Looks like Brooke kind of played her way out of contention yesterday with the a very ho hum round. Plenty of holes left, though.

Wow. Georgia was draining putts from everywhere. Looks like she could have made them blindfolded. Impressive.

Minjee's 3 putt late in the round didn't seem to derail her, but she can't get away with that if Georgia's putter remains hot.

Solid rounds by Megan and Marina. Both players are having a bit of a down year compared to last season, but a win would certainly change that in a hurry.

Yeah tough round for Brooke but I figured if last weeks hoopla was going to catch up to her and cause a sluggish round it was gonna be on the day with that 5 AM wake up call lol. With the morning tee time she did have time to rest for today's round but she'll need another 64 just to have a chance of being a few shots from the lead going to Sunday.

I think Minjee is set up for her 2nd win, this is a shooter's course and if IMO Georgia putting doesn't keep rolling with the putter I feel Minjee will drop a number on her over the weekend. Although Minjee is susceptible to the bad round, I feel if she's close on Sunday she knows how to close and gets it done.

Alison made a cut? Say it ain't so. Can she finish higher than DFL? We'll see, but I'm hoping for the best.

Shaping up for an interesting last day. Can we call it match-play yet? Of course i am barracking for Minjee, and I think she'll win, but if Georgia keeps putting the lights out I don't think Minjee will handle it well.

At the start of the season GWRX posters were unanimous that rookie of the year would be Jin Young Ko, with daylight second. I was thinking about Georgia Hall during that discussion, but didn't mention her. A win tomorrow will get her pretty close, well at least into second place ahead of daylight. But for a mediocre first half of season she would have been vying with JYK.

It doesn't matter that Marina and Annie will have won an LPGA event. Unless they win multiple events between now and the Solheim cutoff, Juli will find a way to leave them off the team and put Paula on it.

I was thinking of an angle similar to that...Annie Park and Marina Alex with an LPGA tour win before Gerina Piller.

I expected to root for Minjee today but it was an easy transition to Marina. She has been one of my favorites since she was the most enthusiastic fellow competitor while congratulating Mo Martin after Mo won the British Open several years ago. Likewise Marina has been out there quickly to douse and hug other American winners on the 18th green.

However, when I've followed her at Naples and Ocala in recent years it has been disappointing, especially on the weekend when she has been in contention. I remember once in particular at Naples. As the commentators quoted Marina today, she had a prior tendency to be overly tentative when challenging the top of the leaderboard. That certainly described Naples. Her expressions were tense and likewise the golf. I didn't stay with that group nearly as long as I had planned.

It was awesome to see that gone today. Likewise I think Gerina might break through and win if she either begins the final round many, many shots clear, or trailing with no real expectation of winning. Too often when she has had a chance it's been with a narrow lead or highly touted from a small deficit.

Wow, that was unexpected. I thought that Minjee or Georgia might stumble a bit, but not both, and certainly not that much. That has to sting.

That said, what a win by Marina. Her play in 2017 was excellent, but she seemed to take a step back this year. She hadn't had a top 10 since the ShopRite, and she's missed the cut in two of her past six events. Her charge out of the gate today was really something. 'Hope to see more from her. Oh, and a big thumbs up for her post round interview. It was natural and insightful. I had pretty much given up on post round interviews.

Wow, the day did not go at all as expected. Glum days for the two leaders who should have been having a one on one duel, and that amazing front nine from Marina. Great job, great to see the first win.

Hope Georgia and Minjee aren't too disappointed.

Also happy for Ayako. And that Su recovered from yesterday to make top 10.

Wow, Lexi got top 10 too. Hopefully that's a good sign for her.

I actually love this course, I complain about LPGA courses and set up all season but to me this course is so much fun to watch as a fan, well more the results it produces than the actual course. This event and the Kia in Carlsbad are my 2 favorite LPGA viewing courses. I love how it starts out soft and forgiving and get harder faster each day increasing the degree of difficulty. I like how you can score on every hole as long as you are hitting good shots but if any part of your game driving, wedges and iron as well as putting is off you can put up a big number on any hole.

How often do we see on many of the pitch and puts the player who go low continue to go low with little risk, this event always starts out as a pitch and putt but ends up playing like a major by Sunday.

From my experience in living in the Portland area, the old classic courses around the area are very light on fairway bunkering. It seems like with the abundance and size of the trees many of the course architects used allowed them to minimize the number of fairway bunkers.

Not sure why but it seems to be a PNW thing. Many of these classic courses up here were designed in the 20’s and before, Waverley, Portland Golf Club, Eugene CC and Columbia Edgewater.

I'm thrilled for Alex to have broken through. I thought she deserved to be a Solheim pick last year and maybe next time it won't come down to that. She's had some opportunities this year to be higher up the leaderboard but would have the one round that would take her out. I did get a chance to see her in Toledo this summer and it's great to know I was watching a future LPGA winner.

Many players who've yet to win, or who have a win or two, seem to suffer from the same condition, the dreaded "bad round syndrome". Gerina, Danielle, Jodi, Pornanong, Lizette, Mariajo, and Amy come to mind, but there are certainly others. They're all extremely talented, but can't get out of their own ways at times. Heck, even the multiple winners can sabotage a win.

IMO it's also easier for the first time winner, if they come from behind on Sunday to get the win. Sleeping on the lead is tough for the best of players, never mind someone who hasn't won. How many times was Gerina leading going into Sunday only to come up short.

I'd like to see a few more fairway bunkers. Did we see a player hitting out of a fairway bunker all week?

I think it's more of an elite women's golf thing. Accuracy from the tee is prioritized over length. There are 47 players with a higher accuracy percentage than the leading man. I would guess strength has a lot to do with it. The men are better off closer, even if on the rough. The women are better off a few yards back but in the short grass.

If they're not missing fairways they're not hitting out of fairway bunkers.

Yea it all comes down to strength and the mens ability to muscle the ball out of some gnarly lies, or nuke the ball and send it into orbit and still have the distance with a lofted club, its something that is extremely rare on the LPGA. Tigers fairway pot bunker shot clearing the lip, flying over the water and landing on the green in the final round at the Open or DJ hitting a 180 yard pitching wedge from the deep rough at the Canadian open come to mind. Watching the LPGA raw distance isnt as big a benefit compared to the PGA.

Unlikely. Paula is as lost as lost can be. Major life changes tend to do that. They're compounded that she was showing no form otherwise.
