Not to justify anything, but Smylie Kaufman shot an 83 and 80 at the Honda classic..had he played all 4 rounds he would have been +46 if his bad scoring continued over 4 days haha...is he even a pro? :telephone:

And he wasn’t even hung over and fiddling with a video camera the whole time.

He just posted a new video saying he is giving away all of his "prize money" from coming in 2nd to last in the tournament to Junior Golf or something like that.

I shot 88 yesterday. It was a nightmare.

I don’t care about Rick Shields and his game. His reviews are interesting. But guys don’t try to justify two 88s in a row from a guy who has made golf his life.

At least he is fair play and showed up and turned in all his scores.

Forget golf, Smylie isn't even a name. Unless it's your pet's.

He hasn't gone quiet. He played a round with Fried Egg Golf filming. . .

I would say pretty quiet considering that was on the 13th of feb and he generally posts AT LEAST every other day. He did post today though so maybe he's back at it.

He said he had like 12 videos in the cue to post while he was away but he had technical audio difficulty and thats the reason for the lull.

Smylie would probably bounce back more easily than Rick, but who knows. Also, the conditions this week at the Honda were tough for touring pros (Rick would probably shoot in the 100's... xD). Only a couple out of almost 150 were under par. Sung Kang and many other well-known names were 10+ after 2 rounds. Rick came 7 shots worse than second to last, with most of the field 10 shots clear.

Not bashing the guy anymore but Smylie Kaufman plays a different sport than Rick.

Very true...much different sport. It’s somewhat pointless to continue to discuss this, but...I like Rick’s enthusiasm, attitude, didn’t no card, he loves the game etc. on the flip, he barely hits quality shots in his tests outside of a wedge, so this idea of him competing for any significant level in golf are just a waste of breath.

It's the same sport, just one is much better than the other at it...

This is not intended as a bashing thread. We have all had rounds where it felt like our first.

But I thought pros had some level of constistency cracked.

Ric hit 41 over for 3 rounds in a pro am on a 6300 yard course.

The winner was +2.

How does a pro unravel like that?

He's simply not very good, that's why he makes money from YouTube and sponsors, not playing golf. He's probably a 2 or 3 handicap who had a terrible week

He shot 88 in the first round!!!!

pete finch faired much better, he was +2 in round 1 i believe

There must be a lot of pressure and embarrassment shooting scores like that when your supposed to be an authority on golf and have a huge audience, he's probably more well known than most European tour players

Good youtube videos, decent coach, tournament golf not so much

I literally just read this first post plus a few farther down the page, and thought to myself does anyone actually watch PGA golf? I don't even need to read any further. You must all be awesome internet golfers. Seriously.

Genesis Open - Last place player to make the cut was 22 strokes higher than winner

Honda - Last place player to make the cut was 24 strokes higher than winner

WGC Mexico - last place player was 31 strokes higher than winner

It's like this every single week on all the pro tours. Imagine how much bigger the difference from first to last would be if there were no cuts each week. Not to mention the withdraws each week from players that totally s*** the bed after rd 1. There would be 40 stroke differences all the time.

I don't mean to pick on the first poster, but I can only imagine what the rest of the comments are like. You guys are clueless.

Mr Original Rick Shiels back doing reviews...and on course testing.

More original than the same old folks taking shots at him.

Good for him, look forward to what he'll have coming up.

Or the same apologists. Carry on.

why do you consider people apologists for simply understanding that this can happen. should it? probably not, but it can and did. bad golf happens. people being ticky tacky about what he "calls himself" are the ones being ridiculous

I don’t consider myself an apologist for pointing out that his scores are not all that much worse than you’d expect from a mediocre club pro fooling around with a video camera whilst playing hung over during a family vacation trip.

It would a truly, awesomely horrible score for a serious player making an effort to compete in a tournament. That’s not Rick, this was a combo holiday and content-creation outing for him. And in the end it generated no end of video views and mentions of his game all over social media.

All in all it was a win for Rick, I’d say.

Yes, I wrote further up how so many mid-high handicaps never blowup? Really strange?

When we get on the course, we're all serious about scoring the lowest we can. It's actually one of the preamble rules in the USGA manual.

We're all trying our best. We all make mistakes and can shoot terrible scores, that is, if we know how to score and score correctly. . .

15 pages? If I'm Rick I'm happy that people care this much.

I think it's more about how people can blow up rounds more so than just Rick, but Rick's a nice guy so why not have 15 pages? The thread topic was kind of asking for a lot of responses especially when it's covering larger issues.

That's a rule? My last round I decided before the round that I was only going to hit fades - every shot. I was trying to shoot the lowest score I could with only fades, but if I was trying to shoot the lowest score I possibly could shoot, I clearly would not have done that. Now obviously that's not truly comparable to Ricks round, but people aren't always trying to go as low as possible.

Your example is kind of like 3 putt more than 5 times a round. Looks really suspicious. . .
