Odyssey O-Works 7

Hello All,

So I went the other day and messed around with the O-Works Red 7, really liking the putter but not super hot on the red color. I wish they made the all black model in the plain 7 but o well.

So I wanted to know what the difference is between the regular O-Works 7, the WBW 7 and the red 7, besides the color obviously and the different grip on the Red 7. The guy on the phone at Odyssey said the insert on the Red 7 is a new and different insert than the other 2. Can anyone confirm this?

thanks,

Dan

Just not into the s model, didn't get along with the Spider. But from what the customer service guy said at Odyssey the new black and red O- Works models have a different microhinge insert, I think he may be wrong.

I could be crazy but went I tried the black and red 7s, I swear the red felt better to me. A little softer than the black. This is the first I've heard anyone mention it but just my personal experience.

I don't think any of the o-works putters have different inserts, only 1 microhinge currently.

What I have noticed is that the insert feels and sounds different in different heads.

My custom v-line tank does not feel as soft, or sound the same as the #1 Tank I just sold. I am glad.

Man....i just picked up the black 7S.....and its makes a "ping" sound. Ugh!!! Didn't hear it in the store...background noise from the hitting bays I guess. But really noticeable at the practice putting green on my course. Anyone else experiencing this?

this must be something club dependent. i have my black 7s that doesn't do it. i have tried a red 7 and a black 3T in a quiet store and did not hear any ping. either it's not happening or i don't notice it. some say they hear it some don't.

you're referring to the little black "score" line that runs front to back on both sides? i do see that as being the only difference. whether that creates a feel difference or if it was just done just for aesthetics, who knows.

people have reported a "ping" sound with both black and red 7s though.

I had a few wedges to trade in, so I went to look for a 2nd putter. I kinda like the #1 Tank....but can not quite get used to the black/red/white color plus the red Super Soft Grip. I wished there were other color options....

So returned the putter and went with a more quiet/subdued design.... Ping G 'The Doon' sledgehammer putter !!

wait, you're saying the NEW black 7s and the red 7 and 7s have different inserts from each other? or they have different inserts from the previously released o-works 7 that is black and white??

From what Tad said from Odyssey on the phone is that the new 7s black and red have a different microhinge insert from the other O-Works microhinge inserts, he couldn't tell me what the difference is he just said go putt with them in a store.

I find it hard to believe but I am certainly not an expert, just relaying what I heard.

What ball are you using? There is absolutely no ping, and very little audible sound with my ChromeSofts, ProVs, and z Stars

I'll add no ping with chrome soft, q star tour, or nike rzn tour black with two different black 7s putters

I can add to this conversation. I have bought and tried all 3 versions of the O works # 7. The original white/red that I had refinished by Continental golf to satin silver, then the WBW one and most recently the black 7s with slant neck 2 degrees flat. Rolling only on carpet thus far, the micro hinge inserts feel the same to me. I am loving the 2 degrees flat on the slant neck though, it sets up so square and right to my left eye dominant putting stance.

Not sure what I am going do w/ my other two O-works 7... oh wait BST lol

I use the Chrome Soft as well. Same results with the Vice Pro Soft. I'm going back to GG today to see if they have a different one that quieter. I had a two-ball Backstryke that did the same thing...but I was able to shove a foam golf ball in the cavity. I don't see any easy solution for the O Works....and the cotton ball suggestion didn't work either.

???

I know there are two size #7 heads, one larger, one smaller. Does anyone know which the the O-works heads are size-wise? I thought the dots were small and the line large but in the photo in this thread they look the same to me.

Thanks.

Play well.

7s are both the smaller heads

O-works 7 and both O-works 7s (black and red) are the small heads. O-works 7 tank is the bigger head.

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.

I also have a Black 7S and there is absolutely 100% No ting, or ping when I hit putts. I did add xtra weight to the hollow weights, but it didn't ping before adding the weight either. I really love the sound and feel of my black 7s.

I realize that this question is subjective but did you happen to notice any difference or preference with the 3 dots on the topline vs. the solid line of the black 7s? I'm not a huge fan of the red but I like the 3 dots from the pics, but prefer the black head. Just curious your thoughts.
