The more I watch that play the more I understand the reasoning. He never lost the ball but did not have control of it as he reached the end zone and landed out of bounds. Still not sure I agree with it but I am coming to understand the logic.

My issue is with replays in general...they don't exist in any youth sports, and the vast majority of college sports. Getting it "right" is taking precedence over common sense and the spirit of the game...some sports, like tennis, have worked out instant replay perfectly. Others it's still a work in progress.

 

Players and coaches make mistakes throughout the game...why do refs have to be perfect?

This exact thing happened to the Cards playing the Eagles just last week. Cards TD was overturned to a Eagles touch back.

Well, you never could block the plate if you didn't have the ball. It just wasn't called.

The law of replay: Nobody likes replay when it works against their team because it "goes against the spirit of the game" but everybody loves replay when it favors their team because "they got the call right".

Almost all codes for baseball and softball require the catcher ,or any fielder, to have the ball, or some codes "about to recieve the ball", in order to block a base.

 

The reason you dont see replay in youth and recreation sports(high school state playoffs have replay at certain levels) is that its too cost prohibitive to setup adequate camera and monitor systems at every school. One of the reason we will not see shot clocks in high school basketball nationwide(some states do have it). Heck, we cant get schools to put down the lines for coaching boxes in basketball in order for coaches to stand. Or make the lines straight or the right side of the base in baseball/softball for high school!

2 summers ago I golfed with Kizer. He wanted to play for cash. We cleaned his clock but never took a penny. He said "I don't remember the last time I took a beating like that." I asked if he forgot the bowl game against The Ohio State where he fumbled and was picked in the red zone.

 

He said i was cruel.

After his last start before he was benched he was asked his thoughts about the game and he said "man I haven't taken a beating like that since i lost to some Jabroni on some golf course in Chicago a couple of years ago. At least I get paid when i lose here though. So that's cool"

I'm sort of over it now but this video shows it the best. The ball was "loose" for a moment but ASJ had possession when his knee was down and touching the pylon. If anything I still think there wasn't enough to overturn the call on the field.

Browns fan here as well. Although I have gone from watching the first half only last year to not watching at all this year. I have to say my Sundays have been much more productive and less frustrating. You may want to try a "no football" Sunday. It really is liberating. Especially for Browns fans.

All pro sports are rigged to some degree. The owners share the profits whether they win or lose. It's entertainment not a real contest. Think WWF.

Browns fan here as well. Although I have gone from watching the first half only last year to not watching at all this year. I am on your path, but i've made it to watching the first half only. At this point, You're just trying to find a few bright spots from individual players out there. Garret, DK, and Peppers (who absolutely sucks at everything right now) but there is no expectation of success over 60 minutes. And honestly, I'm turned off to the NFL in general right now for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is that our team is run by an owner who should be in federal prison IMO, his TV producer wife, a lawyer, and a baseball guy. And Hue Jackson i thought was a great hire, looks lost.

 

I have family who are die hard packers fans, so they've always been my NFC team, No passion in my rooting interest there, but it's nice to have a team you know a little and root for who, you know, has a chance to win a game. And then A Rodgers goes down last week. sigh

Sure it does. They called it a touchdown on the field. All scoring plays are reviewed.

 

The reviewers overturned it on replay, made it a touchback and gave the ball to the Pats.

 

He's saying he didn't see any evidence to overturn the call.
