SuperStroke WristLock???

I'm not going to argue with you. It does not close the face. You may have closed it by bending it incorrectly but adding loft to a putter or iron or wedge does not close the face. You are just bending the hosel forward. You could perceive it as being closed because of the added loft but the face angle does not change if bent correctly.

Well mine finally came in....first impression is a hard pass.

When it's installed and pressed all the way on to the putter shaft, the bottom of the grip doesnt seal onto the shaft. Its loose and moves around. There is several MM of space there. I guess you need an extension and it needs to be installed further up?

But if that was the case....the grip would not fit my grip at all as I play a 34" putter and grip almost all the way down the grip to begin with.

When I try ti play the putter with the 'ball' in my wrist I get a very awkward 'Bryson' straight-arm stance that forces me to turn my right shoulder in to square up and it takes the rear of the putter WAY off the ground.

If I would 'naturally' hold this grip the 'ball' of the grip is still like .75-1" away from the back of my wrist. It needs to be MUCH bigger to give me a 'connected' stroke with my current grip and stance.

I'm gonna mess around with using the grip to rest the 'ball' on my forearm instead of my wrist - but overall I doubt I'll ever put this into play and stick with my mid-slim SS grips.

Pretty much the prevailing thought in this thread on the grip. Right concept, just not executed well.

I forward press a good bit and still couldn't get the bulge onto my wrist without an uncomfortable address position.

I did like the squarish grip shape...so I put a flatcat on my spider and I like it a lot.

So I spoke with Justin at Continental Golf and he thinks when you change the loft it has something to do with the sole and it just sets on the ground differently. I had him bend a Spider X for me about 2° weak and to both of our eyes it sat much more square. So to answer the question, it doesn't close the face, but it does set differently. See, we are both correct.

  • 2 weeks later...

been struggling to get comfy with this grip but think I have a solution for me. need to wait till Monday to take the grip off.

going to re-install it so the grip will be on at 2-8 rather than the 6-12 it's meant to at.

I would also point out that you need a longer putter to keep your posture the same.

I actually really like the grip idea and think it will work for a lot of people. will update on Monday once I've changed it around

Like your set up, looks alot easier and with less tension in your grip , I will add that I am a bit disappointed with this grip, and to superstroke for marketing a rather misleading product. It is apparent that significant modifications to existing putters need to be made in order for this grip to work for most golfers, this grip puts your hands into a very forward position for a traditional grip, and the modifications needed should be highlighted in the video on their website. Like the idea, but not all the issues,

With my setup wrist lock has been great. I use a left hand low claw grip and anchor the shaft into my left forearm. Works best with a 38” putter.

I’ve already got a counterbalanced 38 inch TM spider mallet so I think this could be a perfect setup for me as I already leave about 1-1.5inch of grip free above my hands. No need to extend the shaft etc ?

All of my putters are counterbalanced and i grip down about 2 inches.  Just an FYI unless you play left hand low it is really hard to get the grip to lock or even touch your wrist without excessive shaft lean.

I’ve warmed up to this grip a bit now. I play it at 34”, and with left hand low, my fingers on my right hand are what brace against my left wrist, not the grip, so there’s basically no forward press.

I have adapted this method for putts in the 3 to

6 ft range, works very well,  on longer putts, I just place my hands in  a more traditional  style and not use the wrist lock feature. Also , I added 50 gram counterbalance weight , and do like this grip, for now.

If I do end up buying one I think I’ll add a bit of tape to the top to build it up a bit like one of the other people in this thread

ah that's a shame. If I replace with one anyway and I find i can't lock my wrist, I assume it will still work as a normal putter grip or will I need to replace again with a standard superstroke?

Works as a normal.grip. You'll just have a decent bit of grip above your hands. Kind of like a counter balanced putter.

I’ve already got a counterbalanced 38 inch TM spider mallet so could be a great replacement, will just need to purchase one of the weights to even it out a bit as the actual grip is much lighter than the one I’ll be removing

Finally received mine and got it fitted. Had a play around and I can see why people need quite a lot of forward press to make it work. They way I counter acted that was by wearing my golf watch slightly lower down my left arm so the putter pressed against the strap rather than my wrist alone and that solved all the problems ?
