Interesting the Tiger vs Bob May one will be going up against the Rory/DJ vs Rickie/Wolf match at Seminole. I think I'll be watching it!

Sky Sports have been doing this over the past few weeks as well. It’s crazy how bad the picture quality is compared to now. I sit there watching thinking, how did I manage to get all the way through this before without going cross eyed trying to focus on the ball.

Ha. I thought the same thing. We just didn't know any better.

It made me think what will broadcast technology be in 2040 that makes us look back on today's technology and say. I can't believe that's how we watched it ?. I'm sure it will have something to do with VR being the standard or something like that.

I caught a little, was crazy to see Sergio as a kid.

 

While we often remember TWs amazing shots, blowout wins, seemingly infallible...

 

What really defines a champion is the ability to “take a punch” but still maintain focus and go to work. Lots of guys play spectacular golf. But it’s TWs mental discipline, ability to grind when he’s not playing well, squeeze out pars, and recover from bad holes without it derailing his round that put him over the top many, many times.

On the thirteenth tee Sergio, the youngest player in the tournament at age 19, hits a 6 iron on the par 3 thirteenth, walks after it and puts it right behind the hole. Meanwhile, the second youngest player, Tiger at age 23 has a five shot lead. Tiger 3 putts at 12, Sergio makes his birdie and looks right back at the tee at Tiger.

Tiger, of course, birdies #13 and eats Garcia alive at the 19th hole.

No he doesn't, Tiger DOUBLES #13 and the lead is 1.

And the crowd is on SERGIO'S side.

They both bogey one hole coming in with Tiger making a huge par putt at #17 to win it by one.

One difference between TW or Jack and a guy like Sergio.

 

TW obviously gets crazy pumped up when he scores big. But then, he’s back to business, clean slate, next hole. Where Sergio rides the wave of emotions too high and low.

 

For TW, It’s back to work. Like I remember Nick Whatney recounting a tidbit of advice TW gave him...doesn’t matter if it’s a 3 footer on Thursday for par or an 8 footer on Sunday to win, he takes the same preparation and mentality to every shot.

 

Whether your on a roll or getting beat up, somehow the great ones shrug it off and stay all business.

 

Not sure why I’m reminded of this but I remember when Buster Douglas put Tyson down after a severe beating all night and then like 3 big rights to Tyson’s jaw and a huge uppercut. Tyson goes down, he is out, done. But remarkably, barely concious, he somehow picks up his mouthguard, puts it in his mouth, and stands up. Like, ok, time to go back to work!

 

He got counted out but I’ll never forget that.

 

Oh, here It is with the KO and mouthguard, I saw it on PPV like in high school at a party, it was insane ; )

They aired that on the Golf Channel last night and it's really the first time I've watched much of it since ... well, since it happened.

It's really interesting watching these old tournaments knowing what Tiger went on to do over the next decade. Like, "Oh, this kid's pretty good ... might win a handful more times. Might even get another major!"

I enjoy those "replays", but Jim Nantz and his hyperbole can be a bit funny: "Those massive shoulders of Brooks Koepka", or "The cheers of the fans soaring into the Saint Louis sky."
