Bridgestone Tour B RX - old vs new (2020 version)

Anyone done any comparisons between the old RX and the 2020 version? Curious if the new ball lives up to the advertising hype?

I played the RX last year and was reasonably happy with it but then switched to the Srixon Z Star because I thought it felt just as soft and delivered on slightly more distance.

I've been playing the new RX and it seems like it has improved on feel, distance, and spin, but just looking for some quantification. I think I like it better than the Z Star, but with the weather turning cold this week, I'll have a chance to do some comparisons indoors.

I prefer last year's RX over the 2020 version. I got maybe 1 extra yard with my driver with the 2020 version, but lost 3-4 yards on full swing iron shots. Plus the 2020 version curved more with the irons, which exaggerates my draw too much. I bought a bunch of last year's version on sale. Once those are gone, I'll have to figure out a new best ball for me.

Been playing the Tour B RX for the last 5 rounds and today I just felt like I was losing distance ... driver and irons... I checked my bag and found a well used Srixon Z Star and decided to play it the last 6 holes and I could immediately see that I was getting more distance, better spin on pitches to the green, and the feel off the putter was great. I'm going back to the Z Star for the time being. Sorry RX, I really liked the feel, but I need the distance.

Try the Tour B XS. I think you’ll find it just right.

on well struck drives, with higher than average swing speed, most likely yes. On irons, most likely no.

Differences in ball speed will become smaller as swing speed goes down. The softer compression balls are often longer off the irons though.

I’ve tried both and I actually hit the XS longer. I’m low 90’s with the driver.

This statement, in totality, is not true. Harder balls being faster is obvious (up to a certain hardness) but definitely not longer at all swing speeds. Distance is a function of launch angle, spin, and speed (also tilt angle and angle of descent). Unless you swing like a robot, robot tests are useless, but having said that, there were two robot tests performed in 2019 for 85 and 115 mph swing speeds. The data wasn't very consistent, one robot (85 mph swing speed) hit the Callaway ERC Soft (76 compression) longer than the Titleist ProV1x (109 compression) even the the ProV1x was a faster ball speed. The other robot, however, did hit the ProV1x further than the ERC Soft....lolhttps://www.todaysgolfer.co.uk/features/equipment-features/2019/september/robot-tested-which-golf-bal-suits-my-game/

Anyway, haven't tried the 2020 Tour B's yet but looking forward to comparing to the previous model..

Used a yellow Bridgestone tour b rx Thursday and man it was long on drives. 5-10 yards further than his Tm tour preferred 4 piece ball. fascinating.

didnt feel as nice....Great 3 piece ball. And it plays well into wind.

I've been using the XS the last 12 months or so, occasionally a Pro V1. I love the 2020 XS but our shop ran out of the new XS a couple of weeks ago (that in itself says something) so I until yesterday when we got stocks back, I have been using the RX for 2 weeks and I've got say its a fantastic ball.

My take is this: I would say the XS is maybe 4 yards longer off the tee and the RX is 4 yards longer off the irons. Spin on the RX is pretty good but not as good as the XS or the Pro V1. XS has the best spin for me.

I would say the RX spins about the same as a Srixon Z star. My swing speed these days is 94mph and my smash factor is 1.57.

I prefer the feeling of the RX, it really is a wonderful ball but my go-to ball is still going to be the XS, but if I had to choose between a Pro V1 and a RX I would take the RX.

Finally got a round in, and hit it very straight. It has a nice soft feel. For some reason I like the feel of the Truvis better. I can really compress the Truvis more, and it has way more character. I will still keep playing this and see what it does after playing it awhile. It is an amazingly straight ball. Not sure about holding greens just yet, as It did go off the greens a couple of time, but the course was playing dry. Just didn't seem to have much bite?

Bag is in overhaul mode
