What is the one rule you wish could be changed

18 is at least a golf number. I don't think any number is unreasonable.

1, 3, 4, 5, 7 woods______________5

driving iron_______________________6

#s5-9 irons_______________________11

and since lofts are so strong...

43, 48, 53, 58º wedges_______15

dedicated sand iron__________16

chipper/runup iron___________17

putter_________________________18

I'm sure that somebody is bagging all this stuff in a big, ugly, staff bag.

The only thing I would add is a left handed club for trouble. WIth my err, umm distance I don't have any huge gaps, Maybe a 3i but I would hardly ever use it.

And here's another that may be workable------

anytime a ball can't be played; OB, Hazard of any kind, lost in woods, shrubs, high grass, drainage culvert, pipe or whatever--- with penalty strokes, the player would be able to walk back toward the last shot and drop anywhere along the ball flight no closer to the pin. For shots that overshot or were next to the green and lost in the same listed previously, the player again could drop anywhere on the line of flight of the last shot, so long as the ball was not dropped closer to the pin to where the ball was believed to be and also the ball could not be dropped on the green.

I'd oppose it, because I think things are about right now, but if such a thing did go through, there would be a problem if a lost ball got 1 stroke, and an OB ball got 2. You'd have arguments about where the ball actually ended up if its not clearly one or the other. There would also be an issue with "unplayable". If you hit it into a spot where you really can't get it to a "playable" location in a single stroke, you'd just take your stroke and go back into the nearest spot that's clear of trouble. I prefer it as it is, you have to stay in that area, or keep the same line of play (back on the line), so you're not necessarily clear of the problems. Either that, or you get to try again from where you started (stroke and distance). I think your proposal is too lenient.

Agreed, there’s a clear difference between a strong opinion and spirited debate and the cluster that occurred here. Unfortunately this wasn’t the first time. I was in another topic on weightlifting and health and golf. Let’s just say all the personal trainers, science folks, and even multiple first hand accounts were called as not true because of one small point of data.

His profile is still there and I tried the same thing just now and it DID "suggest" his user ID.

Funny but yesterday, after his posts disappeared, I saw him listed as the "last poster" on one of the threads but when I clicked on the thread his post wasn't there. This suggests, to me, that he is a what boards call "pre-mod", i.e. all his posts go into a queue and have to be approved my a mod before the post will show up.

His profile actually shows "Last active" as this morning. My guess would be he's on pre-mod for a while and will probably be "released" after a while.

Every single thread. Honestly it's too bad because clearly he knows golf, and is passionate, and can clearly come up with ideas that can make you think. You get more with sugar than with salt, though.

Oh well.

Dave I get the OB vs lost argument. I've seen it happen with a hazard next to OB on a dogleg blind shot. Big debate on whether the ball was OB or in the hazard. Those things are gonna happen no matter.

What I don't like is when the ball is in woods, tall grass, bushes etc along the fairway. An attempt can be made to find and play it. Maybe it takes 17 shots or maybe they never find it and go all the way back. This all takes extra time. So thus my proposal would not only save time but resolve drop complexity rulings. Again I'm not advocating the change it was just for conversational purposes and to redirect the topic away from one person here a bit :)
