P760s

I have been playing a combo set of 790's/760's for almost a year. 4 iron 790, 5-pw are 760's. For me its the best of both worlds. 760's are easy to hit and the longer irons offer just a bit of "pop" that other players cavity backs don't. I have never experienced any fliers that people seem to complain about with any of the hollow body irons.

The 790’s are bigger than the 760’s. Not by a lot but you will notice a small difference I believe the offset is pretty close to the same, maybe a hair more on the 790’s I didn’t buy the 760 four iron so I couldn’t compare it to the 790 four iron Essentially, subtle differences but after playing them for a year I don’t even notice them anymore

TBH, I just bought a second set This time I went 4&5in the 790’s and 6-PW in the 760’s I was looking to hit the ball a tad higher in the long irons and the 790’s definitely help with that

I have done just that Jerryo. Bent the 5/6 790 2deg week, and the gapping is fine with my 770s. Without bending, they played about 1 club longer for me as my initial experiment was a stock 6i as a strong 5 replacement for the 770 (Crossfield style).

Having played ping E2+ for 20+ years, the size transition is fine for my eye: they are related irons from a family perspective, but you never mistake the 770 for the 790.

Biggest change for me is slightly missed strikes: the 790's punish a few yards less but also are a bit clicky on the miss. My miss tends to be heel, and the 790 performs better on those strikes.

Get it near the button and the 790 has a good feel, but not as soft as a 770.

I made switch from z565/z765 combo to P790/P760/P730 combo this year.

It was decision made to have smaller headsize overall. I was pleasantly surprised that P760/P730 was not that hard to hit compared to z765.

Definitely lost little less than a club long distance but my distance dispersion is at best right now with P760.

have P790 4i / 5-8 P760 / 9-Pw P730

bent P730 a degree strong and P790 a degree weak.

I played with them for the last 2 rounds. Wonderful feel and plenty of forgiveness for the club of its kind. My best strike feels soft and a bit more better holding the flight than my old p790 which just go straight and knuckles quite a bit. I don’t buy in the fact that so many people talking about suddenly hit fliers, fliers happens for every single club at different degrees. How many people have you seen really take it over the green with a fluffy lies? Not that many. So give it a proper fitting and don’t listen to people when they brag about how far they hit the 790 or 760. They beat the T100 for my fitting and you can find new set from reputable Ebayer at great price

Just picked up a set of P760's. Took them apart to weight the heads, as well as measured lofts and lies. The lofts and lies were pretty much right on, other than some of the long irons being a tad more upright than spec. Super easy to bend, in fact, the softest irons I've ever adjusted.

I really like the less offset of these irons. Although I've only hit them at the range 3-4 times now, they definitely reduce the amount of draw spin I put on my shots (which I've been looking for).

My main issue is the weight of the PW and 9-iron. Both of these clubs are heavier than I've experienced in most forged blade-type sets. The PW is 298 grams, the 9-iron 289 grams. The rest of the set is accurately spaced apart by 7 grams, which should be standard. When I re-shafted the PW and 9-iron with PX 6.0, the swing weights were D7 and D5, respectively. I'm looking for a repair shop that will take 2-3 grams out of each head so the swing weights are more in line with the rest of the set.

I'm not sure why these irons don't get better reviews?

... I play several sets of irons including P790's, Cobra Forged Tours, Srixon Z Forged and P760's. The P790's are my favorites with the P760's a very close second. I picked up the 760's in Phoenix last winter because as mush as I love the 790's, some of the hard fast greens were not holding mid to long iron shots. I never experienced a problem in Chicago or Orlando but 2 of the munis I played the most in Phoenix had very hard and fast greens and rarely if ever even showed a ball mark, let alone needed one repaired. The higher lofts and increased spin of the 760's really helped. I will be moving to Phoenix this winter so my custom P790's with paint fill removed and new Steelfiber 95's are in the WRX classified because I will be playing my P760's.

... Fwiw, I am 66 and love the additional distance of the P790's as well as the P760 long irons. The 760's certainly have a much better feel and are perhaps a hair more accurate in the short irons and are deceivingly forgiving. I also like the smaller heads that just fit my eye both in size and shape. If I listed my top 10 irons after playing what I would estimate to be around 100 sets in 45 years, the P760's would certainly be in the top 10.

went from 790 to 760 for feel, less offset and control and I am never looking back...kept the 4 iron 790 and bent weak to gap properly

set is perfection ! maybe 5 yards shorter at the very most with substantially more control - could not be happier

Index dropped from 12 to 8 in short order after the change - ball striking has never been better

Fyi—I emailed Ryan Barath, YouTube club builder, and he told me that TM irons have weight plugs in the hosel. In order to lighten my wedge and 9-iron, I was able to remove the 10 gram hosel plug and add lighter tip weights to get the swing weight to match the rest of the set. If anyone else has an issue with heavy head weights, this is really good info.

Coming back to this much later, but wondering how you removed these weights from the hosel. Just heat and they fall out, or did you have to do some crazy extraction?

I’m having the same crazy high weights leading to super high swing weights and would love to fix that.

Lots and lots of heat lol eventually you will hear like the epoxy crackling and that normally will mean it's melting and the weight can come out.

Just use lots and lots of heat, and the hosel weights will eventually come out.  It took me a bunch of tries with a butane torch, but eventually I was able to tap the weights out of the hosel.
