They're Recoil 110F4. They play very similarly in flex and flight to most mid-weight stiff flex steel shafts.

 

I might could be interested in them for my son. Right now he's playing my old irons, Mizuno JPX 800's with regular flex graphite shafts. He's now several clubs longer than me (GRRRRR!!!) so probably needs stiffer shafts.

Cobra does have one thing going for it that Taylormade doesn't. Someone on tour has won with their single-length irons. I don't remember any tour pro using a mini driver.

 

But of course Fabb doesn't recognize that. He thinks a mini driver is the same thing as a single length iron!

if you're looking for used, you should be able to buy DC's F8 one length's for just slightly more than you'd pay for those. the downside is that the F8's wear much worse than the OG F7s.

 

I think they actually look alot better once I hit them with the buffing wheel, taking off the crappy chrome was a good idea. The chrome Cobra used was such garbage.

deshampoo has won at every level. after the northern trust, he's now a ryder cup lock. cobra has repeatedly said that demand for one length irons and hybrids has exceeded their expectations. we're gonna see a lot more one length options than the current offerings. my bet is on ping as the next major company to put out together a set.

 

the kicker: plenty of kids are gonna start playing with one length sets moving forward (including my boy).

deshampoo has won at every level. after the northern trust, he's now a ryder cup lock. cobra has repeatedly said that demand for one length irons and hybrids has exceeded their expectations. we're gonna see a lot more one length options than the current offerings. my bet is on ping as the next major company to put out together a set.

I wouldnt count on any other OEMs jumping on the single length train though, as much as I wish they would. I still think the hardest part is getting demo clubs out in people's hands. You cant just hand them one iron to try. Edel has a really good program where they will ship you three irons to use for three weeks - if you like them you can send them back and they put the $150 towards a new set. If you dont like them you send them back and get your $150 back.

With the Bandon trip coming up, I've been toying around with the idea of trying to groove a... wait for it... controlled hook (oxymoron?) that I can hit with longer clubs.

 

I was on the range before the round with City last week, and I asked him if he thought it might be useful to come up with a low shot I can hit off the tee for the trip. The answer was "probably not" since I don't really hit a high ball anyway. After a little back and forth, I teed up a driver and tried to hit the controlled hook. Boom - first try was about a 35 yard slinger that couldn't have gotten more than 20ft off the ground. I laughed, and put the D back in the bag.

 

Fast forward to hole 10, and after a long wait on the tee, I'm primed to try it again for some major shiggles. It wasn't as good as the first one I hit, but shockingly I was able to hit a very similar shot.

 

Now I don't think it's something I'd actually hit with the D on courses around here, but I could see trying to adopt it with the hybrid.

He said he's playing pacific twice. So #4 and #13 are the two holes it's most likely to happen on. #4 he'll start it at the ocean, and #13 it'll finish in the ocean.

More importantly, work on hitting some lower/partial wedge and short iron shots. If its windy, you arent getting away with any high ballooning shots.

 

I would point you to a couple good lesson clips I used but the mini-driver comment was uncalled for.

I don't understand.

 

Thousands of golfers through hundreds of years - including the best ever, and the best currently -- have used variable length irons and one guy comes along and people go, "oh, that's a great idea." (he also does all this other stuff no one is copying).

 

Is it that people think he's smarter than everybody else?

 

Or is this idea of "one length, one swing" so attractive people that they'll just jump on it the second the first pro golfer validates it?
