I'm 99% sure it used to be called something else, that I've played it, and there was nothing particularly memorable about it. Some funky holes, maybe.

Yeah, but YEARS ago, with the Pine Ridge Men's Club. I can't remember jack squat about playing it. The only thing that sticks out is that there was this par 3 playing about 130 and I hit one to like 30 feet. We were the first group through and I wasn't even going to put my name down for CTP, but I did and it held up.

 

Out near Westminster is one of the worst courses in the world, River Downs. It has maybe 6 holes that are in the top 10 of worst holes I've ever played. And, it might not even have been so bad if it was well marked. . .and I mean like having a Blue Plaque, and a yellow rock to mark the white tee box. . .stuff like that.

 

There used to be another one out there that had 3 9's. For the life of me, I can't remember what it was called. It was horrible also.

 

But, I don't remember hating Westminster National and I do remember hating those other two, so that's good.

played pb dye today. fairways are great. tee boxes are nice and green, but holes and divots galore. greens are very green, but again, divots galore, spike marks everywhere. very disappointed.

Maybe I didn't hit enough fairways on Sunday (likely), but I didn't get the sense that there were a ton of divots. I did fix a lot of ball marks on the greens. Thoughts on how the greens are rollings? Consistent, but not fast IMO.

I played the front a few weeks ago. It’s not a special Course by any means, but there was one hole on the front that had the narrowest tee shot I have ever played. Trees on both sides so it feels claustrophobic. Greens were okay. It’s not one I’m rushing back too, but it was decent enough.

When it’s in nice condition it is top notch there. That area in Clifton is a bit swampy and they’ve struggled this season keeping the grass growing. I played it back in April/May and it was in really good shape but have heard it’s been deteriorating the rest of the season. I play at twin lakes a lot which is right down the street and they have the same problems right now with a lot of fairways and tee boxes looking like garbage.

That makes sense, its been a brutal summer for courses with the rain and such, probably was just a bad timing on my part I guess. The layout and scenery kind of reminded me of Generals Ridge in Manassas Park. Where else do you play in fairfax county? Ive still been unable to find a go to course to play. Yeah i was bummed I wasted a golf day on that course.

 

I know most courses have struggle with this abnormal “summer”. Hell, private courses have been just as bad.

 

However, I could of stayed closer to home and played somewhere cheaper. But got to play with a friend so that is starting to be more important than the courses.

Played yesterday afternoon and watched an older gentleman hit a missile into a flock of geese. He caught one square and the goose acted like nothing had happened. Guy was distraught and I couldn't stop laughing. Playing Westminster tomorrow at 10:52 hoping to score well. It seems extremely short.

Where else do you play in fairfax county? Ive still been unable to find a go to course to play. I more often than not end up going west to gainesville etc to play way more than I do around here.

 

I havent played Westfields in years because of the conditioning. No matter the year, the condition goes to S anytime after July. Just seems like they spend way less money on maintenance than other places - but man the attitude of everyone that works there, you'd think you had pulled up to Augusta. The fairways usually end up just being covered in unhealed divots and on certain holes, there are collection areas in the fairway that essentially become unplayable. Dont think its just this year, its like that mid-late season. I still go there for all my fittings but I dont play there.

 

If you guys are looking for other places in FFX County, Twin Lakes is a good spot. I havent played there this year but for a muni its usually in good shape and they have two courses. Any time you guys want to meet up there let me know. Burke Lake is an 18 hole par 3 with a really great range, its my go to range esp on weekend mornings.

 

Pulled the clubs out last night for the first time since Scotland, two weeks of not touching a club. My confidence is just sky high right now. Funny though, on the trip I played a lot of shots with the ball mid stance or even a little back, shaft lean, nice easy swing. Playing shots like that now make me feel like I'm getting such consistent contact.
