P790 UDI vs Original UDI

Just left PGA store after trying a KbS proto shaft and I think I will go with the 85-S. It was a great mid flight and felt very stable for an 85. It was in an epic hybrid 18* so I expect the spin to drop in my 2 UDI. I was surprised the tensei white 90 didn't blow me away, but I am a low spin player so they recommended I not use it.

 

Probably going to order an 85S today and hopefully get to try it by the end of next week.

To elaborate. 115ss driver. Mid spin and launch player with moderate to aggressive transition.

 

I had it with GD Tour Ad 95x. Very low spin. Felt too loose. Too low launching. Shortest carry. Shortest total.

 

Had it with modus 120x. Mid flight and mid low spin. Middle carry, longest total

 

Swapped in steel fiber i95x. Mid flight. Mid spin. Highest carry. Middle total.

 

Keeping steelfiber for now and playing as 3w replacement. The launch and spin run well in fairways. I can hit it thru the wind. But I have some chance of holding a green

I have the 85X in my Apex hybrid but I think the shaft is too light for me and the X is just a smidge too stiff. Thinking the 95g in S+ flex would be killer in the UDI.

 

I intend to give the stock shaft a shot first though

I really like the stock C taper light in the original UDI. There's a reason it is still in a few tour pro's bags including TW. The club is a cannon and more forgiving than the new model imo.

How did you get to try so many shaft options out?! Did a local shop have a tester head to hit? Or did you continuously pull shafts & glue in new ones to test out?

 

I haven't seen a single 2 UDI at any local golf shop to buy, let alone a demo to hit.

Anyone try the KBS TGI 110 in the 790 UDI? I feel the stock shaft is just too light for me. My irons are PXLZ 6.0's at 120gr.

 

I didn't try it in the 790 but I just put the 100 in it. I also have a TGI 95 in a TP UDI 3. It's not bad. It plays much tighter than the KBS Hybrid IMO. Gives a mid-ish flight that just carries. It's VERY easy to hit from the grass and tee. Balance point is very steel like too so you don't need to go long with it. Probably is too high spin for windy locales but if you're looking for a good all around shaft for all lies, the TGI is it. I'm not sold yet on it because my HB6 is still king in my bag but I may put it into a 790 3i to see how that compares.

I love the original UDI's, i have 3 of them and will have a hard time giving them up!

 

790 looked great but not trying it and newest one doesn't interest me!

Which of the KBS graphite options would give me low launch, low spin in my new P790 UDI? I am getting excellent results from the HXRDUS Black, but the feel is a little dead and I would also prefer 95-100 gram. Appreciate insights from other KBS users.

I tried KBS 85 and 95 proto hybrid and those are mid launch and low spin (for me). The 85 felt a bit more "loadable" while the 95 felt a little stiffer. To me, the hzrdus 85 stock felt kind of a middle ground in terms of "loading." Both shafts are great but I think the KBS had slightly more feel.

 

I only swing the stiff versions of those two, but have heard the 105 is a beast almost RIP alpha 105 level. I did not try it though.

I was scared of the hazardous shaft and just got mine with the PX 6.5 that I play in the rest of my set. Now, It just might be my favorite club in the bag.
