Best wedge grind and bounce for diggers?

mufasis

I’m playing to like a 5 handicap at the moment. My ball striking is great but I can sometimes get steep and dig especially on softer conditions. Just curious what all the scratch guys are playing that tend to dig, thanks!

My favorite wedge in my bag is my 58 degree k grind with a wide sole... 14 degrees of bounce.

its been great around the greens for me. I don’t hit it more than 40 yards, though.

I tried the k grind in 60 but I feel like it has too much bounce in the sense that when you open the face up the leading edge comes way off the ground. I was looking at the D grind though as it still has bounce but it has some for and heel relief. The k grind was so good out of the bunker though...

Went RTX 56 Full and it's great on chips and full shots.  Still getting used to it out of the sand.   Ironically, swapped out 60 Full for a MD5 60-8C and really like having the options on tight lies which we have alot of in dry Northern California

Low cap here who gets steep and can dig. You need the Callaway X Grind. It's more versatile to me than the K. It's a narrow sole but high bounce and the low point is near the front so the edge sits low

I remember reading a thread on here years ago where the recommendation was to NOT open the face on a K grind, but to move the hands back to add loft.  The bounce and sole width make opening the face unnecessary.

Moving the hands back or leaning the shaft away from the target, will add effective bounce

Ping's wide soles would be really good. If you want to add versatility, you can do a heel grind, or lob combo grind for even more. I love the lob combo grind on my lob wedge, and I'm really not much of a digger anymore.  But the sole is very forgiving when it's soggy, and just versatile enough to usually pull off open face shots and deal with somewhat tight lies.

Just wanted to update everyone. I went with vokey sm8 52.12f/56.14f/60.04L with px 6.5 shafts. I went with high bounce in the 52 and 56 because I usually am making more full shots with those clubs and I wanted a low bounce in the 60 cause with my short game around the greens my aoa is usually shallow. Thanks for input guys!

I am a digger and use a 58°/11° K grind, but also carry a 62°/8° T grind for shots I have to open the face for. K grind is awesome, probably my favorite wedge at the moment. The wedges are vokey sm5.

How do you like the L grind on the 60? I find myself in a similar boat to you.

Also, did you try out various grinds before purchasing?

Clubs haven’t come yet but I know they’re going to be sweet. I usually would go with something more usable with an open face for the 56 but the better I’ve become I realize simpler easier shots work best inside 120, which for me is usually setting up ball a bit back in my stance, open my stance a little bit hitting straighter lower high spinning wedges. The 60 is the only club I get fancy with around the greens which is why I went with the low bounce L.
