Gochujang is legit, I've used it to make wet rubs for ribs before smoking them.

yeah, we have it at home. We made a shrimp dish like a month ago that we used it in. I'll mix it into "city's generic asian sauce" that I pour on fish and rice.

We have a Bon Chon near me in Annandale, but it's a terrible location.  The other Bon Chon's are solid, but some how this location is run by people who hate food, people, democracy and puppies.

Also there are probably 15-20 other better restaurants in Annendale LOL.

Agree.  I had Bon Chon in D.C a couple times and so I wanted to try it in Annandale, but this location is terrible.  On Yelp, most Bon Chon's have 4+ stars while the Annandale location has 2 stars.  🤮

I'ma need the recipe for "city's generic asian sauce" pls.

There's a stupid easy protein I'll make that's just ground turkey, garlic, ginger, and gochujang.  Eat with rice and veggies.  It tastes better when made with ground beef, but I generally make it for work lunches, and I don't like eating red meat for 4 days in a row at lunch.

My generic Asian sauce is basically a combination of fish sauce (red boat), soy sauce (not kikkoman), mirin, sriracha, rice wine vinegar, then sesame oil as an emulsifier.

I eyeball the quantities, and taste as I go, but I'd start out with a little less than a quarter cup of rice wine vinegar, and a tablespoon-ish of the other stuff. That's for a pretty vinegary sauce.

One can add to this any combination of. . .

ginger

garlic

scallions

cumin

gochujang (or any other kind of fermented chili paste)

hot chiles

chinese five-spice

lime juice (I put lime juice in a lot of things, but it can get overwhelmed in this sauce)

miso paste

if you do that, you can cook fish with just salt and pepper and let this sauce provide the spark.

This is good with just eggs and butter and rice, too.

I mostly just love getting it soaked into rice.

Say guys!  I was reading that Dream Golf book, and I was thinking we could book a lesson with Grant Rogers, the wizard of Bandon Dunes!  And, let's book it for Sunday, the day we arrive!  So we'll have-

Getting up at 4am in DC

6 Hour Flight to San Francisco

55 minute layover

2 hour Flight to Eugene Oregon

2 1/2 hour drive to Bandon Dunes...

and then when we get there, we'll just all pile out of the car straight to a 30 minute short game lesson!  Whaddya say fellas!

Since its been radio silent from the other two, I'll assume their reaction is the same as mine:

Are we going to Bandon to take a walk in the woods or playing some MFing golf?

You can get some beauty sleep on the flight to SFO princess.  🤣

There's a place near me that has two locations in Baltimore. This is their chicken sandwich. It's on a bao bun.

This is the description. . .

Taiwanese curry fried chicken thigh topped with spicy sambal mayo, pickles, and fresh herbs. Comes spicy or mild.

@Ocgolfrick is going to regret it when I use my new links skills to win a $2 net skin from him.

Sean, your standard worm burner game is already perfect for Bandon.

Food on the resort is fine.  It's not worth leaving to eat.

We had dinner in town the night before our first rounds (we were staying off resort for a night) but I don't remember it being anything special.

Concur. I thought the food was more than fine with a couple of really great meals. In all the research I did there was nothing I found that was worth the 30 or so minutes of r/t driving time into town after a 36 hole day - while resting for another one the next day. Just was nothing worth going for.

It is CURRENTLY my intention to leave Bandon to eat. It's currently my intention to leave Bandon to eat more than once.

I do not expect to be accompanied by many people.

I DO remember getting a good meal in Bandon last time I went. But, more than that, I think the nearby towns and businesses should be supported. I mean, they are (indirectly) through the resort anyway, as employees live and work there. But, I kind of hate the idea of deep pocketed people rolling into the resort from all over the country and all of that money going to Keiser/the management group, and none of it (directly)  going to the people who live and work in the town right there.

But, after walking 36 holes, and the sun going down, and beer and a sandwich 5 minutes away, I can see those plans changing. The last time I went, we had a lot more daylight.

Not directly? The money BD gets literally goes to hiring and paying hundreds of locals to work there which helps support hundreds of local families. The people who work at the resort cooking, serving and clearing your food are literally all locals. They survive on your meals and tips, that's how they make a living. Hey we bought beers at the local Food Mart so I get your point - sort of - but think its a little misplaced in this case.

I am interested in going into town for a meal and getting something local.  I also fully acknowledge that the desire to go into town will collide with the reality of playing 36 a day and probably just wanting to rest and get ready for another 36.

I clearly (I thought) made a distinction between the way I was using the word "directly", as in directly supporting a local business, and "indirectly" as in spending money at the resort that also is distributed through the town.

When someone in Baltimore buys a chicken sandwich at Popeyes, I consider that "indirect" support of the local economy, and when they buy a chicken sandwich from Ekiben, that's direct support.

This was clear in my post.
