Sand Valley?

BEND OF THE RIVER GC

Recommended Posts

Got a Wisconsin Golf magazine last week that comes with my WSGA membership.   Anyway it sounds like they want to build the largest putting course in the world out there, just a mere 8 acres 🙃

Ive been lucky to go to Sand Valley a few times in early May and have never had an issue with weather.  Will the weather be perfect?  Probably not but it will be just fine and the courses always play firm and fast.  I would not hesitate to book a trip in May.....worst case is you cancel and they will give you resort credit even if its at the last minute....they know how to treat customers at SV

I played in early May two seasons ago and it was actually in really good shape.  The place drains as well as anywhere I've ever played before.   It's nice getting a break on the rates as well.

Obviously the weather is a crapshoot, but how do we feel about Sand Valley early early May. Is the course in decent condition that early in the season?

I went in May for my only trip there, and it was fine. It was pretty chilly in the 40s or 50s but otherwise fine weather for walking and carrying. The only hesitation I have with spring Midwest trips is that dependent upon winter and spring weather, greens can be slow to come in and might be a bit rough. But I think it's a destination worth overlooking that for.

One of the best golf trips I have ever had was a May trip to Sand Valley. I'd say I lucked out, 70 degrees, sunny no wind. Not the norm, but good days do happen.

My wife and I are booked for SV/MD, Erin Hills, and Whistling Straits later this summer for my 50th birthday. 6 rounds, a lot of driving, it's going to be a marathon. But absolutely cannot wait.

Have early May ‘24 booked and I would appreciate some pics of the courses to get an idea of what they may look like? I know it can vary but if someone is headed there in a couple weeks give us a report please.

Thanks!

This is how it looked May 7th, 2020 on about a 55°F day.

Pics from jcook look about right from when I was there in early May 2021.   They don't open until May so the course has had a fighting chance to emerge from the winter.   Only thing you need to cross your fingers for is decent weather.   By that time it can still be cool but generally not uncomfortable since you are walking and you can dress for it.

Thanks for the pics they look good. Cooler weather would be fine, I’ll get to use some of the gear I used in Bandon. That last pic looked like the weather I had on Trails in February, a crisp 50 degrees with blue sky.

I went in May once and had some of the most perfect couple days of golf I've ever had. 70, sunny, no wind. I've played all over the place, but consider those 2 days 2 of the best days of my golf life 😂

You can luck out and have really good weather.

I’m heading to Sand Valley with 7 of my buddies. 36 on Friday at Sand Valley and Mammouth Dunes, Sand Valley again on Saturday, and Eryn Hills on Sunday. Can’t wait!

For restaurants, anyone have recommendations?

The food at Sand Valley is awesome. I have heard the food at Erin is good in the restaurant but we only ate in the pub when we were there and it was just ok.

Report back if you can please. Did you get on the Lido ?

Lido isnt open yet. Just played SV, Mammoth, Sandbox - loved them all. What an amazing experience - everything is just done well. Caddies, rooms, food, service, etc - everything is just well thought out and no detail is missed. Very good experience and I look forward to coming back.

Good to hear, how were the course conditions for just opening up? I thought that might happen with the Lido. Sedge Valley is supposed to be open next year but I’m worried it might not be ready for the start of the season when I’m going.
