MacGregor Tony Hsieh irons??

Recommended Posts

Maybe the lighting in the photos tricks my eyes but reminds me of Golden Ram Tour Grind's a bit. Great looking irons!

You know I have seen a lot of Macgregor clubs over the years. I was looking through the pics at the faces and trying to figure out the face shape. They look smaller than any VIPs and then when I read your post I said WOLA he is correct. The backs look like the muscle is shaved down some from Non 20 th Muirfields or VIPs. But then again it seems to me from the photos that they may have added the weight to the sole because those soles look broader or thicker than a VIP or even a FC-4000. But then again from the posted photos and my old eyesight I may be wrong--- Anyhow beautiful irons

I agree. They look more like they were ground out of Pro-82s head like the Muirfields, rather than forged with the muscle in it like the Muirfield 20ths.

Beautiful either way.

Do the irons also have Carbon Graphite shafts? That would be pretty unusual in itself.

Do the shafts show the name of the original manufacturer? I have a really similar looking shaft in my Mizuno persimmon driver ("Blondie" because she's both Blonde and Atomic), but there's no label on it. I'd like to know more about it, if possible.

Best photo of the shafts I can get. Only says MacGregor on them.

And yes all irons and woods have the graphite shafts.

How can Macgregor go from making irons like these to where they are now, such a shame

Well for all practical purposes they are dead now. Actually the demise of Macgregor with Golfsmith is a sore point with me. I can remember right before Golfsmith closed the wife and I were in the Myrtle Beach store. Now she is trained by me to spot Macgregor and Hogan stuff at the flea market or thrift stores. She came up and told me "there is some Macgregor stuff over there and they have golf bags too" I growled at her "that ain't no real Macgregor stuff that is :censored2: " I did look to see if by any chance there were any Pro 82 heads or such around no dice. Showed her the Made in China tag on one of the bags. One of the sales guys a young kid was puzzled. I told him you wanna see some real Macgregor stuff here is my card give me a call. Actually he did that weekend and came by. I showed him my old staff bag that says right on the brass tag "Macgregor made in the USA" He was amazed he never knew. Told me thanks a million for the education. Hey gotta spread the true Macgregor gospel. I have also branched out and spread the real Hogan gospel too. Had two good Hogan gospel teachers in Augie and Hogan Apex Blades too

Thanks BIG STU!

Augie and I share similar beliefs about classic forged blade designs.

The irons really do look a bit like MacRams....

Hey why not? After all I do have some Machogans even if I had to build them myself :taunt:

Seeing these make me wish I hadn't sold(for a tidy profit) my Pro 82's.

Last of the great Macgregors IMHO----- BTW do not even mention the words Pro 82 in some of the main equipment forums you will get the Miura Fan Boys started. Man would love to find a set of those heads so I could put a set of Apex shafts in them that would be one smooth hitting set of sticks. I never owned any but I have hit some with S-400 Tour Issue shafts in them and even those were smooth

Anyone got a rough value of the set as is?? Ballpark even

I have no idea--- Classic clubs are tricky and I do not have any idea how many sets were made--- And I think (someone correct me if I am wrong) the rules of WRX does not allow us to put value on stuff in this forum. I know we can state how much we actually paid for something

Got to see a set of his Ram Grinds up close and personal at the old Kemper Open in Charlotte many moons back. Those were the smallest blades I have seen even to this day. I had often thought of taking some POS cast blades and grinding them down for training clubs. Would be a lot of work ,grinding wheels and lead tape involved at that stage

IS the Pro-82 an actual club designation? I thought it was the name for the blank the Muirfields were made from (as well as some other Mac clubs). I've got a full set of the Muirfields (1-SW), but I have to say I prefer the feel of Muirfield 20ths. Not that I'd kick either set out of bed for eating crackers, mind you.
