MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

An interesting think I heard about women and tee lengths from some architect, probably on fried egg, is that there is frequently vigorous push back from women when they try to make the course shorter for them. I don't remember if it was Doak or Coore or whoever else, but he highlighted it as one the biggest challenges when designing a course.

Wife and I play a lot with a number of couples on Wednesdays and once a month in a 9 and dine. I have never heard one women say the course is to short. Wife hits the ball about 135 off the tee. On the inside nine every par 4 is a par 5 and so on for her. The daughter can hit most the par 4's in two because she can hit the ball 200 off the tee. Women's tees should be in the 5000 yd range. Even our state Ladies team which has won a number of state titles struggles on the 18 hole course due to length of holes at SPCC. The white tees are 6590 and plays every inch of that.

VTVERF women don't play any slower then the men at SPCC. The young drunk kids that think they are Pro's are always the slow ones. Weekend rounds are 4 hrs 15 min max. Weekday rounds 3 1/2 hours as a foursome.

I dont know when 6500-6600 became what most golfers were blindly shooting for. I played with a group late in the fall at Laurel Hill with guys who couldn't possibly play the white tees - because, white tees. Had to play the blues. The blues at LH are 6,750 ish - and its a long 6,750. Needless to say, they were miserable.

Agreed. If you take Rory, Tiger, DJ and Brooks in 3 or 4 of the majors, you're not going to get a leg up on anyone in the field. For me its worse because a missed cut is -350k on a regular week and 1.5x that in majors.

I play the white tees mostly wherever I go because I don't hit it far off the tee. I usually try to take a look at the par 4's and if there are a bunch that are 400+ yards, then I'll move up a box. Or will play a hybrid mix of tees if it's on the scorecard. I have to hit two perfect shots to get on a 400 yard par 4 in regulation, which usually does not happen. If it's a 360 yard hole, I can go driver-7/8 iron, which is great. But I'm not hitting too many greens ever from 180+ out. The game is way more fun for me when I have 160 or less into par 4's and am not forced to play them as a par 5.

I just read through the article on Tiger doing ball testing for Bridgestone. I think I remember having read something similar before. It's not a data driven article, but it's kinda cool to get a glimpse of what makes the guy so good. It's striking that his attention to detail is reportedly beyond that of most of the other pros and doesn't manage to come off as a d-hole like Bryson. That is probably impacted by his level of play

I could have seen taking him at the TPC (because of the purse) or the Masters last year, both before the PGA.

I'm talking specifically about Brooks here. . .not a generic counter play.

Brooks is a special case. . .he -- historically -- plays WAY better in majors than non-majors. . .last year he had a 4th, two 2nds and a win in majors and was much worse (on average) in non-majors and he even came out and said that he didn't care about other tournaments as much. So, he plays better in higher money events and someone is picking him here. I just don't get it.

I would have taken Tiger or Rory -- for instance -- way before Brooks in this event. They I wouldn't have taken any of them, but if you made me choose I would have.

Now, if someone has a real good reason for the pick, I'm open to that. . .like maybe someone thinks he's motivated to get his #1 ranking back, or they've got an angle like he does better after not playing, or they're going to burn every horse in an attempt to win Q1. But, as a play for the year, I just don't get it.

If I was in it again this year, that would have been my strategy. .. just try to crush Q1, and then I'm in a position of everyone trying to catch me. Maybe I get the option of picking an unexpected "hot hand" at some major instead of using an off-guy early.

THAT"S WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT!!! TENDIES FOR DAYZ!!!!!!

(In actuality, VTNerf, I'm currently an avid follower of Reddit/r/wallstreetbets, which is composed of 21 year old college seniors who take every last dime they have and buy long call options on Tesla, AliBaba, and their newest infatuation, VIrgin Space (SPCE). Currently, due to dumb luck, they're all millionaires. I think CityGame has posted a long call option on TSLA, but that may not be his. However, given the fact there are 420 open contracts, I'm inclined to take that as a sign that yes, he actually has. This means we will soon be playing Congressional as guests of new money CityGame.)

That's the sheet from the guy who made 4 (or 8) million on Tesla call options a couple weeks ago. He posted it on WS bets. Since he posted that, the sub has been the fastest growing sub on reddit.

Here's one article on it. He got vetted by the mods in the sub and it seems legit, unless I missed act 3. https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/reddit-trader-claims-make-millions-risky-tesla-call-options-wallstreetbets-2020-2-1028880892

I was rolling during the super obvious zoom and pan slightly up to avoid a potential Janet Jackson-esque wardrobe malfunction lol.
