So, this guy is in BlacKKKlansman. And, he's basically introduced going, "sheeeeeeit". It got a lot of laughs in the theater in Baltimore. I supposed other places, too, but that was my experience.

deshampoo has won at every level. after the northern trust, he's now a ryder cup lock. cobra has repeatedly said that demand for one length irons and hybrids has exceeded their expectations. we're gonna see a lot more one length options than the current offerings. my bet is on ping as the next major company to put out together a set.

the kicker: plenty of kids are gonna start playing with one length sets moving forward (including my boy).

I don't understand.

Thousands of golfers through hundreds of years - including the best ever, and the best currently -- have used variable length irons and one guy comes along and people go, "oh, that's a great idea." (he also does all this other stuff no one is copying).

Is it that people think he's smarter than everybody else?

Or is this idea of "one length, one swing" so attractive people that they'll just jump on it the second the first pro golfer validates it?

Was intrigued before DeShampoo came along and with Domes code they're down to $252 now making it even harder not to buy.

Is it that people think he's smarter than everybody else? no. for me, it doesn't really have anything to do with him. outside of the golf media, i'd wager that his "smarts" aren't even discussed.

Or is this idea of "one length, one swing" so attractive people that they'll just jump on it the second the first pro golfer validates it? can't really speak for others here, but i wanted to try them because i'm essentially working on one swing (and the variations of that swing). less practice time to groove it. i got my one length used from boogs prior to BAD winning 2x this year.

sidenote: the OL didn't work for boogs at all.

eagle, you make your son learn to play golf with his grandmother's old clubs like the rest of us.

That's the natural progression of things:

First set - Grandmother's clubs

Second Set - Mom's clubs

third set - Dad's old clubs

By the fourth set, your dad is giving you the set he currently plays with and is buying himself a new set.

It's funny that you mentioned Ping because IMO, they'll actually be the last company to get into it. They were pretty much the last guys to get into adjustable drivers.

It depends, I guess, on whether we see single length as a marketing gimmick, or as a genuine improvement in golf club tech. I don't need to express which side I fall on.

Also, shouldn't have to be said, but i do believe single length could totally be the right choice for a lot of people, people with a certain approach to the game or certain swings. They're not "wrong" or "bad". I just get a sense that people think that because the only golfer who uses them didn't major in "sports communications" that they might as well be endorsed by Albert Einstein.

I wont speak for anyone else but I continute to use them only because I know it bugs the holy F out of City.

current mainstream one length iron set providers:

cobra

fringe one length providers:

edel

sterling

pinhawk

maybe you're right about ping not jumping in. i just imagine they have more in-house engineering capabilities than some of the other manufacturers. i would have said taylormade, but that was before they got bought.

They may work for some folks but i refuse to use them strictly because i cant stand Deschamboohoohoo

i think there are more than a few guys who have your exact sentiment. it's a doubleedged sword. deshampoo simultaneously validates -and hinders- the sale of these style of clubs.

his personality leaves a lot to be desired.

it took me a long time to adjust, probably 10+ rounds. i really liked the longer 9i and PW straight away which was a huge surprise. playing 108 holes in 3 days in pinehurst this spring was the litmus test for the OL clubs, and they passed with flying colors.

I'm not sure why you get that sense. Outside of the golf media, I have literally never encountered a single person who thinks BAD is actually smart, never mind one who based their club selection on his insanity.

Most people's interpretation of BD is entirely colored by the golf media. I don't know who you know, but I've heard it plenty, just, "he's supposed to be really smart" or "they say he's a genius".

He might be actually smart, I don't know. He definitely seems to have a real systematic approach to improvement, which is more than a lot of people can say, and he's willing to try original ideas.

But, people are placing a lot of that "intelligence" on the fact that he majored in Physics in college. First of all, anyone can major in physics. Second, it's not like he did original research (again, maybe he would have if he went to graduate school in it). Third, I don't even think he graduated, right? I know he left the golf team, then he turned pro in early 2016. I think he left school altogether.

City didn't you once play with a putter whos sole "feature" was that it stood up on its own? Did it make putting easier? Did it improve your stats? I dont think anyone on tour was using them. Was it because the act of actually holding onto your putter was so arduous that you couldn't possibly do it yourself?

Or is it more...like everyone else...that you just like to tinker and try new things and who knows when you are going to hit on something that works for you no matter how silly it may seem?

City is the guy playing hickory shafts in his irons asking why they need to change to steel shafts, this has worked just fine for hundreds of years, #TEAMHICKORY. Or the guy playing a steel shaft in his driver asking why he would possible need to go to graphite. Or why do I need to use anything other than these grips that are made of thin, slick wraps of leather - these have literally been around hundreds of years.

I have an astronomy degree with a physics minor. Can't say it's done wonders for my golf game, though.

The primary feature of that putter for me was that I liked the swing weight of it. You couldn't get that putter to stand if it wasn't in laboratory conditions.

But, I just don't know the tone you assumed I had in my post towards single length irons, and I'm not trying to guess.

I literally wrote, "Also, shouldn't have to be said, but i do believe single length could totally be the right choice for a lot of people, people with a certain approach to the game or certain swings. They're not "wrong" or "bad".

But, somehow this passed through the "things City says" filter and turned into "it's bugs the holy F out of City that I play these irons". To everyone, I could not be more apathetic about the irons you play, I assure you.

I can look at those irons and see a marketing gimmick (hand-in-hand with the marketing of Bryson) and still think they're a good club for some people.

Astronomy major?

Yep. Bachelors. Could not find a more useless degree.

I was a poly sci major with an astronomy minor. I barely graduated from college though so I can safetly say it did / has done nothing for me.

I remember finding out some of my work was going to be published in the Harvard Astrophsycial Journal - which was awesome until I realized there were about 40 "co authors" that I had never heard of. So disappointed.
