I'm actually quite impressed that I haven't bought a TD yet.

 

Given than I have a GD TP7 and an RDX blue (that I haven't even hit yet) as backup shafts for the driver I think I can hold off for a while longer.

I tell you.  The mavrik TD cat5 combo I had is the one combo I wish I’d kept.  Or maybe more accurately, wish I had stabbed that shaft into a newer epic head.   The one issue I had with the mavrik was a left miss.  But it was the head.  I had same miss with 3 shafts with that head. But didn’t have that miss with the titleist.  But that shaft was the launch and carry king.  The TB I’m playing was neck and neck. But I truly think the TD was lower spin and felt best. 

My wife calls me a golf club hoarder.  She used to get upset when we were younger but now, she tells me if I buy something new, I have to sell the old.  She still gives me "the look" though.  That's when I know I'm in trouble.  😬

I dont hoard clubs.. But I have a small stash of shafts. I probably should try to sell some off..

So do these play on the stiffer side? I like my rdx blue 70g 6.0 but also love my kbs tours 120 stiff in my irons. Going for similar feel through the bag. Emailed kbs and they recommended cat 4 60g but I worry that’s be too stiff for my swing. Thoughts?

I forgot to update this thread.

 

After hitting my RDX Blue for a total of 15 swings (one provisional) I sold it and used the proceed towards a KBS TD 70 Cat 3.

 

In a surprising turn of events it has kicked the Ventus blue out of the bag.

What was your rdx blue weight?

It was a 60g. I just hated the feel of it.

I’m still playing the category 4 60g in both the driver and 4 wood,  neither of them will be going anywhere.   Just seems to fit my swing and how I load the shaft - getting great distance and solid controlled ball flight.

I bought the category 5 60 g a few months ago because of you guys. Still need to find someone local that is competent enough to take the Callaway adapter off and throw on a Titleist one.  Thanks for reminding  me I need to do this.

Anyone have any experience in a fairway wood. I play my fairways a bit shot so seignwieght is always an issue. I'm an X flex guy so would go Cat 4 80 gram.

 

Sounds like the tip heavy nature would be in my ball park for swingweight.

I have a category 4 70g in my 4 wood and I love it.

What have you used previously the more I read the more I feel this is going to be great especially in a 5w/7w

Primarily used Hzrdus 6.5’s in the black and yellow previously, tried the Ventus Velocore stuff and a few of the graphite design shafts.  I was fit for the KBS TD stuff and never looked back.  My drivers been automatic and the 4 wood is the best club in my bag since the shaft change.

That's very interesting as one of the best fairway shafts I've had is hzrdus black and used hzrdus yellow in the driver for along time and won't change it. TD it is then!

Makes sense since I’ve heard the original HZRDUS black profile was similar to kbs tour. I am still on my rdx blue now but pondering this. How does this hold up to aggressive transitions? Do people go up a flex then?

From what I can tell the KBS TD is a fairly tip soft profile with a 4" parallel tip intended for tipping. I see a few articles describing tipping to get each shaft to a certain frequency, but haven't been able to find any standard tipping instructions for this shaft?

My transition is pretty aggressive and the shaft has zero problem keeping up.

Coming back to this thread. I have a ventus black 6x that may or may not be toast. This has gotten me thinking about other shafts. How does the TD compare to the ventus black? I have the tours in my irons and love the feel there.

Have played the KBS TD cat5 and the ventus black 6x in the same driver.

 

Stability: Ventus by a mile

Feel: Ventus by two miles

 

For me the KBS launched higher, spun more. To the point of being unusable compared to the ventus.

Also more erratic in direction.

 

KBS also felt more head heavy, so even though it flexed more than the ventus it wasn't easier to swing it really.

Decided to try my KBS TD 70 cat 5 in my new TSR2+ 13* FW.

WOW!!  So stable and easy to control.

It measures about 21.5" tip to first ring at red finish...tipped or not?

Also have an 80 cat 5 measures the same...probably not tipped my guess.

Update to this. I have recently come into a Cat4 70G in my driver and so far like it. Easier to swing than the ventus black. I still need a couple more rounds with it before i fully commit. I like the feel so much it makes me wonder if I should sell it, get the 60 Cat4 and then get 70 cat4 in my 4w (which I am on the fence keeping but that is for another thread) and 80g cat4 in my UW.

I like the 60g category 4 / 70g category 4 combo.   I haven’t found a head it doesn’t work well in

Probably a long shot on these boards but has anyone tried the 50g weight class KBS TD shaft in a driver?
