Playing golf in Vancouver Canada (NO POLITICS!)

Anyone want to play Northview Ridge next Saturday? Titleist is having their demo day and Northview is the Western Canada Regional Test Center so I want to try the new 917 Driver after my round.

I just played Northview Ridge last week and I would wait until the new cement cart path construction is finished before I would play there again.

The construction is especially bad on the back 9.

Is it affecting play or is it just aesthetics?

For sure aesthetics not good.

However last week when I played #17 had temp forward tees by about 50 yards.

#10 tee box was reduced by 50% because a temporary cart path was rerouted thru the tee box.

Practically every tee box is affected.

Lots of GUR areas especially where the cart path crossed the fairways.

Basically every area within 10 years of the cart path was a GUR.

They are also taking this time to make some changes to the fairways and bunkers. For instance bunkers at the left hand side of #12 approx 70 yards from greens were being renovated and the whole left hand area was GUR.

The greens are not affected at all.

It is certainly a very impressive cart path and will make winter play very good.

Must have gotten a lot worse. I played it two weeks ago and although there was a lot of ripped up turf, it really didn't affect play except that 16 was closed.

I might call them first closer to the weekend and see what tees/holes are closed. I don't mind some maintenance but it's a high end course so I want to enjoy my round. I know the course well and I usually play well there.

Otherwise I'll go play Morgan Creek

Thanks golfnuck. Will report back how it's looking after Thursday's round.

Thanks. Titleist fitting day filled up in less than 24hrs so I'd didn't get a spot but I've already made arrangements to play out in the valley so looking forward to hearing how it it.

I didn't sign up for it this year, probably will next. How decent were the green fee discounts?

Discounts were 10-25% depending on which time you booked, usually on peak rates. The card cost $150 at the golf show, and they threw in a dozen chrome soft balls with the free round that is included, the cost of the card is basically free.

sorry, what card is this?

I'm playing my BC Match Play round at Morgan on Wednesday. Played there yesterday and it was perfect as usual. Also expensive.

Good luck tomorrow. Course is in immaculate shape.

Golfsmith just filed for bankruptcy, since it is owned by Golftown do you guys think that Golftown might be next to go?

Private equity Ontario provincial retirement fund has scooped up GT and it will be carved off the carcass of GS.

Yeah, joethep21, there is more detail on Deal or No Deal forum (as of yesterday when I last looked) and lots more detail if you look to Mr Google.

Some GT stores will not be purchased as part of the deal. The articles say there now are 55 GT stores in Canada, With our population and climate and short season for most of rthe country? House of Cards.

I often wonder how the golftowns in my area stay open. Huge stores but never particularly busy. Not a great sign. However I expect the price of golf around here is not going down anytime soon.

Played the Ridge today. In short would not pay to play it with my own money (as opposed to the firm's dime) until the cart path renos are done.

The Front 9 seemed fine, but the back 9 was being dug up heavily. It will look great when it's done, but it's like a big construction site right now. 16 is still closed and instead we played a little temp par 3 after 7. The tees on 17 are about 100 yards up so the hole plays a silly 290 yards. Fairways and greens were in good condition overall.

How's the drainage at Pagoda Ridge? Playing Monday morning in an away game with my men's group. While it looks to be much better weather by then, concerned about course condition going all that way from the Westside.

Plus I'll probably decide to take a riding cart with this darned persistent chest cold. I guess there is a probability to be confined to cartpath only after this rain?

Probably the best draining course in the area IMO. They built the entire course on a base of sand.

I play there all the time in the winter because of it.

I played Morgan Creek yesterday afternoon after the rain we'd just had. The course was still in excellent shape, no standing water with the exception of a few bunkers here and there.

Tee'd off at 3:15, wound up being a beautiful afternoon for golf.

It was the year end playoff for our golf association, and lets say I didn't do too well lol. Played Kings Links on Saturday, and it conditions were not bad at all no rain but wind was a factor. I had a horrible start to my round, until the 6th hole, Par 3 144 to the flag I take dead aim at the pin strike it good, I don't see it land as there is a mound at the front of the green. All I hear is a massive yell from the next tee box guys jumping up and down saying the ball is in the hole!! My first ever hole in one!

Anyone looking to play tomorrow (Wednesday). Preferrable AM start?

Sorry, working in the day. Where you playing?

Was willing to play anywhere in or around Vancouver but at this point looks like I'll be heading to Fraserview as per usual.

Ended up playing at Fraserview. Big mistake. Greens were running about 12 today and whoever set the pins was pure evil. There were at least 5 pins even the USGA wouldn't have set. I 3 putted 5 times and I'm a good putter.

Hmmm...thanks for the heads up ...I'm playing there tomorrow. Will watch out. But I'd rather them be playing fast than slower than usual as they were there earlier this year. Will be my last "summer" round at Fraserview as they are punching greens next week. Sadly I have to play golf in Maui for three weeks in October. :taunt:
