My Tom Slighter Experience

I've owned a lot of putters over the years. From OTR putters from Scotty, Ping and oddyssey. And customs from TP Mills and Byron. (Although not originally ordered by me).

 

Having played many putters I was finally ready to order my first custom putter. I figured with my first child coming this spring if I didn't do it now I probally never will.

 

I chose to reach out to Tom Slighter first. With his great reputation in both full customs and aftermarket work I thought he would be the one to go with.

 

I sent my first email and Tom answered about 20 mins later. Toms communication was like none other I've experienced in this market. It felt more like texting with a friend at times. Usually replying within a half an hour and rarely taking more than a couple hours to reply. Truly a pleasure to communicate with and a true gentleman.

 

After a little back and forth we were down to business. I was after was a fairly simple design that's not so easy to find. I provided Tom a rough sketch of an anser 2 style blade (similar to his tacoma). Tri-sole with a thin topline in the 330-335g range. Having given him this info he asked if it was ok if it were to be a handmade putter which I had no issues with. With the above criteria being the important parts of the putter I wanted Tom to put his creativity to the rest of it.

 

From the first email to receiving the putter took less than 5 weeks and that's with shipping to Canada. Tom stayed in contact and sent progress pics along the way.

 

That's about all I got. Just a big shout out to Tom For being a pleasure to work with. And for anyone who's ever considered goin through with the process I can't say enough good things about how great it was to work on this project with him.

I've never dealt with anyone so accommodating, friendly and enthusiastic... he built a Needle mallet with complex 'Spider' graphics that's been in the bag for a decade and a lighter backup a few years later.

 

FYI Kaexo - Lamont visited Tom when he wanted to start making putters; not surprising they hit it off. Two of the best people there are!

I love the Tacoma that Tom built me for in 2006, still my favorite blade putter.. I remember him keeping me well informed during the build and addressing all of my issues. He is a perfect gentleman and artisan.

Had Tom weld me up a JT flow neck, he's an absolute pleasure to deal with. Man has one H-ll of a motor, "Sleepless in Seattle".
