2016 M2 Driver...Who has stuck with it and why?

I've had the 2016 M2 Driver & 3HL FW, and now the 2017 Driver & 3HL FW.

They seem to perform identically.

The only difference I notice is the sound, and most of the time I don't hear it (because of my ninja-like concentration). Playing partner(s) tell me it sounds different.

I am, however, a big fan of the 2017 coloration.

The 2017 definitely launched higher and spins a little more but for me that may be a good thing. More testing to come.

Little update since my 2016 M2 was replaced by 2017 M2.

All same setup with 2 degree up from 9.5* to 11.5*. 2016 M2 still had comfortable baby fade but with the same swing 2017 M2 is pully time to time. I had to move back to 9.5 to avoid way right pull shot.

I like the sound of 2017 M2 better. But mine is "K" serial so cant vouch on all of 2017 M2.

Performance wise they both are the same. 2017 M2 is little more dispersed for me at this point but i think that is mainly due to i am still adjusting new "pully" driver.

2 degrees up from 9.5 means the face is way closed..thus the pulls, especially is the 2017 is more draw biased than the 2016

I'm new to this, but I thought it is only closed if you leave it that way (it'll be 9.5 loft still, but closed) and the loft changes when you square the face up. This is what I gather from that thread and Tom Wishon video.

Add me to the list of people who just picked one up. Dropped a Motore Speeder 6.2 TS X in there, couldn't be happier. Unbelievable how little I'm being penalized when I catch one out of the toe.

Welp I was all set and ready to go to buy a 2016 M2, but considering that my miss is often right, unlike a lot of you guys, the 2017 version might be the way to go. Now just gotta wait for it to drop in price.

Good call, my '16 M2 is the only club I own that hits a fade. Took some time to get used to it but the carry is sweet.

Fitted for the 915D2 10.5 with Diamana S+ Blueboard on the B2 setting. Worked like a charm until I noticed my ball flight started going sky high with no rollout. Purchased the M1 and M2 when they came out last year to see what the hype was about. Returned the M1 immediately and kept the M2 in the bag a little longer. Felt the D2 was more consistent on the course but with less carry.

Recently went to a taylormade fitting when the 2017 model came out. Fitted for the M2'16 and M2'17 for comparison. Ended up really liking the M2'16 again cause the numbers were just too good and my D2 was no longer a fit for me (ball height balloon and way too much spin now). I was shocked by the numbers. 12 more yards and less spin with the 2016 M2. Done deal.

Here's my setup to date: 2016 M2 Standard setting 9.5 Head with Diamana S+ Blueboard Stiff - Thanks too an awesome wrx member on here!

Wish I got fitted sooner for the M2 when I had it last year. My 2 cents. Paint is fine but it's only been 2 months. Lovely driver

I demoed the 2016 M2 and immediately fell in love, I was a Callaway guy mind you (still to an extent), it was very forgiving, long and accurate (ok, had my 44.5" shaft from the SLDR), but shortly after Ping came through and, well, I am all Ping now...the M2 2016 version, to me, still an amazing driver and probably get a used one just to have it, it is that good...

  • 2 years later...

Reviving an old one, but anyone still gaming this? I have 3 heads that I plan to play for the next decade plus, it's that good for me. I'm thoroughly against carbon tech on the sole of any club, and dislike the shallower faces as of recent. The '16 M2 is my unicorn.
