Callaway Rogue X Iron Set - Counterfeit Concern

Guest thespr

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm a relatively new golfer but I've been actively going out several times every week to learn and improve, right now I'm on some old Top-Flite Irons I had in a set from Dick's years ago and they're genuinely atrocious so with my birthday coming up I decided on this iron set. I was going to go to Golf Galaxy to buy them brand new for $700 but after a look on eBay I found the exact same set I wanted but for $450~. The seller has over 6,000 positive ratings w/ no negative ratings and they actively sell/trade golf equipment.

I hopped on the purchase under the assumption that I could just return them but I wanted to share the pictures here so maybe someone with more golf knowledge or maybe even specific knowledge of these clubs can let me know if they look legitimate or not, I'm just a little iffy on it since it's an online used purchase and I don't have TOO much knowledge of the subject. I've tried comparing with images I found on Google but I can't tell for sure I guess until I get them in my hands. From what I can see the "CF18" on the end of the clubhead looks pretty good and the text/font doesn't look bad with the quality of the pictures.

The set was for a Regular Flex Graphite Shaft and it looks like there are re-gripped CP2 Pro grips on them, here are the pictures and thanks in advance:

Right sorry about that LOL I didn't mean to spell it Calloway in the title. I'll try to get clearer pictures once I get it, I'm hoping it's legitimate. The shaft looks very real from what it should be I just don't know any small, intricate issues that could be on the clubhead that would indicate it being a counterfeit.

They look fine to me. Like others have said, anyone with 6000 transactions is probably safe. I had a friend get a fake White Hot Rossie putter several years ago, but it was shipped from California with a seller having 2 transactions. That one was definitely priced at "too good to be true" to be honest.

I go straight to Callaway Pre-Owned when looking at used Callaway stuff because the prices are so good with included 12 month warranty.

Thanks for the replies everyone, do you think the price I got this for if they're legitimate is a good deal? I figured an ~$300 discount after tax for clubs in this condition seemed really good that's why I jumped on it ASAP. So far the consensus I'm getting (from here and my Dad and others) is that they're legit so I'm hoping I got myself a solid deal.

Im and expert at this...i have a set of callaway epic irons.. they were originally 1999$ brand new... i have them for 475$.https://maplehillgolf.com/mizuno-jpx-919-hot-metal-pro-irons/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=&scid=scplpMIZU6PWJPX919HMPRONSPRO950STLS&sc_intid=MIZU6PWJPX919HMPRONSPRO950STLS&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-qX-iIfG6gIVSZyzCh2uXQnNEAQYBCABEgJur_D_BwE

Here is a link to mizuno 919 hot metal pros.. they are not pro irons it simply means they are a tad less offset and a touch smaller then the original hot metal mizuno irons... they are so so amazing.. soo soft soo forgiving... and long.. way better then the rogue x i know this for a fact... not to mention your know they are legit... only thing is you might need a 4 irons or hybrid as its only 5 to pw... the site also has a code for 10% off.. not bad at all.

I've pretty much already made up my mind on these clubs and also already purchased them so I was mainly just wanting to see if they looked legitimate to people and if the price I paid was a solid deal

The cup 360 label should be white. Yours is black.

The Callaway name in the cavity should be surrounded by curved highlights. Not present on yours.

Damn I see what you mean, was going to say it could be poor camera quality for the 360 cup font but the stripes are clearly not there behind "Callaway" :/

I’ve seen a lot of fakes. The current crop of China-sourced copies use direct copies of the actual club head mold, since its sourced from a computer file. The tip-off’s are typically small finish variations, just like those on your images. The grips were switched because they are/were obviously not OEM’s.

The problems with this type of club are three -

The material used for casting isn’t the same as an actual club. Its weight, and centers of gravity and rotation won’t be correct.

The heads won’t have the correct weight, and they won’t be weight sorted. Your swing weights will likely be wrong, and inconsistent across the set.

The worst aspect, likely by far, is that the shafts are also fake. The materials in this type of shaft is grossly different, cheaper, uneven flex, different weight, weight distribution, ...

I wouldn’t personally buy these.

Is that 100% true? Reading what Jeff said seems a little daunting to be honest especially since the differences he pointed out seem to be apparent on my clubs as opposed to a new set.

If they are real what would explain those differences in the stripes/font color?

If they're counterfeit I'll just 100% return them to the seller and buy them brand new just to be safe.

Take a very good/clear close up picture and send it to Callaway and ask them.

Callaway Gold has a preowned website where all equipment is guaranteed authentic. They usually have some sort of sale going on at roughly 25% off. They offer pretty good prices even before their sale price. The equipment is always in better shape than stated and they offer a returned policy. If you have not bought yet I would at least check them out. Good luck whatever you do!

Do you know why some have the stripes/white font and those/mine have no stripes/black font? I figured they'd all have the same design since its the same line of clubs.

Yeah I'm completely confused. After looking online there are sets of Rogue X Irons, brand new from reputable sellers like Golf Galaxy, Dick's etc. that have no stripes behind Callaway and the 360 cup font color is black (for instance the irons + hybrid set on Golf Galaxy) so I have no clue why some have stripes/white text and others have no stripes/black text.

First 30 seconds of this video also shows one of the more popular PGA Youtubers testing the clubs and there are no stripes/black text on his clubs:

Pretty sure these clubs I bought are the 2018 version, a quick search of 2018 Rogue X Irons brings up a lot of reviews/videos of the clubs and all have no stripes/black text.

If that's the case, is there any difference between the 2018 and 2019/2020 clubs, and is there any reason someone regripped these so soon or could it have just been personal preference?

How do they compare in terms of forgiveness to AP2’a? More or less forgiving?

My bad. I didn't read the post you quoted and thought you were referring to the Rogues that were the subject of the thread.

Being you're talking about 919 Hot Metal Pros, change my answer to "Hot Metals would be considerably more forgiving than the AP2s, HM PROS would be somewhat less forgiving than the regular HMs"

Sorry about that.

The seller may have re gripped them or the original owner bought them custom and had these grips put on from start. The clubs look no more then a few rounds used it seems maybe? Id say play a round with them any you will know right away if they are fakes... if true file a complain to return them with where you bought them from.
