Ping PLD Custom Program

Going to get a BGT Tour tossed onto my PLD. Since I had no shaft options with the neck going this route. 

 

Will see how it works out for me, also think I'll be swapping grips, the PP58 Mid Cord is nice but my hands are just massive and need something a hair thicker in them to settle in the same spot.

One of the first things I did was changed the PP58 Mid  (+6 wraps) when I received my PLD. Even with the extra wraps just never felt comfortable.

 

Interested in how the shaft change works out.

I went with a new PP58 Large grip they had on site for the tour guys - added extra wraps to it as well. Might be worth shooting your fitter an email if you want to look at it. I am going to run with that for a while once I get my PLD. Waiting sucks, lol.

I'm a big fan of the PP58 Cord Midsize for my hands, but honestly have been loving the Super Stroke "Off The Truck" 2.0 PT. Essentially the same shape as the PP58 midsize, maybe a little different in the taper/pistol, but super close. I putted with a softer, almost "matador" style scotty custom shop grip for years on my old Golo, and this definitely has that feel. I may make the swap back to a PP58 Cord when it gets more humid in TN, but for now!

I just went with a Garsen Quad Pistol TPE, basically bang on weight difference and a hair thicker so sits nicer. 

 

Shaft I'll update once it dries.

Oh and for anyone curious a Ping 4 neck is .390 not .370. Good thing my buddy had extra tips.

Strange, Ping told me my 4 neck was .355.

Also what finish did you get on yours? I like the look of it.

It's a flaired bottom on the post, the .370 was way too snug, even a few .390 were snug. 

 

Mine is a glazed donut finish.

I went with an Edel round grip and absolutely love it. I never feel “stuck” to one position.

Current setup on the PLD. Still hasn't touched grass but probably 2k putts off it to this point. 

 

Stock shaft gone, BGT Tour Black on, PP58 Mid Cord gone,  Garsen Quad TPE on. 

 

After cutting ended up just a hair short but nothing awful. Already rolled 50-100 putts with this setup.

Thanks for following up! It sounds like it’s pretty stout (e.g. similar to original stability shaft) from the limited reviews I’ve seen/read. I know it’s subjective, but would you agree?

Did ya ever consider going the PLD composite route, or try it out while you were out there?

I like mine quite a bit.

Not available for the 4 neck. At my fitting when doing the build my fitter said right away "sadly can't do graphite shafts, wish we could, maybe soon" when telling me shaft options. 

 

If I had a plumbers neck or 3 neck I'd 100% go with the Ping graphite shaft. 

 

The BGT didn't cost me much so no worries. Cheaper than a LAGP by a mile.

i'm sure you'll stay in touch with them, but if and when they figure out how to do that shaft, I'm sure they'd upgrade you.

I’m thinking about putting a ping man grip on my anser PLD. There’s a big difference in weight between the stock grip and the ping man. 
 

would anyone know if that would make much of a difference to the feel of the putter?

Kinda personal, but for sure it would affect swingweight if the difference is enough

Your glazed doughnut finish is exceptionally lighter than mine. I like yours way more.

Yes. Will make it feel much heavier. That's what.. a 25 gram difference? You might have to put some lead tape under the grip to avoid a massive change.

If you mean feel of the ball coming off the face: then no. No change.

Yeah it's definitely on the lighter side, I might have wanted a darker finish but it looks fine honestly.

 

If I ever get it refinished then can decide after.

It's exceptionally stout. More than any other shaft i've ever tried out (although I haven't personally putted with a LAGP, Fuji MC Xstiff, OG Stability, etc.). In saying this, i'll follow up and say that it's unbelievably great. Love the feedback and very easy to feel the weight of my putter head - which for me, yields a stable stroke.

Talking about shafts, I'm gaming my Ping PLD with a LAGP SOHO. This setup with the P2 grip has been the ongoing setup for awhile now, best putter I have ever owned.

You have the anser 4 neck? What SOHO do you have in it? Ping told me mine was .355 but you're the second one with the Anser 4 neck to have a SOHO that works.

I have the Kushin 4. In typical Ping fashion, i think the shaft tip diameter Ping uses might be some random diameter, but the 0.390 soho works fine. The 0.370 soho definitely does not work.

It will be if you buy a .370 shaft/tip for a 4 neck.

On a patina finish is there any color paint-fill other than white that people think looks good? A little nervous to try anything other than white.

Also was wondering if anyone has had a custom milling not clearly offered in the process. I’d like a smooth face feel but like the look of a least a face scratching. The shallow mill they offer doesn’t suit my eye as much.

Paint fill is personal preference but easy to change at home.

 

As for face milling see mine a few replies up on this page, it's a 0.002" depth milling. Basically smooth face feel, with a scratch pattern for looks.

Just picked this one up…random question has anyone attempted to send in a PLD for some changes that your weren’t the original owner of? Debating about adding in a top line but curious how that would work.
