Kuro Kage XD

Recommended Posts

Finally got some reps in with the XD 60 X today. I would say, if you fit into LOW/LOW shafts but struggle with how boardy many of the feel, this might be your dream come true.

Subjectively, the thing feels great. But, true to TOLLBROS testing and info, it does launch very low and does not spin a ton. I really liked it.

I am weird and actually don't hate the feel of the T1100 60 X which I have been gaming for 2 years, now. But, the XD could make a run at knocking it out of my bag.

Feels like a blueboard, performs like a white. There is a LOT to like about that!

Just FYI - Pluggedingolf.com (a site that does some nice reviews) had a nearly IDENTICAL impression of the XD as Toll Bros and this thread. Toll Bros is much more thorough as usual! That guy is like the gospel in my mind when it comes to understanding and EXPLAINING shafts! Thanks for all your contributions, man.

Pluggedin echoed that it's got great feel but a spin killer that launches low. Surprisingly "playable" for a mere mortal. He also commented on how tight it was in terms of dispersion. I've only had it out once, with a bad back. but I could see that given that a few pulls/pushes fared better than they should have....

There seems to be a real shift in the FEEL of many LOW/LOW shafts these days. Another one that I'm hearing great things about its feel (and plan to try this weekend) is the ACCRA RGP 400. The Tensei White and Orange are shockingly responsive too for L/L profiles.

I am sure they will always make beastly/boardy low low shafts as some people like them. But.....

......is it possible that the days of LOW/LOW = automatically boardy are gone?! Sure seems that way - pretty awesome for guys like me who aren't beastly but have very positive AoA and need to keep launch/spin down. I don't have to hate feel to get the right fit anymore.

Now, if only I could actually get better :)

Gio its a great shaft! IIt was great in an F8+, but I put it in an M3 and it really came to life. It launches lower than KK DC 60TX and Tensei White 70TX for me and I I feel like it spins lower than both. I’ve been following your shaft battle and am very interested to see what you think about it. I’m hitting it to places I haven’t been since my late 30’s...

I unboxed it today in the parking lot of my local - played w it. So far it's seriously deep. It launches higher than expected but I couldn't care less since it just keeps going.

I found its really easy to hit high or low and I can hit a draw if I want without it getting wild, and best of all my misses are a slight falling fade. Just can’t beat that (or at least until I get a Rogue 130...)

If u like the XD u might not like the rogue 130. While the kuro feels incredibly smooth with a powerful release (not a kick) through impact - the rogue 130 is much firmer feedback and distinctly lower ball flight. I agree with you on the kuro being easier to flight high and low tho. It's pretty darn deep - I hit 2 today that were significantly longer than I've hit with my ATX green 65TX.

Maybe it's because I'm new to all this Kuro Kage stuff but is no one else confused by all the different models? There's XT and TX, and watch out for one TX cuz that's different, then DC and not DC, the XD and whether you have the new ones or the ones that play completely different.

No, it’s not because you are new. It’s very confusing. I think even more so for Stiff than X and TX flex. The information on S flex is just as confusing and seems to be more scarce as most people are buying X. That said, the XT60 S flex I have is the best shaft I’ve ever played so worth the reading and research IMO

I ordered the Tour Stiff silver base model (DC I guess you'd call it?) from Mike's on ebay largely because I was too confused by the XD and XT and what was what. I wanted a KK because at least to me the way it feels seems powerful and it's not boardy. Like even with a softer swing it's going to crush the ball. The X felt too stiff, the S was too soft, so I bought the TS which from the stuff I've read is right in the middle, but I can't get the XD and XT out of my head.

I’m permanently watching the same shaft you bought so if that one seems to work, I’d definitely keep my eyes peeled for an XT or XD.

You think they'll play similarly? From what I've read on the XT it's not significantly different that the Silver DC, and the TS is considerably stiffer than the stiff Silver DC. But again, I'm confused.

The TS Kuro Kàge is the silver tini in a slightly stiffer sub flex. The TX flex is based on the original XT profile. Different shafts. The TX flex is much lower launch and spin, just like the XD. Here is the thread with comparison data.

The last two rounds with the XD have really made me a fan. 3 of the longest drives I've ever had on my home course. The XD is like a synergy black that launches higher...(cant believe I just said that)

Gio it's the closest spin shaft to synergy black we have tested so far. It also is a little firmer feeling overall.

Completely agree - the spin is awesome, and if its firmer it's only barely noticeable.
