Thinking about a scooter. I know, right?

When I first saw one of these a few years ago, I laughed. And now here I am thinking about it and it's kinda funny.

The club only has 2 working carts currently, so a cart isn't always available. I can store my own cart, but a running cart is at least $2500 around here. These go for about $3500 online, about $1500 on Craigslist, or $700 delivered from Alibaba. I might only be a member at this club next year, so spending the coin on a cart is tough. But at this price, I could resell it and likely break even.

I usually play solo, so it actually makes sense in a lot of ways. I can get a cart if the wife is joining. But this is electric vs gas. There seems to be an interesting division between walkers and cart folk, so I figured I would share.

I know, I'm likely crazy. 🤣

I've never ridden a Segway, that seems cool.

I won't get it until Spring if I do at all. But my goal is 100 rounds next year and a cart is $6. So it's almost cheaper than the rental cost for all those rounds.

I used a Segway with a golf bag attachment when I lived in Japan and it was fantastic. Great fun. I'd use one every time if I could now.

That would be a blast on a golf course.

I've ridden them before but only for tours around towns and that was fun enough. It's amazing how quickly riding one gets to feel so natural and intuitive.

Yep. They had a 15 minute orientation and practice run for first time riders to make sure people didn't drive off a cliff and kill themselves like the inventor did.

It was, without any doubt, the most convenient, efficient, timely and fun way to get around a golf course. It was a blast.

The Segway has been discontinued and replaced with this.  This would look really weird on the golf course.

Looking at the size of those wheels, it would be stuck on the fairway of 2. The course is soaked right now and it took 3 tries to get up to the tee box of 4.

As a lifelong skateboarder, that would be cake. I just don't think it would handle the terrain during the wet season.

I would rather not walk because it's my least favorite part of golf. 🤣

But seriously, I can play more, faster. That's pretty much the main reason. The time between shots is greatly reduced when motorized. I can play 3 balls and take my time with each shot and still play ahead of a solo walker, I do it all the time.

Playing 3 balls is harder walking, too. I have a hard enough time tracking and finding my ball with a cart, I'd lose twice as many walking.

<Edit> As far as hauling, it would fit in my truck as easy as a motorcycle and I can store it at the club. The battery is swappable, so I can pull it and change the battery at home if I can't change it there.

Did anybody watch "The Match" with Steph Curry? I would say he is in much better physical shape than I am, yet he seemed to enjoy riding a cart vs walking. Just saying.

They make some human powered pedal bikes that carry golf clubs as well.  https://www.rockbottomgolf.com/bags-carts/push-pull-carts/the-golf-bike/?utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=19THEGOLFBIKE111111GRN01&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_qD_BRDiARIsANjZ2LCsBH-Gx4bqWNfNuPbuu-b_OkiSGwwJKaIIMThQ9_xpWE0xWdsaBmUaArfbEALw_wcB

Though I will tell you if a course I played offered the Segway that @Soloman1 posted I'd probably walk a lot less 🙂

I also like the first bike you posted @lefthack--- looks like fun. If your objective is to get around the course quickly that seems like a good option.

Faster for sure, especially considering how slow the cart I use now is. The back bumper is tied to the bag holder so it won't fall off. I will take a pic of my chariot today to showcase her awesomeness. 🤣

Just one of the many advantages of this courses location. It's ghetto and I love it.

Today was a perfect example of why I need my own wheels. The one functional cart is out of gas on 8 and no idea where the convertible is.

I hope they get it running for my round tomorrow. It's the only other dry day this week.

They have a website, but it's very dated. It's fun and it was $700 for the year.

I often have the place to myself. Or maybe a few folks. You can fit about a dozen cars in the parking lot, but I've never seen more than 8.

While the course isn't anything special, it is in an amazing area. Next to a river in a valley surrounded by wooded mountains. It was built for the loggers in the area in the 1920's. There are a bunch of these courses that the loggers used as a sort of league and played against other local clubs.

Not sure what level courses y'all play for $13 a round ($9 during the week). Or maybe you only play courses that are tough to get on or take 5 hour rounds.

But the reality is it's a series of tee boxes with a green and a cup downrange. What more do you need? 🤣

How much do you walk now? I find it much easier to find balls when walking than in a cart. The spatial perception is better walking and its easier to travel directly to the ball.

I walked yesterday because I had to. I did find 2 balls yesterday, one is likely mine from another day, but still.

My dispersion is pretty big still. Like one on the left rough, one on the right, and one on the green.

Playing 3 balls, at least 1 of my shots go in the intended director. Sometimes all three. But sometimes all three go in the river, so there is that.

A cart covers more ground. I can collect (or play) all 3 shots before I could walk to the first.

And losing balls is just something I have accepted. I spent $.42/ball for these Taylormade Project A's. If I lose 4 per round, so be it.

I have found at least 5 of my own in the last week, so that's good.

I generally carry but if I'm tired I rent a two wheel version.  Much better than a cart. Surprised it did not catch on as well at my course. They used to have 8 of them but now it might be only 4.

I looked at buying one. There is a local course that's unwalkable. The distances between greens and tees is unmanageable as a walker, and you get caught too fast by those in carts.

I can't wait to see how you like it.

not sure if youve done it yet or not but its probably a good idea to check with the course that you can bring it before you pull the trigger. more and more courses are steering clear of allowing personal carts in general because of liability exposure and ive heard from a few buddies that clubs that do allow personal carts wont allow the bikes

Interesting, I will make sure. I don't think I will get one until Spring, so I have time.

I'm pretty sure it will be fine. As a member I am allowed a personal cart (see the post above about the cart situation), so I would be shocked if I couldn't bring this thing. This isn't instead of a club cart but in place of one.

Personal injury and liability are top concerns.  We had some guys that wanted to lease us some of the Segway ones.  All it would take is one incident where someone got hurt and it would be a mess.  A quick and hard pass.
