Some friends and I have a group trip coming up to Northern MI and will be playing one of our rounds at Belvedere GC. This will be the first time anyone in our group has played the course and we have gotten conflicting reports on the alcohol policy there. I am aware that the course does not sell alcohol whatsoever; but their stance on byob is really my biggest question. I have heard that it is not allowed at all; I’ve heard that it is allowed; and I’ve heard it is allowed but only on the back 9 because that land is in a different county. Any clarity here would be appreciated. We are not the type of people who need booze to enjoy a round, especially at a highly touted course like Belvedere; however if byob is allowed I’m sure some in our group would like to partake.

Pick up the phone, call the general manager and ask?  Don’t trust the word of the lower staff level workers because those answers will probably start “I think..”

Is anybody thinking about playing in any GAM qualifiers/events or USGA qualifiers this year? The Michigan Am is at Oakland Hills North, so I'm probably going to give that a shot, and I always play in the Mid Am up at the Highlands. Depending on how I'm playing early in the year, I might also sign up to give US Mid Am qualifying a shot.

I'm so disappointed in the courses GAM chooses for their qualifiers. Nothing great...

I'm still mad at myself that I forgot to sign up for a qualifier that they had at Franklin Hills a few years ago. By the time I remembered, it had filled up.

This could be the first year ever that I play in January and February, but not March.

We're going to NC for spring break the 25-31st, so if I can't get a round in between now and the 24th it could very well happen.

This is also the first year I could potentially play every single month of the season, as February rounds are generally so hard to come by.

Same here. I don't think I will get out in March in Michigan.

this is the longest break I've had from playing a round of golf in years. I last played on a windy day in late October. I missed out on the warm days in early November, because I was in New Orleans, and I haven't traveled anywhere warm over the winter. It stinks that the course where I used to go on playable days during the winter seems to have stopped allowing play during the offseason, and I assume that with even fewer options, the few courses that are actually open are even more jam-packed

Same. My last round is 10.24.22.  I'm READY.

Got 9 in today at Rackham. I don't think I've played there since maybe 2008. There were alot of temporary tees, which made it play really short, but that gave me an opportunity to use my new 5 wood (Stealth +). That thing is awesome. Launches high and doesn't spin too much.

Might play another 9 there tomorrow evening while my son is at rock climbing.

Haven't traveled since kids to play during winter months.  I played in a 4man tough man end of October and finally are set for 18 Sunday.  It can't show up fast enough.

Man it’s getting warm I’ve been playing on my simulator all winter and in a simulator league. My driver swings better than ever. Going for a driver fitting at Carls with Ryan Johnson. It’s gonna be my second full season golfing hoping to shave off a lot of strokes off my first hcp or 22.2. Let’s go SPRING!!!

Ryan Johnson is the man. Love working with him on fittings, and I've been able to have him as a teammate in a 4 man scramble. I'm pretty sure I could have stayed in the cart the whole day.

I haven’t been on here in a long time, but might make more of an effort going forward.

I’ve snuck out to my ‘home course’ in SW mich for 9 holes twice this month. I know a guy who has 3 trackman and gives lessons on them so I’ve hit balls 2 or 3 other times over there.

I’m sure I’m playing more golf now than I will in the summer with work and a 5 month old, but we will see.

Yup kids will do that to ya.  I am 42 and have kids ages 14, 11 and 3 🙂  I remember the days prior to kids where I would play 150 rounds a summer no problem.  Im a teacher so I got plenty of time in the summer and then my little rascals came along. Never a dull moment with kids and my only advice is if you can survive the first 3 years once they get to 4 things start to get easier or at least they did for me.  I was just never a young kid guy so hand in there and things to get easier but the early years remind me of trying to hit out of the rough and carry a 200 yard hazard 🙂

Guys are showing up on this ATMG forum like it was 2010 🙂  I took a 2-3 year break about 6-7 years ago.

What ever happened to Openwater.  That guy was super cool and had alot of great knowledge of some of the best courses in Michigan.  Have not seen anything from him in a long time and hope he is doing well as he was a super nice guy.  Crazy how fast 10-15 years goes

I'm pretty sure he's still a member at Lochenheath. I haven't reached out to him in awhile though so idk what's changed in these last couple crazy years.

No kidding. The 9 holes will keep your game sharp, but I do get overly spoiled and have a tough time going anywhere else to play. First world problems though.

No need to worry about the rust Matt. It’s not going anywhere unfortunately.

So I starting playing the year my daughter was born.

First no offense but baby would rather have momma.
Second you say you work?! Well so do most with kids. What u do is find a league/course somewhere not crazy far away. Typically in between work and home. Even if it’s the longer way home. “Can’t always be perfect!”

Thrid have a Conversation with the old lady. Tell her “I know it’s not always easiest taking care of our child alone, but if I could play in this league just once aweek I won’t be trying to get out every weekend! And honey it’s only on THIS DAY, there’s no maybe this day or that, so we could just put in on the schedule, and treat it like OVERTIME at work!”

Forth and Final,(from me) I’d throw in like yea I know the guys are always going out but I’d you give me this league day. I won’t feel like I HAVE to go with the BOYZ every weekend! Instead I have told the boyz. I can only go out every few Saturdays or Sundays. And really if there just playing home course, I’m out.
I’m not sure if this will work for you or if you even need the advice. Honestly having a new born is a amazing thing so your gonna want to be around a lot more anyway. But league one day a week and 18 every other weekend I want asking for much. I remember my daughter was 6 months old when my Dad took me out to play for the first time. And I was so hooked instantly. And when I went to the golf store to buy my  OWN golf clubs. It was over I was full blown ADDICTED! My wife is amazing so I can just tell her I’m going to play. But I also go around my daughters schedule. Early mornings work for me cause my daughter is a lite sleeper. I can get 18 in and get back home and she would have just ate breakfast and getting going for the day. Or I’d go an hour before her nap. Again get home right when she’s waking up. Anyway enjoy the baby and keep playing!

I heard on 97.1 the ticket this morning, Tigers Opening Day is only 14 days away! to me that’s saying golf it’s just around the corner!! Let’s go

Also I didn’t get the Driver fitting with Ryan today. My wife and I are Army Veterans, and she’s been working on raising her VA DISABILITY. So when an earlier appointment popped up, she took it. So now I have to wait till next Thursday. Kinda sucked cause this morning I thought I was still going. Around noon my bubble was popped.

I just need to get fit while I’m swinging this good
