I agree. I have a TS and pxg gen2 and 3 shafts for each (Tensei orange TX, white TX and T1100) and for me--pxg is faster club head speed, ball speed and carry for at 1/4 short orange Tx in the PXG. I use my flight scope on our outdoor bays at the club. I hit with a former PGA member a lot and he hits his M3 the longest with some stock shaft. So all these comparisons are silly really. It is what you hit the best that you have been fitted for. all swings are different and I hit my orange TX at 2300 rpms where the pro hits it at 1700 which is suboptimal. All "my number" info is useless in my opinion.

0.5" makes a very noticeable difference, especially if you hit center of club face each time. Reason you go shorter shaft is for better contact among others. All else equal 0.5" is about 2mph difference in each iron and maybe 1-2mph in driver. So an additional 5y, which is exactly what this video showed.

 

Also, PXG standard is 45" (their philosophy is better consistency) and TS3 standard is 45.5" (Titleist SPEED project, aka max speeds by all means including longest Titleist shaft ever at 45.5").

 

So, IMO he did not get fit into those lengths, but rather the fitters just shoved their OEM's philosophy down his throat. Otherwise huge coincidence.

 

In the end, if I was him, and if those numbers held true every day, I would still have chosen the PXG due to better dispersion 3y vs 7y. Also, based on his comments as well.

 

The whole difference in speed is due to extra 0.5". Otherwise those two drivers were identical for him. TS3 might be one of the best drivers out there, so if PXG can go head to head, then it is a great club.

 

And finally, his launch monitor is way jacked up. He isn't going to carry the ball that far and avg. 300y+ total yards with 106mph CHS, lol.

1. I got my PXG with Pro Orange shaft for cheaper than TS3 would cost with same shaft.

 

2. Only performance that matters to me is dispersion and playability. Everybody always fixated on distance, spin, ball speed, yada yada yada.

 

I would gladly pay an extra $75 for better dispersion. Heck I would pay double if I was guaranteed better dispersion. Extra 5y of distance be damned.

Listen again at :35 when says..."when I was fitted for the PXG driver at Woburn Golf Club and I was able to test it indoors…..". Then he tested indoors on his GC.

 

That makes me believe the fitting for the PXG is worthless to then use it indoors under much different conditions for comparison.

He got fitted for each TS3 and PXG outdoors on different days in way different conditions.

Joel says it’s a fair comparison under the same conditions, on the same day, same session. The results were very similar and expected, given the longer shaft.

He says in his video that he was fit for the PXG at Woburn Golf Club....no question. Freezing conditions with different balls vs the indoor premium warm balls.

 

This will result in different results indoors compared to outdoors....that is the point that you seem to be missing.
