyard Crossing

Heartland Crossing

The Fort

Trophy Club

Prairie View

Purgatory

Bearslide

There are more, but these are the best. If you drive a bit further Northwest, you can play both Purdue Courses which are great as well.
