I was thinking about the 18th hole a bit more and I'm interested to see how it plays. I get the whole "same course for everyone" and the total shots are what wins. However, I've also wondered:

a) The 18th could be cool if someone makes an eagle to win or is tied and dumps one in the hazard. But given that not everyone plays the hole at the same time, it does take some of the drama out if a players on the 18th tee with a one shot lead. Basically, you'd need to try and lose it at that point vs. as a 440 yard par 4 it was a bear.

b) At 480 something, I wonder if everyone that hits the fairway is giving this a go or if a substantial number of players still need to lay back? At 260 off the tee, it's probably in a bit of an awkward distance for some (with hazard short/right). I think 13 had little trouble around the green so everyone could blast it up somewhere around the hole and maybe on. I just hope they haven't made this too much of an advantage for the players that can hit an iron in with a good tee shot.

I cannot take much more of this tv coverage. Couple observations before I go. Stupples and Gannon are still all in on the Maria Fassi Explosion. It really sounds like they actually believe the hype and/or are in actual awe of this player. Good for them. Also, the commentators are doing good pronouncing Sung Hyun's name properly. But as soon as some big shot, like Dan Hicks arrives and starts saying "Sung Hyoon", they will all fall into line again. Ha ha. What a bunch of spineless yesmen.

She's going to need a very solid round tomorrow just to make the cut.

It's evident she's probably as focused as she's been in years. The only question is can she keep it up and keep competing over the next 3 days. Time will tell.

+6. Wow. Looking at the bottom of the board, there are names I didn't expect to see.

It would appear that many top players spent the last week watching Rory's "How to Master the Majors" instructional video.

Paula is the only player in the top 10 with a bogey free round. 'Not too shabby. Charley had a bogie free 68 (T12).

That's funny. Seems not that long ago Lydia and Lexi battled on Sunday for the win. I've learned lately to never say never in golf, especially women's golf but a lot of planets are going to have to align for either of them to make the weekend.

I don't have cable to see and hear for myself but seems the weather is much improved for the July date. After one day has anyone on here noticed if the gallery seems larger than September galleries on the first day?

Wasn't the Evian this time of year before it became a major (I don't exactly remember)? If so it could explain why Players like Paula is at the top and Inbee right there and Chella also around (top 10), Most young guns and current top players have only played this event where you had to attack the flags cause the greens were so soft. Today the greens were firm (hard) and especially in the afternoon and attacking pins usually lead to trouble, ask Minjee on 17,

You are correct, from 2003 through 2012, the event was held in late July, usually a lead-in to the WBO.

Paula makes an interesting story because though it happened a long, long time ago, she once had greatness. Michelle stole her spotlight but that's a whole another rant. Anyways while these kind of comebacks are very unusual, in Paula's case I want to believe that despite being washed up, she still has it in her to win, kind of like Tom Watson at the 2009 Open. Yes I know, I am likening a spry 32 years ~~old~~ young woman's situation to that of a nearly 60-year old Watson. What can you do, it's a man's world.

It seems it always comes down to putting. Paula only managed 8 fairways, and 224 off the tee. She did hit 14 greens, so the missed fairways weren't bad. Her putter was on fire, needing only 25 putts.

Mi Hyang only averaged 218 off the tee, but still had 15 GIRs. That and 27 putts makes for a nice six under round.

I have not been able to watch any of the coverage. Do you know if Paula and Mi Hyang were getting lots of roll out on their approach shots? It just seems to me that they both would be hitting lots of long irons/hybrids etc. into the greens with such short driving distances today. But of course, the putter can be the great equalizer!

Not a fan of Paula personally, but why should her age really matter as far as "can she still win" sure she can, she needs to play 4 good rounds of golf just like anybody else despite their age. Cristie Kerr has won 10 times since she turned 30.

4 good rounds is all ya need, sprinkle in a little luck here and there too.
