Jennifer teaches a lot of the girls coming from Korea english and other things. She is the it girl of some big popular players.

I hope she doesn't get disqualified.

Regarding the R&A's impending takeover of the Women's Open Championship, I came across this tidbit from the UK Guardian's Ewan Murray:

 

The R&A’s upcoming management of this major – with 2020 and 2021 venues named as Troon and Porthcawl respectively – has led to speculation it may become the sole domain of links territory. (Danielle) Kang, for one, would not appreciate a permanent switch.

“This fits my game way better,” she said. “I feel like my track record on links golf, it’s not very good. I like if I have to hit 165, it goes 165 instead of hitting in one place and ending up another. I’m enjoying Woburn a lot.”

Danielle raised the question as to whether this event should become a permanent links course.

I'm not sure if this topic merits its own thread or not, but it definitely is a subset of this topic -- it seems to me that the Women's Open Championship should be played on predominantly links style courses. Not exclusively, but predominantly.

Links courses offer a completely different test of golf -- not just the one that tests your ability to throw wedge/short iron shots to the green and pins. The wind and terrain make it so that a player is tested on their ability to adapt to course conditions and to factor in landing shots short of the green and it releasing towards the green/pin, etc. Just my two cents on this after my morning coffee and read.

I've liked J. Song ever since she went one on one with a saintly LPGA player on the driving range at Carlsbad in a dispute over territory. She was in the right. Her resume includes a US Am. Still the second biggest tournament in ladies' golf. Plus she's the best-looking player on Tour.

Hope she plays well. Her comments about the course /attitude seem similar to her interview before the ANA (although not as strong and she wasn't as upbeat here). Based on Evian, it seems like there's some places she just likes/doesn't like and it gets in her head more than it does for some other players.

Calling Woburn a parkland course doesn't quite capture the true nature of the course. I think I've seen fewer trees in parts of the Amazon rainforest. The aerial views are quite impressive.

 

I think Nelly nailed it when she said the greens were on the slow side. 'Lots of putts diving below the holes. I can't remember the last time we saw that many lip outs.

 

Lydia is really struggling. Back to back weeks with poor opening rounds. I think the length of the course is the culprit here.

If she loses by a stroke, she's going to look back at that four putt and scream. She's playing some seriously good golf at this time.

HJK shows it's possible to turn it around. I hope I'm wrong but I think it's an uphill (like a mountain) battle for her, In Gee, or So Yeon to be in the Top 10 or so for an extended period of time again.

 

Each may win big again or make it back for a bit but the extended period of play noticably below the top tier (I don't want to say bad) is hard to ignore. Lydia booked a win last year, which in some ways is what matters most. But I wouldn't disagree that her game is still on a three year slide if someone wants to claim that.

 

Baring some miracles this week, all are going to need to retool for next year. I really hope SYR can play in the Olympics next year but it's not looking good.

I could put a copy of Dreamweaver 1.0 on a 486 based Epson PC and toss it into a cage of drunk baboons and they would be able to create a better web site than what is currently lpga.com

Another solid round by Georgia. I'm a bit surprised given that her play since her win last year has been rather meh.

 

Scores look a little higher than yesterday, but still plenty in the 60s. The projected cut is still at +1.

Nice to see Charley doing well. The way she described it three years ago, playing the WBO at her home course sounds like a gigantic headache. At least now she won't have to listen to her sisters picking apart her rounds and yammering about how they could've made this or that putt. She might still have to explain to her friends what golf is and how it is played. They do not sound like the most worldly bunch.

Mixed bag for the JLPGA players. It looks like Hinako, Minami, Teresa, and Momoko will make the cut, but Ai and Mamiko will miss it.

The leaderboard (down to -4) is stacked again this week. Regardless of these two tournaments status within the "majors," the golf is definitely interesting.

You'd think that it was in the low 50's based on some of the attire, but it's currently 73 degrees with light winds. The morning temps were in the low 60's I believe.
