Your Top 3 Beers?

BeerPerHole

Recommended Posts

Best Newcomer with potential. Old Nation Brewing Co. M-43 N.E. IPA. Multiple hops, Grapefruit and Pineapple overtones, less hoppy than the typical IPA. Somewhat pricy for four 16 oz. cans. But quite delicious.

I came here with M43 in mind. I'm not all that into the craft beer scene but this stuff is phenomenal. Is it wrong part of my reasoning for applying to a job is because it's just a couple miles from the brewery?

I pretty much stick to Miller Lite. I like that I can put them away while taking care of the honey do list without really having to worry about any consequences the next day.

Also enjoy Goose Islands 312. Until I discovered M43 it was my go to for sitting out on the deck while enjoying a cigar or any other time I'm just sitting around relaxing.

I know this is 4 but also want to give a shout out to Old Style. Drank a lot of that back in the college days.

I legit have not heard of like 95% of the beers mentioned in this thread. Granted i'm not a beer guy necessarily.

But like, no one just drinks like, Heineken?

My list is rather provincial. With two world class brewers in the state and a number of other quality craft beers to choose from, don't need to venture far. Plus, believer in supporting MI made craft beers. Not esoteric or difficult to acquire.

1. Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Reliable, easy to find everywhere, consistent quality. Still remains a benchmark IPA.

2. Founder's Breakfast Stout. Chocolate, coffee, roasted grains. Delicious. A cousin to KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout), but easier to find during the release period. KBS is a stunning brew. But to much cult status and difficulty to procure unless your literally standing in line.

3. Founder's All Day IPA - Just like it's name, an IPA that one can drink anytime. A little less hoppy than 2 hearted. Grapefruit overtones. A good session beer and the summer refresher while golfing.

Honorable mention. Bell's Hopslam. Six different Hops, touch of honey, double IPA. An in your face potent (10% ABV) brew. Fantastic on tap. Defiantly not a session beer. Two is max.

When not feeling crafty, or when I just want a cheap beer. Labatt's.

Awesome... in moderation. lol

Cold.

Really cold.

Ice cold.

I'm a very boring beer drinker. I do not IPA's and mirco brew stuff. Give me a Coors light or Yuengling. Ice cold please.

I'm thirsty now. Time to hit the ice box.

Lol. 'Sounds like my brother.

Me: What type of beer do you want?

Him: Mexican beer.

Him: Cold Mexican beer.

In no particular order, my top beers are:

1) Bissell Brothers 'Lux' (Portland, ME)

2) Lawson's Finest Liquids 'Sip of Sunshine' (Warren, VT)

3) Bissell Brothers 'Swish' (Portland, ME)

There are way too many good breweries/beers out there but above are ones I drink a lot and are blown away every time I have them. Other top breweries are: Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, Trillium, Foundation and TreeHouse to name a few. Yes, I am bias to New England breweries but make no mistake, there are tons of phenomenal breweries elsewhere.

1. Goose Island Bourbon County Imperial Stout

2. Revolution Deth's Tar Imperial Stout

3. AleSmith Speedway Stout - Bourbon Barrel Aged Vietnamese Coffee

I haven't had the Speedway but I love this list. I'll sub in the now retired Revolution Gravedigger Billy barrel aged Scotch ale.

I love me a bb scotch ale....Central Waters has a really good one....have found it two bars by coincidence, and a nice coincidence it was!

3. Bud Light (for quantity, not quality)

Lol. Is quality and quantity mutually exclusive?

Not necessarily, but depends on your objective. How quick do I need to get down, or how long do I need to stay upright? Do I care what it tastes like? I mean, I'd love to drink nothing but 2 hearted or hopslam, but I'll be under the table napping it out after a couple of those in rapid succession.

I do not care for craft beers. Prefer ice cold Miller Lite or Bud Light, these are refreshing and not heavy and bitter.I think many drink craft beer and pretend to like them just because it makes them look cool and trendy. Some craft beers I have tasted and some people say they like are down right nasty to my taste.

Hahaha some people on here truly amaze me with their single mindedness.

So, just because you don't like any of the craft beers you have tried then other people must pretend to like them? Come on. You can't honestly believe that.

I used to think this way. I think beer has morphed into being more like wine. A lot is undrinkable, and palettes change over time. I used to love stouts, and hate IPA. Now I'm the other way around. And in both cases I've found folks who home brew. I have yet to find one that's any good. Find what you like and drink it.

I believe we're living in the golden age of beer. Decades ago you had your typical American lagers, a few imports, and, well, not much else. The good thing now is that there are so many choices. The bad thing now is that there are so many choices. Been in a major liquor store lately? It's pretty much like being in a Toys R Us as a kid. 'Don't know where to begin.

I personally don't like overly hopped beers. A few years back it seems there was an arms race over who could brew the hoppiest beer. A number of places seem to have a dozen PA's and IPA's, and not much else. It seems to have cooled down a bit. I think there is something for everyone out there, but it might take a while to find. I love stouts and porters, but not every one is top notch. A good tripel is nice, as is a fruited wit beer on a hot day.

I do wish more places would serve half pints or sample size beers. 'Sucks when you're forced to order a pint, and the beer turns out to be meh.

Impossible to list only 3.

Hops:

- Monkish: any of the Foggy or Bomb series.

- Bissell: Reciprocal.

- Austin St: Florens.

- Equilibrium: Hoptamization.

- HillFarm: Any S&S series.

Stouts:

- Guiness for long haul days.

- Fundamental Obs (still collecting b3 if anyone sees any in Cali disto hit me up)!

- TreeHouse stouts since their hops have taken a turn since Charlton.

Sours:

- my beer cellar has vastly outgrown my wine cellar due to Side Project, Casey, and DeGarde.

My Top 3 from last night were:

1. TreeHouse Double Shot Costa Rica

2. Tired Hands-Hill Farmstead Copy+Paste

3. Trillium Headroom -- still awesome at 9 weeks now.

You are absolutely right on with the "Golden Age" but it's still getting bigger.

Check out the local places that are brewing and distro on their own without the retailers too. All of the best beer in America right now is being found in places with systems as small as 5-10bbls. You pick the style and there are small craft places making a few hundred cases worth a week crushing it. Nothing like being able to get brews literally direct off a canning line and out the door.
