What is the one rule you wish could be changed

To do that would seem to give the advantage to the player who can afford more clubs. While there will always be SOME advantage to having purchasing power, increasing the club limit, or doing away with it entirely, could substantially increase that advantage.

First, I think the rule is fine as it is.

But I don't think allowing for increased would substantially increase the advantage. What different clubs would the world's best put into their bags? I just don't see the Pros adding more than 2-3 clubs anyway.

I don't know, if they could have their irons or wedge set so everything was a nice smooth swing every time and not have to think about a percentage swing or stepping on it and the increased spin, who wouldn't?

What yardage gaps maximum do you think they would go to? 5 yds? You think they would double the amount of clubs? I don't. But that brings up another point. The rule is there because of the advantage money might have, but the requirement to play shots.

I would be interested in knowing those in here who think they would actually lower their handicap by carrying say three extra clubs. But if this is true, why would anybody want to carry extra clubs?

We all buy new clubs pretty regularly. Have most of us played better through those purchases? People, especially golfers, like shiny new toys just for the sake of having shiny new toys.

I play in a "three club" tournament each year. Most years I score better than my average score with 14 clubs. I'm not proud of that, and I'm even more not-proud of my failure to somehow incorporate this experience into my course management. But all that leads me to believe that my handicap would not get lower by increasing my club count -- though it might get lower by increasing my thoughtfulness.

In the winter I carry, so I carry a half set (usually odd no's). It makes no difference. In fact it's quite liberating going down the shaft or drilling a low one.

14 seems about right as a limit (to me) but I wonder why they settled on 14. 9 or 18 maybe, but 14?

I generally have 13 clubs in my bag, and don't use all of them on any given day. Could easily get by with 10-11 and not impact my scoring.

LICC is quoted all over the place there - but it seems that there are no posts by him that I could find. Certainly he is, and I’m not for over moderation. Not in the least, but his “opinion” wasn’t a problem. Countless people have shared that opinion over the years. None of those people derailed a thread like that though.

It is possible he has wanted to have all his posts be deleted and his account erased. That would seen strange, however, as I have never heard of such erasing of proper (...) posts but I guess the poster has the right to ask that.

I've seen a number of boards where a poster's posts were hidden however, it doesn't delete or hide other poster's quoting the guy.

I can't see his posts either but I do see them quoted by others.

I wish that Sun Mountain or somebody would make a cart bag for seventeen clubs. It would be easy: four by four full-length dividers plus a putter well.

You could stuff seventeen clubs in a big staff bag but the grips still get all tangled up at the bottom. I know because I've done it. A cart bag, with its individual "slots," has it all over a staff bag.

Sometimes in a casual, non-competitive round, it would be nice to be able to bag one's complete set. It would help to know which fourteen to choose in more formal play.

Beyond that, good golf clubs cost a fortune--too much to have to leave a bunch of them home.

If somebody would make a seventeen-club cart bag, I'd be among the first to buy one. Fifteen is the most that the bigger ones will handle now.

Still, fourteen is not a golf number. Somebody at the R&A or USGA just pulled it out of his rear end.

Eighteen would have been a more reasonable number.

If they upped it to 17 clubs I wonder what people would add to their bag. For me I would probably add a 5-iron, a chipper, and a 60/62 degree lob wedge.
