Why anyone would pay this guy for a lesson is beyond me.

Seen it a lot.... worse player pays better player for range or on course lessons, usually a chop who needs lots of help.  My friend used to teach anyone in the area and he was a horrible teacher but very charismatic and fun to play with...

At this point he's bascially just exposing himself. As you can see now he's gone so far as to sell people his own juvenile "aha moment" as if they're actually lessons. How does he live with himself is beyond me.

I suspect he's not really a black belt as well. He'd probable get choked out by anyone with a fundamental knowledge of BJ. But I digress. Cheers mate!

I supported Christo for a long time but he is becoming pitiful. He has always been so inside and stuck and flippy and behind with zero rotation that when he has this “a-ha” OTT moment he is just describing something that helps him square the club face given his poor fundamentals. He is on a journey, a regular journey like any other golf fanatic that can hit the ball pretty well generally but is not and never will be a top flight player. So leave it at that. OTT is merely a feeling to get people on plane. The best players of all time generally have a pretty square path and face to path and they learned their motion when very young, naturally - swinging heavy clubs as a kid forces you to use your legs. Christo has terrible leg work. I am confident he took up the game after the age of 16.  Christo is proof how hard fighting natural tendencies are. He is a nice guy but not super in touch with what makes a golf swing work. He thinks he is and that’s fine. He has chosen to market himself. Buyer beware. For the record his “OTT” philosophy is a feeling for him and an improvement. He still extends early and is behind, just not as bad. His game would absolutely not hold up under pressure, he thinks too much. I’d guess he is a legit 5-7 index and that’s about it. Not to mention short game and putting which is a mystery. He’s just a guy with a channel, which is fine. I object to the appropriation of the Hogan mystique that part does make him a poser.

His short game has always been poor.

He is so flippy and always helping the ball up with his chipping

Why don't you contact the Hogan estate and inform them of this travesty? Seriously, if it bothers you that much. They might not know.

That’s the unfortunate thing. He is endorsed by the Ben Hogan equipment company. Which is poor judgment on their part and in my opinion has sent the company further into the periphery for the increased perception the name (and quality of equipment) is in bad hands.

This is regressing badly. His high handicap followers are unlikely to have the golf smarts to recover from a narrow and high backswing. It’s the opposite of someone like Jack who went high through width and letting the right elbow separate.

So that's where Christo got his OTT swing! It also looks like where Kirk Junge and Todd Graves got their single-plane swings! Think I'll keep watching Jim McLean videos on YT!

I don't venture to these parts much so am late to this thread.

Over the years I've stumbled across a few MSE videos and each one has set off my Bullsh!tometer and has left me with a sense of unease. They're always a combination of clickbait titles,  underwhelming content and long sales pitches. The classic, "I can't believe I wasted time just watching that."

I've never given it much thought but appreciate the OP taking the time to dig into the MSE product in more detail. Many of the observations chime with exactly what I was thinking and feeling after sitting through one of his videos.

I don't know enough about the swing to say how close MSE is or isn't to Hogan's swing, but if you start selling products claiming you have cracked the Hogan "code", you damn well better be able to back it up.

Con artist is exactly the term that springs to mind.

let's play the game, setup or impact?

claiming every pro is doing his ott miracle informercial swing is so cringey. yea obviously they're not dumping it under, but he's making it sound so revolutionary and putting a brand on an obvious move that every decent modern teacher has been coaching for a good while now is disingenuous. but given his 2000's style informercial feel to his videos, he might have been stuck in the past for a while. and actually while his swing is more neutral, his face control is going to be poor. he's still flippy and lacks any rotation. so it's like all he did was shift his dumped under swing left. so it's not really what good modern teachers are coaching, it's worse because it's not a proper shallow. the only benefit is good shots will appear straighter because you don't have to hit a hook to get it on target, but the dispersion will be the same.
