UGH!

I bet you spent a lot of time looking at the group behind you. It’s uncomfortable. Hopefully there wasn’t a WRX’r behind you and we’ll see a thread about his round.

exactly. It ruined what should have been a great day. One of the complications was that the group in front was a fast playing 3-some, and behind was was a 2-some, a 2-some, and then a 3-some, and then a single, all in carts, as were we thankfully.

We let the first 2 2-somes through, but on the par 3 11th, the 3-some was on the tee before we even had all of our balls on the green. I said we have to let these guys through, and the one guy said "no, we have to hurry up"...ugh...not gonna happen with the slow guy. So I turned around and yelled to let them through and they sat in their carts and never moved. Never waved, never acknowledged me. So instead we played with them waiting on every shot.

We were in just under the 4hour and 15 minute "time par", but it seemed like 6 hours with one guy pushing, and one guy putting his ball down, lining up the line on the ball, addressing it, basically doing the Jim Furyk on every putt. While the 3-some watched.

FORE RIGHT!!!!

Know how you feel. I have a certain in-law who is slow, doesn't think he's slow, and because of that won't let people play through. I have played with him once in the past 3 years. I couldn't stand it anymore.

Unfortunately, there's not a slow player on the planet who thinks he's slow.

Happened to me recently in our weekly Comp. Paired with an older gentleman (older than me and god bless him for being out there) who was so slow, particularly around the greens, I found myself standing on every green looking at the group behind us waiting in the fairway for us to finish. I cracked and started chipping and putting as fast as I could in a feeble attempt to speed things up. Long story short, I had 48 putts that day and my playing partner finished first in our flight.

It’s tough being the player who’s forced to work to keep their group moving. What doesn’t help, though, is being a foursome with a series of twosomes behind you. What’s a starter thinking when they send them out? It’s clearly going to turn into a cluster out there. You had four groups behind you when you should have had two. I’m happy enough to let people play through, but at some point you’ve got to finish, too. In your case, I’d have let the two twosomes go through, but that threesome can pick up the single or they can get used to waiting.

One of the guys I play with 2x a week adds 20 minutes to our round. He's a really nice guy and we enjoy his company, but the three of us spend a lot of time watching him reading his putts from 360*, up and down behind the ball etc. To make matters worse he is the worlds worst putter. He is yippy and refuses to change his feet together stance that he thinks is helpful when in fact he is completely unstable.

We've gotten to the point that when he has a longer putt and starts into his reading the green routine the next guy out will putt. As a result he is almost always the last one to tap in (rarely make a long putt) and putting out of order probably saves us quite a bit of time. He never gets the hint but we've done what we can to make the best of it.

One suggestion that works for me: At the beginning of the round, say "lets play ready golf". If you're ready, go ahead and hit. It tends to move people along when they see the other three players next to the green and they are still 240 out.

It's' effective, and non-confrontational.

48 putts!? Wow, even by my standards, that's impressive!
