I like these new Mizuno Irons.

I like most Mizuno irons, but I don't understand what this extra piece on the back of the 919 Forged is all about. It looks likes someone took half of a money clip and welded it (epoxied it?) onto the back and didn't even fit it in well. There's that little corner that is kind of pushing on the bottom flange.

What is up with that?

At least wrx has learned to stop watermarking every single thing they upload to the site. God was that annoying.

Had two tough birdies tonight in our mens league closeout event. Turned into an impromptu memorial service for a buddy that died in a car accident on Friday. Gotta be honest, I dont really deal with situations like that very well. Guy was in his early 30s, wife is 8 months pregnant with their first.

I feel your pain brother. I'm out of town tending to my grandmother who is about to pass, and received word yesterday that one of my good friends, a man of 32 who was supposed to stand next to me at my wedding in October, is laying brain dead in a hospital from a probable aneurysm. I spoke to him hours before it happened. I am wrecked. Not a place to vent but I have no where else to put it at the moment. Hug your family, make the memories, take the trips. Do not put things off.

I have a question, curious to hear takes on it:

Could you be putting well if you aren't having a lot of birdie chances drop? Or is putting only about making putts?

Scenario: Ive had only 12 birdies in the span of 25 weeks with league play, and of that maybe about a handful were in my opinion "good chance" (10 feet and in vs longer and more geared on 2 putting). Ive had numerous lip outs and tap in pars, and my handicap is sitting at a 4 so I feel Im playing well for me, but just a bit frustrated. Also analyzing other normal rounds play, I tend to have many more chances, and birdie.

My take: Id say I putted fine during this season and the problem is that I need to get my approaches closer, and a less conservative approach. I feel in my matches, I tend to just go center green, and focus on 2 putts vs really trying to ram home longer birdie putts.

What say y'all?

I've always told myself if you feel like your stroke is good it's only a matter of time before they go in. Maybe focusing a little bit more on reads but if you're hitting the way you want to they'll start going in.

Will be indulging in this tonight. Taking GoTime’s advice to heart. Enjoy life now.

Having seen BubbaGump’s play up close, I can say with authority that he is a very good putter. I’ve also had my own putting woes recently.

I think you’ve done a great job of self-diagnosis.

Eagle math: Conservative Mentality + Proximity to the Hole = Easy pars, less birdies. Probably wins you a lot of matches in league play.

I think if you could probably get more aggressive on your approach shots/putting lines on particular holes (is this at Bristow Manor). There are just some holes out there where Par is a very good score (7 comes to mind).

I think you can be a good putter and have things that don't fall for a round, or a week, or a month. The odds are against you. But 12 birdies over 25 9-hole matches is pretty low for someone as good as you. That's a long enough stretch to probably rule out bad luck.

Sounds like you aren't sure if it's because you aren't putting well or because you aren't stuffing it close. Only way to figure that out is to count it. Take a few rounds and keep track of how long (you think) your first putt is on each hole. Then you can start putting up a profile for your make percentage from different distances and see if it's good or bad.

As a worse golfer, one stat I keep track of each round is "long" 3-putts. Totally subjective, and I don't put it anywhere after the round to keep long term stats and know if I'm getting better. But basically if I leave myself 60 feet away, or am on a ridiculous tier, I'll mark an "L" next to my putt count for that hole. Then I can at least look at it and know whether that 3-putt was due to bad putting or just a bad approach. You could do something similar in reverse, and mark "good" 2-putts vs "bad" 2-putts. It's not as useful as tracking distance, but it's easier.

In Richmond for a work event....= VA distillery event sampling what each place makes, at a art mueseum, getting paid....can’t complain. Now at Station 2 for what I was told is the best burger in town till traffic dies down. Marketing push this year to capture business win Breweries, vineyards, distilleries in VA DC MD.

Thanks man, yeah its at Bristow. The league is kind of skewed toward high handicappers, so its incredibly easy to lose to a 23 hc on 9 holes when you're giving 2 strokes a hole and he goes on a bogey or double streak. So plodding away with boring golf is usually the best bet you have to try and win with that.

Once I get back from the sandbox and its back to fun rounds Im looking forward to giving more aggressive approaches and play a shot and see what happens.

I think thats all really good points and a good thing to keep track of to really figure it out. Its difficult to decipher because all in all my scores are consistent and Im happy with them, but I feel theres a few more out there with regularity I could be getting. Im going to start tracking it similar to how you mentioned, and paying more attention to it.
