Why Don't More Players Use Graphite Iron Shafts?

It could be in my head, but I feel like I can tell where I mishit the ball on the face easier with the graphite, because I feel the contact without the harshness.

 

It's nice how much more you can notice when the pain isn't there to get in the way.

There are some good replies here. I do best with 95-105 steel, but want to switch to graphite. But the graphites in that 90-something range are very different from the lighter graphites. I was intrigued by the post(s) talking about having to get used to the feel of the heavier graphites. I played a round with a demo set of Recoil 95 F3 (R flex) and they were the worst feeling iron shaft I've ever played. Same thing in a Mizuno test club. They felt so dead and like I just could not load them at all. I wanted to love them because they should have been just what I've been wanting.

 

I'm having a hard time believing I could get used to that feel! It was wrecking my swing.

 

The Fuji Pro 95 sounds very interesting. I read it to be a lightweight shaft in which they've added an 18 gram weight layer in the lower mid section. To me that sounds like it will have the nice feel of a 75 gram graphite, with the weight of 95. (They also have a 75 and 85). Also, they are lower torque than many of the other graphites. Not as low as steel, but still.

 

It's $45, which until recently would have repulsed me. But as Chisag pointed out above, that is where the market is going.

It's amazing how many steel shafts are in the upper $30s and higher. It's one reason I took a shot at the NV105 last year, they weren't all that much more than a set of DG.

Give me a really good graphite shaft at the cost of steel and I would play it. Also, there are just not enough options of good graphite shafts out yet, but it is getting there.

If you want a nice controllable graphite iron shaft with a nice feel, there is a set of 8 (3-pw) ALDILA VS Proto 85 R flex shafts on the bay right now. I tried them a few years ago but they were lighter than I liked. Good feel though.

They will, give it time. 2017 order of merit leader for Asian tour is a young Bomber from Malaysia who plays recoil prototype 125. He converted me to them. More will follow suit it's just a bit taboo still for pros.
