New PXG prototype driver

GolfWRX_Spotted

Recommended Posts

Just finished my first range session with my Gen2 Driver; 10.5 XF with Even Flow blue 65g shaft. Weights are in the neutral position. As a former Xperience guest, I was fitted at PXG headquarters by the same individual who fit me into my Gen1 bag.

A great, great, great club. Easy to hit; great distance; great dispersion,

I could not be happier!!!

I’m glad you had such a good experience as well.

I’m glad PXG finally has drivers that compare with their irons, which just perform amazingly

I love feeling that every club I pull is the best I can possibly hit. Confidence never hurt anybody!

During my fitting the X and XF head was spinning the same for me. right around 2000-2100. I have a pos attack angle avg at 4. ended up going for the more forgiving head. averages were SS 100, ball speed 150, carry 240-250, roll 260-270. This was outside in 45 degree weather with pretty crappy range balls, so i expect all of those numbers to improve slightly. Also, I had the tendency to hit it just barely on the heal side of center and sometimes slightly low on the face. getting that impact a little more to the toe and higher will help my numbers.

look of the driver at address is stealthy. a black shaft with this thing just pairs beautifully. The look of the face is underrated IMO - it's all black, no busy white lines or writing. just a classic look. It is the best sounding driver i have heard in a long long time. sounds like the crack of a wood bat. cant wait to get it in

Only issue is it’s the 0811 x which according to this forum is back ordered so I might not get this driver for the opening season. Hopefully I’m wrong

I have about the same numbers you did. Only difference was I use a Matrix TP6HD

I was very impressed with the XF spin numbers with the Highest MOI of any driver made.Toe and heel misses are so much better with flight and spin

Did you find a flight bias for the XF versus your normal?

I did a fitting yesterday and was really impressed. I ended up with the 9 XF. Sound and feel were amazing. I was getting faster ball speeds than the epic flash (although they were not the same shafts, so not totally comparable.). My fitter fit me into a hzrdus yellow. During the fitting, I was hitting a handcrafted version and I asked him if the shaft would be handcrafted, he said yes and that they only offer the "tour issue" shaft in their lineup. The picture on their website shows the HC shaft, but I just noticed on instagram that they responded to a user saying that the hzrdus lineup is not handcrafted. This makes me wonder why they would do a fitting with a HC shaft and then ship a different version. seems like conflicting reports. Can anyone confirm? That would be pretty annoying and I dont feel like would be an accurate fitting. what do you all think?

At PXG, I was fit into the Even Flow blue, 65G shaft. It was my understanding that the shaft I tested was handcrafted.

My clubs arrived yesterday; driver, 3 metal and hybrid all state “handcrafted” on the shaft.

PXG Proto +, 10.5 turned to 9; Ventus
PXG Gen4 3 metal ; Tensei Blue
PXG Gen4  5 metal;  Tensei Blue
PXG Gen4 hybrid; 21 degrees
PXG Gen4 Ps; 5-Gap with Nippon 950gh S
PXG Sugar Daddy wedges; 54 and 58; Nippon 950gh S

PXG 38” counter balanced, PXG Mustang

The handcrafted department was moved to Asia and they really aren’t doing handcrafted in shafts anymore outside of tour stuff and even that’s limited. There are still hc versions of black, yellow and red out there. There is no difference in the hc vs non hc versions of shafts.

Edit: in the Instagram post with the driver head pxg also mentioned that hc is tour only

I have been playing draws/straight for the last few years. with the XF and X I was getting straight/little 5 yard baby cuts. Trackman was saying that my path was in to out, but my face was slightly open at impact. for some reason I just wasnt getting the face square

I think as I get grooved into the driver I will go back to my normal shot shape. however, i wasn't displeased at all with what i was seeing and if it stays like it was during the fitting, I would gladly play that shot.

The best thing for me, was when I hit that low heal shot it did not get crazy spinny on me at all. my mishits were very well controlled with this club.

I played the Gen1 X and XF and drew the ball and hooked more on misses. I ended up playing the XF

So I chose the Gen2 XF and I find the ball flight to be even higher but much flatter in carry

Baby draw perfectly and on misses still a baby draw that carries better than Gen1 XF. I suspect this is due to less spin especially on toe and heel misses

Maybe I’m swinging better or the club is easie to hit, because I find the center of face more often. Bottom line, misses a playable and center hits are high flat bombs for me. I have the 9 degree set to 9.75 degrees with the 3 heavy weights set heel side

Must be the driver is good. I’m finding much the same results you are in regards to the mishits.

I guess it’s the extreme (no pun intended) MOI on this driver but the feeling that you can hit all over the face, it gives me the confidence or feeling that I can swing much harder at it and that along with the aspects of this driver has really given me a lot of extra yards off the tee and I’m still in play too

I find the xf with neutral weights and flat hosel setting hits a nice high draw but rarely over draws. I have a gd ad vr 6 stiff tipped 3/8”. It’s my favorite gd shaft so far, I have tried most except for the iz. I am going to try the ventus 5 stiff tipped 3/8” and see how that is. The head sits pretty square in my opinion.

Thanks guys.

Has anyone made the switch from playing M3/4? Shade some lights on how 0811x vs m3/4? Thinking about making the move but fairly happy with my m4 still...

I was fit for my M3 last year at our demo day at the club. Was hitting it about 3-4 yards further than my epic. Flash forward 8months, after I had been fit for my pxg irons the rep hinted that they have been researching a new driver and some tour players were using it saying it was pretty amazing.

Went and tried my M3 vs M5/6, TS3, Epic flash, ping G400, and PXG x. The flash and the X were far and away better than all of the others. Spin was down, distances better and grouping was tightest with the PXG. Ended up with the PXG but had to go out and buy the flash because the X 9 degree was back ordered for months and I sold my M3. Go hit the PXG you won’t regret It. Sorry I know it was long winded. But I hope it helps.

I went for a fitting this weekend.... 45yo, ss 100mp, 5hcp, neutral AOA. Normal carry about 230yds.

Problem is the occasional pull hook. Overall I suffer from too much spin and too low of a launch angle. Not a great combo.

End up being fitted to the XF 12* with a flat lie angle. Spin dropped about 500RPM and launch up 2*.

Gained about 12 yards but the dispersion with one particular shaft was much much better. The only issue was the best shaft was a significant up-charge (Dianama BF).

By far the best performing/ most forgiving driver I have ever hit. Perfect feel and great acoustics.

The thing that made me laugh on the MGS list is for the con on the XF it says "not among the ballspeed leaders". It was .92mph below the overall winner, Flash SZ, while also playing .5" shorter

All of the differentiation in the MGS test data seem to be razor thin. Less than 3.5mph ballspeed, 550 rpm spin, and less than 11.5 yards carry difference between 1st and last in each category.

It does say something that the PXGs did well in the ball data results while also being the 2nd shortest playing length drivers in the test.

Why would the PXG X's measured loft be 8.3 degrees? Is this a manufacturing one-off, or are they trying to sneak in a lower loft so they can say "lower spin"?

It's a production variance. With the mass production of golf equipment, not all lofts are what is stated on the clubs. Just because it says 9 or 10.5, doesn't always mean its a true 9 or 10.5 until its measured.

i agree and that’s what I would have guessed as well. Just seems funny that the company touted as “ultra premium” is the one furthest off the stated loft. So much so that the thought of it being intentional crossed my mind.

All OEMs are all over the place with loft. Ping charges to digitally measure heads and only guarantee they'll find you one the closest to the number you've requested.
