‘61 Tommy Armour VFQ

These popped up for sale recently and I couldn’t think of a reason why I shouldn’t own them.  Always been fond of this style club face and they seem to be in generally good shape.  The pro-pel stiff shafts were a nice addition and most of the shaft labels are in perfect shape.  Oh, and the original leather grips look great.

I love those irons ! I found a partial set at Goodwill and like them so much that I bought a full set from someone here on Golfwrx.  I was just hitting them in my net for fun last night.  Unique looking and user friendly.  Yours seem to be in great shape.

Here it is. Leather grip, but missing the end cap. Otherwise pretty solid club. MacGregor Pro-Pro firm shaft.

I'm not sure where you are located, but I am sure we can work something out.

Those wedges will spin the snot out of a ball especially balata. The sole makes it very versitile for a variety of lies. I played a DS FC-4000 for years. A friend of mine had one like yours and I could spin the crap out of it.

No not any more unless you submit the club for testing by the USGA but I think they banned punch dot faces a few years back. I still have a hickory shafted dot faced Wilson JW and I can spin it with even a modern ball like a Q Star. I think my JW was made in the late 30s

Eff the USGA- I understand sanctions on newly introduced items but banning previously legal stuff only encourages consumerism

That is my sentiment exactly--- I have argued this for years that clubs like those were USGA legal on the date of manufacture. The USGA never heard of Grandfather clauses. That and the anchoring ban were the reasons I dropped my 20 year plus membership. I did not anchor but saw the benefits of others using the method. If you go back and read some of my past posts you will see I am probably one of the biggest USGA detractors on WRX. I started the little tongue in cheek thing over on the Club House Grill Section of WRX called the Outlaw Golf Association ( OGA) That is why you will see some guys with OGA membership numbers posted in their signature

OGA Rules ( very few)

 

1- Play what equipment you choose

2- Screw the USGA

3 - Play whatever rules you want to

4- Main Rule Have FUN playing how ever you want to

Like I said an informal thing no membership fees and really no organization just a thing

And if arm lock isnt anchoring then I will kiss your you know what on the square in Miami and give you an hour to draw a crowd. And I have absolutely no problem with someone anchoring either on the arm or chest. I got paired with a guy one day with a Ski Pole. He was sensitive about it. I told him it did not matter to me if he stuck it up his wazoo and putted with it that the 1st tee was over there. I had some problems back around 08 or so with undetected high BP and it gave me some funky hand twitches so I putted with a broomstick for about a year until I got straightened out health wise. Yep when the USGA did the anchoring ban thing a lot of the older retirees were going to give up the game period. 99% of the courses here made a "local rule or comittee rule" to disregard the anchor ban in league play which is legal according to the USGA rules themselves

I see it improving with Michael Wahn formerly the LPGA comissioner at the helm. The USGA has lost a lot of members in the past few years and had lost a lot of credibility too. I think by getting rid of Mike Davis thay are going in the direction of righting the ship so to speak. Like I have said before the average weekend warrior or recreational golfer plays what rules they want to and could care less about the USGA or the R&A or even the PGA for that matter.

On that first sentence I am adopting a wait and see attitude. But really in a nutshell I am going to play what equipment I want to and could care less what equipment someone else plays. Like I said in a previous post I am probably one of the biggest detractors of the USGA on WRX or any other board

In addition to all of the above, if you are playing a competitive event short of say, a USGA sanctioned major (USAm, Mid Am, etc.) no one is going to care or even ask. I play in quite a few tournaments on the local level,and it’s a nonissue. I suppose someone using a broomstick might get a glance, but Langer uses one and just doesn’t anchor it, so nothing to see there either. The only comment you would get bagging those VFQs would be “cool”!
