Playing golf in Vancouver Canada (NO POLITICS!)

Recommended Posts

Couple rounds this week.  Played Meridian par 3 on 168 with my son and its fun.  Super tight track with pool table sized greens. Conditions are pretty sketchy but for what it is we had a great time.

Also Northview Canal.  Conditions were fabulous, as much as I hate to give them some positive press.  It's still pricey but as of yesterday the conditions are as good as I've ever seen them there.

Anyone play University Golf Course today? Golfer was gunned down in the parking lot. Tarp covering the body, burned out car found a few km away. Whole lot was taped off.

Crazy cheap deal times in the fall for you coastal folks

15 to play Harvest farms..

For that price I would I would almost play in a cow field 😅

46 golden eagle south

28 at  Newlands.. looks like it's for the full size course

Things are starting to shut down up this way from what i hear

If you paid me $28 I still wouldn't play Newlands.

Same here, and add Guildford to that as well.

I know folks who played there today. Like the one you probably saw on TV who was on the 5th tee when they heard the noise, about 10 shots. The IHIT spokespan in Surrey said it was a shotgun kill so I figure either more than one weapon or multiple shooters.

I was on the University practice green by the Museum probably between 10:15 and 10:30.  I thought it was odd that I didn't see anyone  on 6, 7, 8, 9 while I was there on such a beautiful day. After maybe half an hour or so chipping/putting I drove to go to the main parking lot to go to  the range and clubhouse. Of course no entry and I saw all the police cars blocking all entrance and exits  and saw the media cameras.

I originally was going to go before 10am but decided to wait to phone  a local golf shop that opened at 10am.  I  was debating to go first to the driving range and clubhouse or to the chipping/putting green by the museum.

If I had left  a bit earlier and had gone to the general parking lot first...........

My entire trip to University today was sparked by planning to give a particular server a home-baked treat we had discussed before.  I'll certainly drop it off  to her tomorrow...I'm sure they all had quite  a day today for however long they were there!!

that’s a good recap. When I’m healthy, that’s normally where I am on Monday mornings. At that time I would have most likely been on the range or the putting green by the clubhouse.

How many rounds did we all get in this year... I'm around 80

That's a lot for me especially not playing much the last few months and the crappy spring we had

My wife might be right I played a ton this year

Good thing she doesn't come on here as I keep telling her I didn't play a lot this year  😆

About 50 for me. The number surprised  me considering injury time(s), no warm climes travel or dedicated golf trips  and choosing not play much in our wet Spring.

Looks as though price of golf is going up again next year... I looked at a few price lists for 2023 and they are a raising prices again...

I keep saying it... who can afford this crap... I think golf courses are going to get a kick in the teeth in the next couple of years

Once these raising rates hit home

Predictions are for a recession 2023 and luxury activities/items   will no longer be sustainable for many.  So yeah, some courses will be hit hard and course conditions may go down too, like they did to some courses in the Palm Springs area after the economic crunch.  But...I've been told courses in Maui for example would rather have 75 players paying $200 over 150 players paying $100 a round-less maintenance.

Hard to get even  basic dinner for two with a bevy for  less than $100 now.  I bought  a honking  bone-in chicken breast at a butcher yesterday- over 20 bucks. Wow.  1.4 pounds the label says, so it was big, and we can just get two meals out of it with sides for two senior eaters. But I have to say I happily declined the tip option when I paid.

I'm surprised to hear of further price increases.  I'm not sure if courses are just being opportunistic or if they are just trying to cover their increasing overheads.

Speaking for my golf buddies and I we are sort of at our limit, without finding a decent membership deal or just playing less.

All signs are pointing to a construction/housing slowdown next year so that will hurt some incomes as well.

Myspin hit the nail on the head with courses.. They would rather 50 golfers at 200 over 100 golfers at a 100 a round

I think alot of courses were treading water pre covid...

Then along comes Covid and the golf boom.. The problem is they are starting to price out the average golfer with these yearly increases.. I understand everything has gone through the roof..

I think these courses are getting greedy and there going to get a kick in the teeth when this recession or slow down takes full effect over the next 2 years

As the old saying goes shyt rolls downhill

The first thing to go when the money gets tight are the hobbies

I purchase most of my golf in the winter as it's the only way I can afford to play

I have my golf budget put away for 23 and when it's gone I don't play anymore

From the looks of these prices I won't be playing as much next year

Curious to see if all the courses up here will increase prices next year

They all should have pricing out in the next month as I usually start buying at at the end of November

I have a few friends that are on the bubble with current pricing..

I guess we'll see what 23 brings

Yeah, probably I am done here for a bit.

But heading to Palm Springs for two weeks  at the end of November (our first real trip in almost three years-yay). My wife surprised me today that she might play 3-4 times and is good for me to play say half a dozen.  I'm not sure if my shoulders will handle that but it sure gives me an incentive to keep up with the therapy exercises. Fortunately a good friend will be wintered there by then and as an owner he has more booking options than we would.

Anyone heading there should probably look at the Golfvantage card through Taquitz.  Not the best courses but ok (at least the Resort course is)-  but around $40 for a month Advantage card you pay less than half the resident rate and free range bucket per round. Pays for itself in one round  and we'll probably do a couple of rounds there.  The GolfVantage online purchase option linked from the Taquitz homepage an  is annual one (Golfvantage told me one can cancel early and get a refund).  But then I spoke to Taquitz   and the course can arrange it over the phone for just a month for example.  The guy I spoke with suggests to  call after 4pm when they aren't as busy in the shop a few days before we come down and the card will be ready for pickup.

Enjoy the trip. I have looked at that card in Phoenix as well.. They have it at verrado

A friend is heading down for 3 months at the end of December

It seems like a great deal if someone is there for a few weeks or longer

Thought golf was out of the question this weekend. Had cancelled my time and made peace with it. If it weren't for a late evening text from a buddy I wouldn't have known this morning was going to be perfectly fine. Thankfully there were plenty of times available and we were off to MC this AM and had great time out!

I know its kinda off topic but really points out the potential future of recreational costs / demands going forward.

I just brought my boat in for winterization.  Usually the owner of the shop just wants me in and out cause he is full of other, more profitable work.

Well this year he talked to me for over a hour suggesting what else I could do with my boat from a cut polish to bring back the shine, new canvas, modernize my electronics etc etc.

I have known him for over 10 years so I asked him what was up.  He stated flat out that he thinks business will slow down this winter and he is just filing his book with potential work.

Golf courses raising rates and expectations that they will have a similar year to the past two years ........... maybe they should think again.

Yeah, I popped out today to pick up some groceries. I think the average Joe is going to have a lot less disposable income looking ahead.

There is no doubt about it... Had that conversation with a friend today... He has a few bucks to his name... He owns a few rental properties...

Anyhow we were talking about the cost of everything from food to entertainment... He said he is going to cut back this year... He just returned from a few weeks in mexico and thinks that may be his last trip this winter as the prices are out to lunch...

Goes to show you.. its not just the ones that are living pay day to pay that are going to cut back
